ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 361: It Was Only a One Time Friendship Part 1

In a nutshell, evolution is a process that occurs on the inside. I’m not saying here that it is only that, there are other factors as well, but in a huge nutshell, that’s about it. It is a process of adapting to the ever so changing world that influences one’s outside, but it starts on the inside.

The dinosaur skin that was full of scars, wounds and scratch marks starts to crack and eventually falls to the ground like scrambles of the egg’s shell. Of course, what was underneath the wounded skin was not some sort of a beautiful appearance, but it was rather something more appropriate to the situation…… It was a skin dyed in deep crimson, with a thick web of veins going all over its body, looking as though both blood and heat were oozing out of those veins.

「Oh. Ohh. Ooohhh……」

I see, I see…… Wait, doesn’t that mean that this monster is going to become even more dangerous than it previously was? And why am I getting some Golden Crystal Scorpion vibes from it, too? I mean they are two different species, but the way in which it transformed now seems to be really similar. Or is it really an evolution at work here? I also get a feeling that this here monster should no longer be considered as rare and jump straight into the territory of Unique Monsters.

「H-Hey, Sanraku……?」

「Wait, lower your weapons, all of you. Just…… leave this one to me, alright Tottori……?」

「Are you really sure that you are going to be fine……!?」

No, I don’t this is going to be any kind of fine. That is why it will be better to just leave Emul here, just to be on the safe side.

More roaring sounds start to be heard. The muscles of the original tri-headed Tyranno are starting to grow and swell tremendously, making its body even bigger than it was before. Its left head, the one that seemed to have been brutalized the most, had a nasty scar running all over it, and it was grotesquely asymmetrical and deformed. At the same time, this was only adding to its feeling of intimidation here.

「「「GORORORORORORORORORORORO……!!!」」」

「Hello! Umm…… What’s this? Wanted to give a change of clothes a go now, did you?」

I mean, does that mean that we still get to receive the EXP for slaying the tri-headed Tyranno, or maybe we don’t? I mean, well, it’s true that if we were to debate who contributed the most damage to this raid battle, it would have definitely be the tri-headed Tyranno, but does that mean it received EXP too!? Besides, this sudden change is way too drastic, no matter how you look at it! Whoa! Its bringing its faces closer to me! Hot…… Wait, so hot, it starts to burn!

「P-Please try to calm down, Big Bro…… We were having a moment not so long ago, remember? We have formed a bond of friendship, right! This certainly has to amount to at least something!」

While the former tri-headed Tyranno approached me, hot breaths (in the literal sense) were leaking out of its mouths. Normally it would have been no problem, but this thing had three mouths and six nostrils total. Right now, I was feeling like a wet piece of clothing being dried inside of an electric dryer.

At the current moment, my HP sits at the value of one, so one wrong move here might spell the end of me and my doom. One wrong move…… and I’m dead!

「「「GURURURURURURURU……」」」

「Whoa, whoa there……! WE. ARE. FRIENDS. YOU. AND. I. FRIENDSHIP. REALLY. IMPORTANT. SEE?」

For a moment out there, all six eyeballs were looking directly at me, blinking really fast. It was a weird thing to witness, especially since its eyelids were moving on the vertical axis, a thing characteristic of reptiles only. After a brief moment filled with both tension and silence, the three heads take their distance from me and take a deep breath. I knew it! I’m going to be burned into a crisp here, aren’t I!?

「「「GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!」」」

It lets out a might roar out of all of its three heads! Was that supposed to be a declaration? Something alongside the lines of: I am the king of this forest!? At least that’s how it sounded in my ears, but I might as well be mistaken here.

This here loud, long and majestic roar permeates the air for some time, and then it just starts to die down and eventually disappears. The former tri-headed Tyranno looks at me with all of its six eyes. There was a clear intention in those eyes of his, and it was something entirely different from the light that shone inside of the Great Red Devourer’s eyes. I could not understand the exact meaning behind that roar just now or this gaze, but something in my gut was telling me that I actually knew what this was all about.

The two of us are not friends. We are not even buddies here. There is no need to get emotional here, because this cooperation we had here was purely beneficial for the both of us, but that’s that. Next time that we shall meet one another, it will be solely as enemies. There is no doubt in my mind about that. But that is also why this joint battle, this joint effort here was so precious to me, so irreplaceable. It may have been for a very short while, but the two of us were looking in the same direction, with the same goal in mind. Nothing is ever going to change that.

「I guess it’s a farewell for now, but we will surely meet again. Look forward to it.」

So I guess that we are safe for now. Enemies we may be, but for the time being both humans and monsters were allowed to have that moment of respite, so that we could bask in the afterglow of our grand victory. And I mean, both for the tri-headed Tyranno and for me this here should be quite the accomplishment, so why I don’t feel happier about it? Oh yeah, actually…… how long did that fight take us? I mean, it does not look like the dawn is here quite yet.

Also, as a sort of a parting gift, I decided to throw the very last bottle of “Mystic Soma” that I had on me right into the tri-headed Tyranno’s mouth. And since it was a monster, and one that was so huge like that, I think that it will be okay even if it swallows the glass bottle up. It should be able to digest it just fine.

After casting me one last glance, the former tri-headed Tyranno turns around and starts walking away from here. As it was walking away, I could see something fall from its body and slowly rolling towards my feet. As it turns out, it was a scale, and it was almost as huge as an oyster shell. If a thing like that was to spontaneously fall from its body and hit me to the head now, I would have been dead from it for sure. Ah…… Could it be that it was actually what this bastard……? No, calm down. I’m sure that this is actually nothing else but a coincidence.
