ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 362: Vice Is a Poison That Is As Sweet As a Honey Part 1

Kuh, sometimes there is a whole lot more to a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors than mere luck. Should I pretend to go with one thing here, only to change it at the last possible moment?

What I recommend here is to start with paper. It’s the most universal of gestures in this game, and if you want to move onto the scissors from it, all you need to do is to simply subtract three fingers and you are all set. Then, once you have scissors on yourself, changing into rock is even easier, because the only thing you need to do here is to simply move two fingers. Easy, right?

「Sanraku-kun! Sanraku-kun! Won’t you look at that! Now I can dual wield my long rods! Isn’t that sick as hell!? Or maybe, that’s actually rather dangerous!?」

In the end, the one to win our little Rock-Paper-Scissors match was Deepslaughter, because why wouldn’t she be the winner here? She was the first one to plunge her had into the red crystal sack that was left after the Red Dragon, and the item she managed to obtain from there was a small red jewel called “The Hand of Craving”.

The effect of this item was that apparently it adds one more extra slot for accessory. It is something really useful if you are relying heavily on accessories and their effects.

They also possess one more effect. After equipping it, there is a pair of bright red demonic-like arms growing out of the user’s back. They looked really creepy even when they were perfectly still, but apparently they were connected to the user’s thoughts and you could use them to do all kinds of things as you saw fit. For a physical fighter it would have been an irreplaceable tool.

「Oi, isn’t it dangerous to give a pervert like you more hands? Now even more people are at risk of being assaulted by you.」

「But on the other hand, think of all the possibilities! Now I can play with even more rods and lances than ever before! This is pure bliss!」

Yeah, how about we leave that remark without any comments? Yes, that’s probably for the best here.

Next was Tottori’s turn. The item he managed to pull out from the inside of the blood crystal was a pair of boots with metal ornaments and claws reminiscent of some sort of a predatory bird. Won’t you look at that? Somehow, the items that those two managed to get seemed to have been really compatible with them, to the point that would make you wonder if they were not actually handcrafted with those specific players in mind. Now, I wonder what kind of item I am going to get here……?

「Corpse-Eating Claws – Necro Eater – …… It seems that this item allows you to attack the monsters just as they are about to disappear, and depending on the moment of the attack you might even get different kinds of items.」

「(Hey, that’s actually pretty good, I want that!)」

「What else do we have here…… Hoo, it seems that those metal claws can be used to attach yourself to unstable spaces such as trees and walls without any risk of falling down.」

「(Hey, that’s like suuuper good! Now I want that for myself even more!)」

「Whoa, what’s this!? I feel so light wearing them!」

「Eh? What was that? Did you say something?」

「NOTHING. IT WAS NOTHING. PLEASE MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND DON’T BOTHER WITH LITTLE OLD ME AT ALL.」

It seems that everyone took that as a joke, which is good. However, only Emul started to tremble with fear on top of my head, which means that he was able to feel the murderous intent that was hidden behind my words. But let’s leave it at that, shall we……? In order to get rid of this nasty feeling inside of my chest, I just need to pull out an item that is going to be even better than the ones those two pulled out, right? That should be simple enough.

「Alright! Now gaze upon this……! My Luck stat has reach completely new heights, and you shall witness its full glory……! Now without any further ado, let’s just do this!!!」

Uwaah, the inside of the crystal feels so unnervingly warm…… And that being said, my arm seemed to have sunken rather deeply inside of this thing, huh? At this rate I am going to reach the ground level for sure. …… Huh? What’s this? A fissure? No, it feels more like a hole here? Should I just stick my hand in there and try to pull out anything that is in there?

「Right! Here we go!」

What I was holding in my hand when I pulled it out of the crystal was…… a skull. What’s more, it was a skull of some sort of beast, not a human being. It was huge and really disturbing for some reason…… a dragon skull, perhaps? Anyways, it was certainly belonging to some mysterious carnivorous monster.

「What the hell!? Is that a piece of a corpse!? It is, isn’t it!? Hurry, Sanraku-san! Throw it away!!! Throw it away, I beg of you!!!」

「Ouch, ouch, ouch! Hey, stop it, Emul! Don’t pull my hair like that! I said stop it, god damn it!!!」

Up until now we have been fighting opponents that were a thousand times more frightening than a piece of skeleton like that, so get a hold of yourself, you stupid bunny! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! How can a thing like that scare you shitless, huh?

「At first glance this looks like some sort of a head equipment, wouldn’t you say?」

「…… No, that’s not it. This is an item for sure.」

This must be the same type of item as the Holy Grails that are in my possession. Let’s see, its name is…… “Blood Crown”? What the hell is wrong with that name?

Oh well. It doesn’t really matter all that much. What matters here is the effects that this thing is going to bestow upon me.

BLOODY RED SKELETON CROWN – BLOOD CROWN –
A reward for clearing the raid boss battle: Great Red Devourer. A strange red skull crown that looks similar to the skull of a wild beast.
Its effects activates upon chanting the words: “Blood Heart”. Upon activation, the crown covers the body of the user and bestows upon them the first stage of the “Demi Conversion” effect.
Once the Conversion effect starts, the user is transformed into a red monster for the duration of three hundred seconds, and upon fulfilling other conditions will keep on increasing in power.
Increase of HP/MP. This effect triggers upon killing beings with their respective HP bar, regardless of the fact if those beings are other players, NPC or enemy mobs. Additionally, every single kill in this for improves the overall statistics of the player. However, every thirty seconds an additional effect called “Runaway Judgement” will be triggered. This effect will be triggered ten times in total, and if the player does not managed to kill at least three living beings every thirty seconds, the player will enter the “Starvation Speed” effect. During the duration of this effect, the player’s race will be changed to “Erebus Blood Roots”, and the players actions are going to temporally be controlled by the AI.
