ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 378: Side Story 2 – A Summon…… er? – Part 2

「Hey, wait just a freaking moment…… I have known you for a relatively short time, but even I am able to tell that when you are inquiring about something specific or peculiar, you are about to go and do something bat-shit insane. Besides, mingling with those guys is seriously bad news, let me tell you.」

「And why is that?」

It should go without saying: Noirlind attacked and almost completely decimated the frontline base, causing people to develop the feelings of hatred towards it unlike any other monster out there.

It must have all according to what the developers intended to do in the first place. Attacking and almost destroying the first base so that it would lead to building and strengthening the second, even better base.

Because of the accumulated hatred towards Noirlind, the “Siegwurm” faction was growing in numbers and strength, while the “Anit-Siegwurm” faction was frail and weak, to the point where it was almost completely non-existent.

「During the time of the pacification of Ashura-kai, the violence was kept to a bare minimum, which was a good thing. However, this time around the open conflict is something that cannot possibly be avoided, no matter what. Not when once faction exceeds in number, having almost one hundred people on board.」

After all, in all-out war, the one who comes on top is the one who possesses a bigger amount of resources. Not to mention that the vast majority of merchants and production workers from the frontline base belong to.

To Zenith Guevara, it did not matter what Pencilgton would choose to do here. However, trying to destroy the Black Dragon Subjugation Corps was probably meaningless here, so he was hoping that one of his most profitable clients would not simply choose to do something as stupid as that.

「Nfufufufu, believe me, the only times when I choose to go into the all out battle is when I’m sure that I can win one hundred percent. Either a flawless victory or nothing. But what about my request? Can you do it? Or maybe you are unable to do something like that this time around?」

「…… You of all people should know that there is no such thing as things that cannot be done. But not every bit and piece of information is known to the public, so there may be some dirty work involved into obtaining that.」

「And then there’s Sanraku-kun to consider as well…… If you leave that guy alone, he is going to do all kinds of stuff on his own, accumulating information. You must keep him on a tight leash, or else he is going to cause quite a bit of trouble. Not more than he is actually worth, but still.

But that being said, Pencilgton already had an idea how she can extract information from Sanraku.

Usually he can keep to himself pretty tightly, but that is only when there is no pressure being put onto him. So if you put sad pressure on him, or create a situation where he has no other choice but to start talking, he is going to spill every single last one out there. And Pencilgton knew just what to do to create a situation like that.

But for now Pencilgton was not going to do anything. It was way more fun to watch someone run around doing their best without even realizing that they were already caught up inside of her web of manipulation.

「Be sure to do that, and I shall throw you a bone in return. Some really juicy stuff, fresh from the guys at Library. Although getting it out is going to be a pain, but it’s not like you need to concern yourself with it or anything.」

「I see, well it’s not like I really expect anything all too grand, but still……」

「Ahh, but you know, there is one thing that I can easily share with you, my dear ZeniGeva-kun……」

Saying that, Pencilgton clapped her hand together while flashing a nasty smile and a truly malicious light lighting up inside of her eyes. Everything was going just the way she wanted it go.

「The members of our Guild have come into contact with the Black Dragon Noirlind.」

「…… Seriously? No shit?」

「So just to let you know, our whole Guild is most probably going to be in the “Siegwurm Subjugation Group”.」

Hearing that, Zenith Guevara went silent for a moment, as if he was pondering something. Zenith Guevara is a player as well, but rather than dishing out damage on the frontlines he enjoys a very different kind of playstyle here, the one that revolves around backstage deals and moving in the shadows. So it was more than certain to assume that while he would not be taking part in this whole “Dragon War” business, he would most certainly deal with any information regarding the two dragons, and maybe even more.

「…… Very well then, I might even go out of my way to throw you a little bone here.」

「Nice, nice. Something like under the counter goods, but way more like information broker-like?」

「Besides, there is one more thing that I would like to show you.」

「Hm? And what could that possibly be?」

As Pencilgton was following Zenith Guevara through the thick and dense forest where the dinosaur monsters would occasionally appear, soon they entered on the wild path, and the scenery around them gradually began to change.

「Originally I was going to make a big deal out of it and sell it to those who would pay more, but…… Since you are the member of this whole “Wolfgang” guild, I am going to settle with another deal: just be sure to give me some positive PR and advertisement, why don’t you?」

「Hee? Well, won’t you look at that, so there was hidden area in here after all……」

There were roots of a large tree spreading as far all over the ground as the eye could see. However, if you were to squeeze your body in between the roots and see beyond them, there was a cavity that was extending further down. It was probably due to consideration that it was a game, but the roots going down seemed to create a sort of a natural ladder, leading all the way down towards a cave the size of a small basketball court.

「Oh my, what’s this? Why would Zeni-chan even bring a woman to a secluded place such as this one? Wasn’t it you who said that you wanted to graduate from your imminent Wizardry with the help of a pure and innocent girl?」

「Nah, I think I’ll pass…… Besides, you know just how passive I tend to be when it comes to things like that, right?」

「Shut up, will you!? A woman can dream, alright!? A woman can dream!」

「Such dreams are better left off inside of your heart, when no one else is able to see them. So, how do you explain this?」

Apparently, it all looked like the roots of the overly enlarged tree, or a plant such as a potato. Its contents had been hollowed out to form an empty space, and closer towards the ground it was illuminated with the light of a strangely familiar moss. The web of roots was pretty dense here, popping next to one another at regular intervals.

And what’s more……

「Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh……」

「Yeah, thanks for that, Mandy-chan.」

「Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh……」

While holding the strange object in her hand, so similar to the oversized carrot or a potato, Pencilgton walks forward with a smile filled with both confusion and hope. This thing may certainly be weird beyond anything she had seen so far, but from a thing like that there is certainly a promise of new and rare materials to be had. Even crying is such a disturbing way……
