ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 379: Oh the Great President, Whatever Shall You Do Next…… Let Us Start the Bakumatsu Rampage! Part 1
* * *
Previously on the Great President’s Bizarre Adventures
Because she is in possession of the miraculous artifact called “Unification Flag”, a relic that strengthens everyone uniting under the same banner, my secretary NPC, Rice Miso was being targeted by the hit squads of various factions. But coming into contact with the (Self-Proclaimed) President who helped her in a pinch, Rice Miso proposes to establish a completely new faction with Sanraku Grilled Fish McDonald Mackerel as its leader!
Now, to summarize the events of this particular excursion, after annihilating the enemy forces that were chasing Rice Miso we set out to the nearby village, and after liberating its citizens from the oppressive presence of yet another enemy forces we gained that settlement and its people to our cause, which was the founding stone for our next objective: creating the great “United States of……”!!
「Mister President, we have received intel that the Top Village to the West of here wishes to join in on our great cause.」
「I thought so. With both Elgaren and Vrugante being in open conflict with one another, that village could not possibly be located in the worst place. Both sizes will want to use it as a supply line for their operations. Good for them, but not so much for the citizens, since they are going to be sucked completely dry of resources at this rate.」
「In that case, what is it that you would like to do, Mister President?」
* Let’s accept them, but there will surely be a whole lot of work to be done.
* No, we shall refuse their proposition. The States cannot allow themselves to take unnecessary risks this early in the game.
* …… Better yet, let’s wipe them off the face of Earth. I don’t like how cheeky they are with their proposition, so let’s make them know their place.
…… Hey, what the fuck?
「Of course we are going to accept their proposition. However, we must expect that not everything will go smoothly, so let’s be prepared to do some heavy-lifting in the near future.」
「Certainly, Sir. Understood.」
It happened again. I don’t know why, but lately the bottom left window has been giving me options that are rather…… extreme in the way of options being presented to me. Just now, it was the third time when I was presented with an oppressive, downright tyrannical course of action. I wonder why? Could it be that the States are going to ultimately go down the path of exterminating their enemies in cold blood at the slightest inclination of possible opposition?
There is also a possibility that choosing that option too many times in a row would lead us down the path of the inevitable bad end, so for now I am glad that I have chosen to refrain from going down that path.
It seems that with every outpost and settlement we liberate from the enemy control, the people there start getting along with one another and automatically join our cause, but…… Well, we may be on the “Unification” route, but since our States have only just been born with two people to it, we are a far cry from being considered any sort of “national power” or “superpower”.
So for now I was simply following the choices and instructions that the bottom left window was presenting to me, just like an actor would follow up on a script. Because of that we have managed to liberate the Kamla Village which was located on a sort of neutral ground, and was thus reborn simply as Kamla. Needless to say, this Kamla was at the current moment the capital city of the “United States of Dinner”.
It was also about time we set to increase the size of our capital from a village to a small town. This was done by venturing forth and liberating other small outposts and villages from other factions or neutral grounds, gradually increasing your sphere of influence. However, just claiming outposts and towns for yourself is not enough in a game like that. You need to think about what you want to do with those things and how to handle various matters, which of course would include taxes as well. Thinking logically, it is important to not be too strict with taxation in fear of being overthrown by your own people one day, so in order to prevent that, it would be wise to actually start with some proper city planning right away. This way, we would avoid problems down the road.
For the time being we have secured a crops field that could be transformed into an oil plant or grain field if need be. We also defeated the tax collectors from the other factions alongside their soldier entourages and took them prisoner. I also needed to make sure that our prisons would provide the inmates with three meals per day, since that would serve to increase Rice Miso’s liking with me even further.
I also noticed that the secretary NPCs that I have appointed to handle the local matters in different villages have a high amount of liking towards me. This in turn resulted in better way in which some matters could be handled and possible upgrades becoming unlocked for our territories. As they say, tea is better than water, albeit only in video games.
「Well now, what should we do now……?」
As for now, the state of affairs in this game’s world could best be described as “delicate balance”. We are at peace right now, but at this rate the open conflict is pretty much unavoidable. A sort of natural conclusion to the ongoing development race and the fact that apparently every other nation that was surrounding us was dead set on the course towards world domination. Kind of laughable, but if that’s what they wanted to do……
For the current moment, our United States of Dinner is a potential threat to about three other countries in the region.
The very first rival is the Kingdom of Elgaren. It’s a tutorial nation, let that be clear from the get go. It was reasonably close to our home base, plus its size and the amount of soldiers at their disposal was not all that great to begin with. It was more than obvious to me that the developers intention here was the players to bring that specific country down in the first place.
Next on the list is the Kingdom of Vrugante. It seems that they are the ones who are the most open about pushing for open conflict on the local or even world scale, thinking of themselves as the de facto rulers of the entire region. They are the second largest country in terms of size, and their territories are rich with mines of all sorts. Therefore, it seems that capturing them is going to prove pivotal to the development of our own nation down the road.
And finally we have the Holy Empire of Erfrent. It is the country that is considered to be the “Sacred Land”, and because of that…… Since they are the seat of the world’s most popular religion, they are a virtually invisible force that no one dares to trifle with. Unless they want to incur the wrath of everyone else from around the world.
