ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 380 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 380: Side story 3: Rampaging Madness At the End of Edo Period ~ The Enemy of My Enemy Is Also My Enemy ~ Part 1

* * *

Thinking about it at that time, it was nothing more but a wishful thinking on Sanraku’s end. Because there was absolutely no way in hell that the news about it would not reach Kyogoku’s ears and that she would not start to act on her own the first moment she heard about it.

「So, it seems that Matsuribayashi finally decided to log in, huh……?」

「Aaah, aaahhh, y-yeah, t-that’s right! No doubt about it! It must be him! A-After all, t-there are not all that many players out there going around the place while wearing a Hannya mask on their faces! After all, it was top premium item offered as a reward in the event!」

「Yeah, I guess that you’re right. Thanks a lot for your help. And here, a reward just for you: a whole bunch of delicious Divine Punishment!」

「Y-You bitch……! That’s now what you promised! Curse you! I hope that lingering curses and grudges will be your downfall!」

During the course of this event, “The Ultimate Moon”, the dead players are going to be revived in form of lingering “curses” and “grudges”. Of course, this would continue to occur for as long as the event lasts, and would end once it will be over.

Of course, since the dead players are no longer alive for the duration on the event, they can only interact with other dead players…… And on the other hand, the still living players cannot interact with the dead, but they can still see and hear them.

And needless to say, while some of the players tend to be cool about the notion that they were killed in the game, there are those who cannot stomach that fact and as a result develop something akin to the really unhealthy obsession with their killers. And this results in the really nasty cases of stalking and interfering with those who are still alive.

「……!!!」

「……???」

「……!!! …………!!!!!!」

To put it simply, right about now there was more than a dozen of ghosts that were all floating behind Kyogoku’s back, all because she’s been on the lookout for fights ever since the event kicked into action. And now there was one more ghost there as well, yet another addition to her ghastly collection.

But here is the thing: Kyogoku was unable to hear what the ghosts were saying to her. Sure, she could see that their mouths were moving alright and that that their expressions were that of true anger and hate, but that’s about it. The only thing she was able to hear was silence.

「Look, I know that you guys must have a thing or two against me for offing you like that, but do you think you could go with it somewhere else for the time being? You are starting to get really distracting. Talk about a true ghost experience……」

How could she possibly put it……? Yeah, the ghostly presence were not distracting per se, but they were really annoying more than anything else. But their presence and apparent need to say something was way more distracting than them starting to break dance, like: “Check this out, guys! My body is so light now! I can even do something like this now! There’s no way that I would be able to do this before! How cool is that!?” and then everyone else joined in while saying “Oh yeah! Let’s try to do that as well!”.

Faced with something like that, even the most seasoned warrior’s concentration would be laid to waste.

But sadly, with no way of hearing those ghosts, the only method of communication that was available to them in order to let their grudges be known was the body language. There was also the possibility of the sign language, but there was a very slim chance that they would know it.

In order to let at least some of her accumulating frustration out, Kyogoku let out a deep and long sigh. Then she looked behind once more at the group of annoying ghost entourage that was following her every single step. Somehow, she had a feeling that in just a short amount of time she would be adding a whole lot more numbers to this ghostly parade that was following her. She could only hope that their number would not break the barrier of one hundred or anything else like that. But even if that was to be the case, there would be simply no helping it. She just needed to resign herself to her fate and continue to try doing her best.

「Due to personal circumstances I was unable to participate in the event last winter! But now it is different! Now I am here! And that “Jifubuki” of yours, the prize for taking the third place during the last year’s Ranker event…… I want it! I want is so bad! And it is going to be mine, no matter what!」

「Kuh, I always knew that some of you guys were a truly specific and troublesome bunch, but this level of devotion is just overdoing it, don’t you think!? Plus, do you have any idea just how troublesome it was for me to get my hands on that, huh……!?」

All of a sudden, there was a whole literal rain of blades, no matter to what kind of weapons they may have belonged, falling down from the roof of one of the houses, aimed at only one person specifically. However, the Hannya mask-wearing player easily managed to dodge all of the incoming blades through a mixture of acrobatic evasive maneuvers and running alongside the roofs of other houses. It seemed as though that player was able to predict where exactly the weapons would be thrown and dodge them at just the right time, and the route he was taking made it seem as if he had this escape route planned before even the ambush had been set in place.

But while the Hannya mask-wearing player continued to evade the rain of weapons that was being thrown his way and running away, the group of other players wearing cherry blossoms-patterned haoris continued to rain down weapons onto him with the terrifying, almost monstrous accuracy.

And while the squadron of ghosts behind her back continued to make various faces, throw silent names her way and performing vulgar gestures towards their killer, Kyogoku’s face started to distort in the expression of pure joy unlike of which she has never experienced before in this game.

「Aaahhh, finally…… at long last! You are finally here, Sanraku! You are here and finally I can fight you the way I always wanted to!」

「Ugeeh!? Yo, what the fuck!? I was wondering what fucker was throwing weapons at me like that, but it’s just you! Kyo-Timate, you absolute bitch! Kuh, okay, listen here…… I don’t know what it is exactly that you want from me, but can it wait until later? Like, much later!?」
