To be perfectly honest with you all, if you were trying to bet everything on you sex appeal to get around in the world during the end times of the Tokugawa Shogunate, you might have as well given up on that idea. Because doing so was more than sure to end up in a total failure.

That is why I decided to take a break from Bakumatsu Online and as a change of pace I was chilling in my leather Presidential chair right now. The place we were right now was the Presidential House right in the middle of my United States. Also, as a side note, lately we have grown so big that we were actually starting to shape up as one of the actual top dogs for the position of the continental domination. Displaying our power to the neighboring nations was a right move after all, because now everyone knew what we were capable of and that crossing us might actually be a bad idea.

「Mister President, there is a representative of the Nomadic State of Shanarasta here to see you. Should I let him in?」

「Welp, of course that their representative is here. I mean, it would be weird if they were not sending envoys here. With a superpower raising to power right next to your own doorstep, I mean……」

* Take a friendly attitude with the representative

* Take a hostile attitude with the representative

* Turn the representative away without meeting him at all

「Alright, so what should we do here……? You know what, let’s take the friendly route here. After all, I am a patient man, and our United States are open-minded nation that welcomes friendly people with open arms.」

「Yes, Mister President. Understood.」

After saying that, Rice-chan went out of the room to bring the guest in. On a side note, right now she was wearing a way better clothes than the ones she was wearing on the day that we have met for the first time. Remembering that time, I let out a small sigh.

「Haah…… Relligion sure is convenient of a thing……」

It also just so happened that I have come to understand why this game managed to earn for itself the opinion it did. It has been revealed to be some time ago, and by a complete accident, mind you. To make a long story short, the difficulty scailing of this game is really, really loose. What I mean by that is, you can make this game stupidly hard or stupidly easy to play, all depending on your choices and preferred playstyle. What’s more, choosing certain approaches in terms of domestic affairs can make the game even easier if you know what to do.

And it all depends on the specific situations which are being presented to you on the current moment. And this particular one was probably the most broken of them all: upon reaching a certain level of power and influence in the region, there will come an event in which an envoy from the Holy Land of Afrent is going to pay you a visit. I have no idea if there is a proper legal term for what this visit is all about, but in a nutshell is like that: you get an invitation to join with the Holy Land under its protection, but in reality it is nothing more but a contract based on religious slavery…… But at the same time, that was also the greatest opportunity for our President here. Because if you make the ride choices, you can even perform a hostile takeover on the Holy Land of Afrent.

If you manage to persuade the ruler of the Holy Land of Afrent, the Saint Fionale, to form an alliance with you, then your United States will effectively grow in even more power and political influence. If that happens, then, well…… the difficulty level of this game is going to become even smaller. Honestly, at that point it will be hard to talk about any kind of difficulty to this game, as any form of challenge will become virtually nonexistent here.

Now imagine this situation: our United States were already experiencing a rapid growth in both power and influence at that point in time thanks to my actions and decision-making. What would happen here if we were to suddenly obtain the backing from the most powerful religious organization in the entire world? Why, of course you would get that the smaller countries and communities all around you would start to flock over to you like moths to the flame, either to secure their own safety and prosperity or in order to gain a leverage against their enemies that were opposed to this religion. This means more or less that thanks to one decision your country would start to expand its influence even further, gaining new allies, terrain and profits in the process…… I get a feeling that this is somehow way too easy for our United States.

But I also guess that this here what you would actually call a match point.

On one hand, such rapid expansion is not all that good of a thing, because the larger you are the more of a drag it is to give orders and monitor the status of each sector that falls under your jurisdiction. Not to mention that you have to visit each executive leader in every region of your country on a regular basis in order to give instructions and receiving reports.

However, the main motto of our United States here is that everyone should be getting along just fine. So even if you are an old man in a country that is useless as shit and nobody wants to even look at you, this here President is going to accept you and treat you as if you were his equal!

「Mister President! It’s about the New Garkart Empire! They are nearing our boarders! The one who is leading them is General Purgatory!」

「What? Those guys again? Haah…… You’d think that they would have learned their lesson about now……」

How many times does it make now that those chumps tried to start the uprising? Five? Six? This was really starting to get old at this point in time…… Oh, and yeah. After experiencing the Raid Boss battle in Bakumatsu Online I have come to realize just how stupid the battle system in this game really is. And now it’s nothing more but pure suffering for me.

* Time to go and take care of this!

* Let’s leave it to our subordinates to take care of that!

* Let’s try to negotiate in a friendly manner.

Let’s not kid ourselves here anymore. No matter how many friendly envoys we would have sent to the New Garkart Empire, it would still amount to nothing. They would have been sent away empty handed anyways.

「Which is exactly why I should go deal with this on my own!」

Yes! Slash away! Yes! The gauge is filled! Yes! Fire away! YES! PRESIDENT BEAM!!!

「It’s actually quite amazing that at this rate the experience points are still making me feel anything in this game……」

General Purgatory’s armor…… This is actually the sixth time that this item drops for me. This is not all that useful, since all of its stats are subpar compared to other games, but it might actually be a good armor set for my Presidential Guards Corps.

「About four more, I would guess?」

Just thinking about how my Presidential Guard Corps will look in this armor is enough to put a slight smile on my face here.
