ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 397 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier 397: Forbidden (Uncontrollable) Power Part 1
* * *
What am I going to do now……?
「Manifest yourself! My Guardian Beast!!」
「GYAAAAAAAOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!」
「Obliterate it!!!」
In response to the President’s will, the guardian spirit of the United States is summoned to the battlefield. The divine beast called “Dinner” opens up its mouth and gathers energy particles inside of it. Then it shoots out a ray of bright energy that cuts across the black masses of enemies, reducing them all to a bloody paste.
While the ray of energy swallows up the vast majority of the enemy forces, making them scream like demons from the depths of hell, the United States forces…… No, the Allied forces clash with the remnants of the enemy army.
「Prepare for the second shot! In the meantime, I shall help out on the frontlines!」
Uooohhh! You don’t want to take a direct hit from the weapons imbued with the splinters from the holy cross that my presidential guards are carrying with them? I get it, I totally get it! I would not want to be hit with that as well, but sorry! Someone has to do it, and it won’t be me here!
Now would be a good time to actually mention that there was no plot-development leading towards this battle whatsoever here. Like, at all.
Up until some time ago I was sure that the shitty element of Kazegumo President was the monotony of constant battles switched up with domestic affairs.
However, this state of mind of mine has come to an end the moment I chose to invade the Imperial Palace of Envol, located in the capital city of the New Garkart Empire. It happened only yesterday, but for me it felt like a whole lot more time has come to pass.
The identity of the supreme general of this Empire is actually a malevolent demon that was once sealed away, but now somehow managed to return?
The cornered Emperor decided to forge a contract with the malevolent Demon on the spot?
And in accordance to with that contract the Emperor turned all of the Empire citizens into sacrifices?
And we were forced to withdrawn due to the strength of the enemy being so overwhelming all of a sudden?
And because of that exact withdrawal we have lost over the half of the territories that we have originally managed to acquire in the process?
And because of that I was supposed to undergo the Guardian Spirit trials and acquire some special MAP weapons meant just for that event?
Right about now, this game has turned from a strategy game/ management game into a zombie apocalypse action Hack and Slash game.
Not only that, but the over tone and difficulty of the game has been all over the god damn place ever since the raid on the capital city of the New Garkart Empire. Is it not just wrong to include new genres all of a sudden like that! I mean, it does not break the game or anything like that, but it is plain down annoying as hell! I mean, this is supposed to be a strategy game!
「Destroy! Destroy it all!」
Sayin that, the inside of the mouth of my Guardian Deity shines bright once more. The name of that creature is “Dinner” and it was created as a form of embodiment of the United State’ citizens hopes and dreams.
By the way, because of the way in which aiming works in this new VR system, this game right now was also basically a First Person Shooter. It is certainly a mess to get a hold of here, but there is actually a good reason for why the system was designed in the way it was designed.
「Former General Purgatory……!」
「GYEEEEEEHHHHHH………」
Fuck me, now even fallen generals are back as demons that I needed to fight, and what’s more, the AI of the otherwise garbage level enemy mob became way more advanced and difficult, with stronger attacks and swifter moves. The General Purgatory got a new bright red armor, and there were a whole lot of thorny tentacles growing out of his abdomen. His moves were a whole lot more aggressive, and there was this special kind of bloodlust that could be felt towards the player character.
The raise in the difficulty level was so severe here that it almost seemed as if everything else that I have been doing in this game was merely a tutorial. …… Or it’s like, about the eighty percent of the whole domestic affairs mechanic had been thrown away. It’s like trying to get into agricultural business, but only being able to cultivate rapidly growing crops such as potatoes.
And besides, every time that I come back from another battle, Rice-chan has a report ready for me…… and those reports have always been about the losses that our United States’ party have been suffering…… But I guess that it’s fine, right? I mean, it’s always like that in games, right? Before you can make a miraculous comeback and take back what was stolen from you, you need to be cornered and at the brink of defeat. This is just a part of the experience.
No, I guess that it makes sense from the story perspective, or at least it supposed to be? I mean, this world technically has magical McGuffins that can influence the events in it, and the President is someone capable of shooting energy beams from his eyes, literally decimating the enemy hordes all by himself. Going by this logic, it should only make sense that you should be able to overcome demonic armies with the same kind of ease, right? Since this is but a game, huh? But somehow…… that sort of explanation…… I was not finding it all that convincing here……
Humans cannot live if they do not breathe. And if we want to talk about breathing, the act of exhaling is as important as inhaling, if not even more important here.
In other words, if exhaling gets too bothersome to you, you should just switch gears and try to inhale some air for a change of pace.
「Waaah!? S-Sanraku-san!? You’re awake now!?」
「Yo, Emul! I do realize that that this is sudden, but won’t you go for a little trip to the new continent together with me?」
「You were sleeping for so long and this is the first thing you have to say to me after you wake up!? I just cannot believe you sometimes!!!」
If you are unable to deal with all the randomness and unreasonable bullshit in Kazegumo President, this means that you have to change gears and try to deal with ShanFro’s randomness and bullshit instead, right?
But before we go to the new continent, let’s go pay you Onee-chan a visit, shall we? There is something I would like to try here.
「Alright! Ready or not, here I go~!」
「Oh, yeah…… Wait, so soon!?」
PRICK! PRICK! With that, Efuree pricks my arm with a giant needle. Or it was more like she just slammed the damned thing into my arm. And she did that so forcefully that my arm actually went numb right there for a moment.
However, with this thing out of the way, I now managed to increase the number of accessories available to me from five to seven. No, strictly speaking one slot was still taken, so I actually have six slots available to me at any given time. That being said, I really need to get my hands on some good accessories there, aren’t I?
「Hey, Efuree? I was actually thinking, can you process something like that?」
「Hmm…… I should be able to, but this would be extremely difficult, even for someone like me.」
So, it’s no use here, huh……? That being said, I take the Scorching Scale back to my inventory and then together with Emul we exit Efuree’s store. Alright, next stop on our list!
「What can you possibly hope to accomplish with a single scale like that?」
「Thought as much…… Ah, speaking of which, do you have any idea where Catzeria is exactly located?」
I have decided to ask Break about the possible place where I could find Aramis, but the answer I received here was far from what I would call satisfying.
「What’s this all about? Are ya possibly thinking about going to the Cat country for a visit?」
「I just felt like going on a stroll in that general direction while being at it, that’s all.」
「Unfortunately for you, I have no idea where that place would be, so I cannot be of much help in that regard.」
