ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 398 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 398: Expanding Your Circle of Friends Part 1

No matter how old you may be, there is a certain type of romance to be had in the situation where you come into a possession of the power that even you yourself are unable to control. Think of cursed weapons in video games and literature, the objects of immense power allow the Heroes to get out of the tight spot, even if the price to pay is them getting hurt or losing their mind. They are powerful objects, only to be resorted to should everything else fail. A theme that should be relatively easy to grasp and understand.

And now I can say with all responsibility that I am the one who is in awe here at the current moment…… That, and I think that this is dangerous. Truly dangerous.

「I don’t think that I’m capable of controlling this power. Like, at all.」

In order to give this new skill a go, I have suffered consecutive eighteen deaths in total. I don’t even want to think about the kind of Death Penalty that this is going to impose on me. However, even at level one, the amount of utility and advantage that this skill can give you is tremendous. To put it into perspective, if the utility of this skill was to be measured in monetary value, I would have been able to afford a luxurious car with it.

「But when I think about the consolidation for this……」

Indeed, when you get down to it, this skill is pretty awesome. It has all the potential to be called a Balance Breaker when it comes to the game, as well as making me pretty much invincible when it comes to one on one Player Versus Player type of battles. Needless to say, if that skill is going to be nerfed one of these days, I can only accept it as something natural and a given.

However, the focus of this game is more anti-monsters anyway. Of course, as long as the main theme of this game is still exploration of the world, there will be fights with both players and the NPC, but they are surely not the bread and butter here. Or to put it another way, PVP becoming more popular I here is the last thing I want to see.

This skill has so much utility to itself, but if you were compare it to a battleship, it would only be the one that can use its main cannons, because everything else had to be forsaken for the sake of making this thing operational. Besides, if the main guns are more than enough to settle the battle, why would there be any reason for anything else here? Plus, when it comes to games like that, you can’t possibly expect every skill to be overpowered and universal in use. There has to be merits and demerits, otherwise the balance would have been non-existent.

It is only the basic rule of the world that if you were to sharpen something at one point, it is going to become dull somewhere else as a result. The sooner the people would understand that the better, but I guess that not everyone is ready yet to accept some harsh things as truths.

It can be said here that the reason for connecting a bunch of skills together serves the purpose of ridding them of any diversity they may have and instead focusing on one greater purpose. Now, should it be a great skill, or a strange skill or a bad skill, it all depends on the player that is going to be using said skill…… Considering its activation cost, not every other of my skills will be able to go along with it. For now I am not going to do that, but I must carefully think about that can go along with it and what is best to be left alone to its own devices.

「For the time being I guess that its usages are going to be really limited, but…… With this I feel as though my role as a gunball may be put to some real extremes……」

As a side not here, I may have also come up with yet another method in which this Secret Row was going to be useful to me.

This was actually suggested to me by Elk herself, and on a side now she looked exhausted for some reason. That suggestion is actually a supreme sword technique…… And even though I was still able to try it some more, it seems that there is a limit of uses per day for this technique, which is exactly one for the current me. Oh well, I’ll give it a go some other time, some other day.

「Say, Emul? Isn’t my nose bent a little bit?」

「……? …………??????」

For a moment out there Emul was looking at me with surprise, as if I was some sort of a mythical creature that just decided to show itself before him. Of course I still had my mask on my face, so he would be unable to tell. I was asking because of the number of times I have crushed my face against a wall now. But I guess my facial features would always go back to normal with every respawn. But I could not help it but to feel anxious about it.

「Oh well, I guess that about wraps it up for our business here…… Emel, could you take me to the new continent?」

「Yes, I know, I know…… and I guess that you want me to hold the fort while you will be gone as well, right?」

「Well, you know…… I’m a Pioneer, so I often go headfirst into situations that equal to certain suicide. And besides……」

「And besides what……?」

「Maybe if I put it on my head, it will be blown away……?」

「I don’t like that idea. It’s a fast road to becoming nothing more but a stain on a wall.」

I don’t like it either, but since this will be result either way, I guess that it just cannot be helped.

The forest. It is the great Sea of Trees, a place where the smell of blood is sure to waft through the air instead of crushed leaves and fresh soil. This place is always an arena for survival to the fittest, and recently there has been a new contender here, hoping to raise to the top: humans.

「Hey! This thing is a whole lot faster than what I have heard!」

「Don’t you think that Triceratops should not be able to run and jump like a running deer? I think that what I know in my head does not match with what my eyes are seeing!」

「Huh!? Wait just a…… Bugeh!?」

「H-Healing! We need healing here!」

Yeah, watching other people struggle from the safe distance sure is fun. And from this vantage point you could also see that there was another monster approaching the group of players from the other side of the field.

Welp, the moment the Healer on whom everyone in here depended got killed, the battle was as good as lost. Thank you for your hard work and rest in peace.

「Muh?」

What’s this? Looking for a fight, punk? What/ Can’t you tell that my level is over one hundred thirty? And can’t you see the scratched wounds all over my torso and legs? Hmm? Still want to do it?

Just at that time I saw one more monster with a really stiff (in a literal sense) coming onto the stage here. It had a strangely-shaped head, as if there was a helmet on it or something like that. It first looked at me, but then it just turned away and charged right at the other present, knocking them all away. It sort of reminded me of a speeding bullet here.

「FUGORORORORORORORO!!!!!!!!!」

「Oh, ooohhh…… Talk about being in a good position, huh?」

Could it be that this is the type of monster that puts everything into raw physical power at the expense of throwing its sense of reason and common sense aside? I have already managed to forget its name, but this helmet-headed dinosaur should definitely be herbivorous here, so wait, I’m the source of protein for it, right? As far as eating habits are concenrend, we should still be able to understand one another, right?

However, the other side in here seems to be oriented entirely on fighting. It was staring at me with its shining reptile eyes, leaning forward and keeping its head low, ready to charge. There were huge drops of saliva dripping out of its mouth.

Its size is about that of a mini car, and I can guarantee you that this is actually a physical type of monster that mostly relies on charging dead ahead at its enemies and taking them down like that. And thanks to my paper-thin armor, it would have spelled my doom in a second.

「Hmm? That’s actually perfect.」
