ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 399 Part 2

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 399: Critical Leg, Conquering the Sky Part 2

When you put it all like that, on paper it may seem like this skill combines the best of everything that the seven individual skills had to offer, but…… the reality here is not all that sweet. It does not work like that.

Now listen well here, because it is fairly important. Human beings depend on their legs when it comes to movement, and that’s something so obvious that you don’t even have to think about it. But at the same time, human legs are also responsible for breaking down the speed and coming to a stop, right? So, with that being said, the fifth step you use to get the last, most powerful speed boost, but in that case…… how exactly do you come to a stop after that……?

The sixth step is just your plain and old regular step, without any sort of buffs or correction here. Now, I don’t think that I need to explain what is going to happen to one’s foot when you will touch the ground with it while going so fast? …… Yes, that’s right, the ground is going to act like a huge cheese grater here and make a bloody mess out of your foot.

In other words, what you needed to do here was to start applying breaks with means other than regular steps, usually some other skills, at the time of making the fifth and the last step. That was all well and good, but…… I don’t need to remind you what is going to happen when you are accelerating like crazy and decide to floor the breaks all of a sudden, right? RIGHT?

Ah, the bitter memories of that time when I was dyeing the walls of the Rabbitz Coliseum red with my own blood over and over and over again……

Because I had no idea how this skill was going to work, I started to run like I normally would and ended up accelerating to the max right from the start, crushing face-first into the wall without actually understanding what was going on there.

Not understanding what was going on, I lost my balance and tripped, planting my face into the wall at full speed.

Not understanding what was going on, I jumped into the air and had trouble landing correctly, which resulted in me speeding to the side at somewhat slower speed, but one that was enough for me to crush face-first into the wall and die.

I thought it might be alright to try to kick the wall in order to avoid the certain death that way, but that would only end up me losing balance while running up the wall and launching myself at the wall at the opposite side of the arena, where I would be turned into the usual bloodied paste.

Now, I know that it is probably all my fault as well, but I really want to believe that the huge ass crack in the arena’s wall was not the result of my actions. I mean, how hard do your head needs to be in order to crack a solid wall of this scale?

The bottom line in here is that if you try to use that skill indoors or in tight spaces, you are for sure going to end up as a red stain on the wall. However, if you were to use it in large opened spaces, you have almost no restrictions to the way in which you can move here.

「Ooohhh!!! Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oooohhhh……!!!!!!!!!」

Stupid fucking acceleration…… However, perhaps due to the natural air cushioning up here the speed at which I was going was actually starting to slow down. Don’t get me wrong, I was still going pretty fast here and gaining altitude, but for now it was calm enough for me to actually regain some of my composure and start looking around at the scenery that was surrounding me.

And since normal bird mask would be of no real use here to me, I have decided to switch it for one of the Tactical War Beasts’ helmet. I know that this is just a game, but I don’t want to suffer my eyeballs getting pushed inside of my skull if I can help it.

Now that I take a good look at it, I actually managed to already traverse about the two thirds of the entire Sea of Trees area. …… I know that I was flying at high speed at a high altitude, but two thirds so fast? Isn’t that actually kind of crazy here? I mean, this forest is freaking huge!

No, maybe I’m thinking about it all wrong here? If this whole area is shaped like a crescent moon, shouldn’t it be that the distance is not going to be all that great if you know where to go to take the shortest and easiest path? Or is that line of thinking wrong as well? And considering the fact that the time in which the players could capture the dungeons and areas back at the old continent, it may actually be that the way in which the players perceive the notion of distance is actually smaller than the actual distance you would need to travel.

…… And could someone answer me this? Why do people get sidetracked so easily in this world? Turning their eyes away from what’s important and turning towards other, more insignificant matters.

「I think that I should start to fall down soon enough……」

Sadly, human beings don’t have wings. That is why they cannot help it but to yearn for the sky that is forever out of their reach…… If I happen to fall towards the ground here, I am going to turn into a wet stain on the ground.

So I have to think about it so that nothing bad is going to happen to me here.

「The success rate here is about seventy five percent…… The most unreliable number in the entire world.」

The success rate is something that is surely better than the success rate of twenty five percent, which is not really all that much in comparison. It is also better than fifty percent, which take a whole lot of courage to tackle, but it is still worse than a one hundred percent success rate. So seventy five is actually a devil’s number. But wasn’t the devil’s number a six hundred sixty six? A six hundred sixty six percent success rate? Hell, I would worship Satan if that was the case.

「Alright! Here goes nothing! Uryah!」

I move my body in mid-air while facing down with my head. I then position myself in such a way that I would start moving from the top towards the bottom. I then use my fourth step in order to kick the void under my feet and start moving towards the ground. I also make a mental note of that.

BOOM! Piercing the atmosphere like a speeding bullet, I move towards the ground at tremendous speed, making me look like a human bullet.

It’s not that I am not used to falling to my death in other games, but…… This is scary! Scary and dangerous!

「However!」

This is a battle not against the world, but against myself! And I must emerge victorious, relying on the power of physics to carry me!

The pressure of the wind tries to hold me back, but it is not going to be enough here to stop me. The physics engine makes it so that once I start to fall down at such magnificent speed, there is literally nothing that can spot me now.

And now for some attitude control! Switch your position, facing your legs towards the ground and your head towards the sky. Ugh! I knew it, it is really had to control your movements in a situation like that! While spreading both of my hands and balancing, I concentrate on my right foot that puts the essential fifth step on the ground, and bend the knee and lift the left foot a little … !!

「Nuoooh!!」

Usually when a person comes flying towards the ground, this results in that person becoming a wet stain. However, my right foot, which stretches out and also acts as a buffer, nullifies the impact of fall damage with the effect of critical speed.

But apart from my main body, the impact on the ground itself is hard that a terrible sound shakes my immediate surroundings, and one point on my right foot sinks into the soil.

However, the effect of the fifth step is activated here, and the acceleration of jumping from the bottom to the top, collides head-on with the kinetic energy from the top to the bottom including the fall acceleration due to gravity.

「…………」

When the dust finally settles, I’m a bird head once again, posing imposingly with his right foot on the ground.

Huh, won’t you look at that? My arms are spread about like wings.

「…… Alright, shall we go now?」

Should I try this again after the recast is over? However, the probability of success here is only seventy five percent…… It’s a number that I can’t really trust. But if it was seventy nine percent…… Yeah, that would have been better. Much better.
