ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 426: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 3 Part 2
At that exact moment, all the players and NPC that were within the golden dome’s reach felt a strong and weird kind of pressure crushing down on them from the up above for a short moment…… But that was it. There was nothing more after that.
「What the……!? What just happened……!?」
「Was that a buff? Or maybe a debuff!?」
「For the time being, it doesn’t seem that it is something that affects our ability to move around all that much……」
The appearance of the new Unique Monster and, its mysterious way of speaking and its abilities were all thing that required the players to stay ever so vigilant. That being said, Arget Owl, previously busy with blasting away the small dragons, was investigating what has happened as well…… and she seemed to have found her answer, right there in the status screen.
「Special Status “B.I.G”……?」
Because this new and sudden development was such a distraction for the players, the vast majority of them just stood there confused, not knowing what was going on. However, the small dragons did not care for the players’ confusion, advancing forward and attacking as if nothing special happened at all.
「Whoa there!」
「Geh! That was dangerous!」
While Argent Owl was busy with processing all the information here, she saw with a corner of her eye that one of the small dragon moved in on her to attack her. But unfortunately for the small dragons, Arget Owl was always ready to counter attack and the dragons died before they could even scratch her. However, their behavior was most unusual here: one of the dragons moved in in front of the other to act like its shield.
However, that was not the real problem here. The real problems would start from there.
「…… A countdown?」
She had no idea what was the exact cause of this, but there were two strange icons displayed in the exact place where the two small dragons have died.
One icon was the one displaying the value of one hundred eighty with an arrow pointing up. The other one was displaying the value of fifteen and the arrow pointing downwards instead of upwards. It also seemed that the two icons were actually connected to one another.
「…… No way. There is just no way.」
Seeing those numbers, a strange kind of a premonition came over Argent Owl, mostly because of her instincts gained during her time of being the Number One Meetias player in the entirety of the United States of America. She had experience in heroic roleplaying, and right about now when she saw the icon with number fifteen starting to deplete and reaching zero, that premonition changed into a confirmation. And once that connection happened, she knew that she had to let her partner know right away.
「…… !!! That’s right! Role Play!」
「Huh? Say what now?」
「That’s right! Katsu! Role Play! WE must Role Play here! And we must Role Play according to the Dragon’s words! Heroic actions, you understand? We must perform deeds befit of great Heroes, otherwise we are going to be faced with a penalty and we are going to have our points being deduced from us!」
For a moment out there Katsu looked as if he was chewing the words he just heard, wondering if it was wise to believe them or not. But then, he happened to look up towards the place where Siegwurm was hanging in the air, looking down onto the battlefield. Somehow, those words made a whole lot of sense to him. He could not explain why, but he thought that in Siegwurm’s case something like that would definitely ring true. And if it was indeed so, this would greatly change the nature of this entire decisive battle.
「Really now, Siegwurm!? Really!? This is insane! I thought that level restrictions and forced sex changes were the apex of ridiculousness in this game, but this just tops it all! Now I truly must have seen everything this game has to offer!
Forcing the players in role playing in a very specific way is, as a matter of fact, way more annoying and difficult than a simple level restriction or parameter changing.
And there is one more notion: what exactly is the definition of “Heroic deeds” here? Or rather: what deeds Siegwurm considers to be heroic? Because if the debuff can get applied to a Tank that shielded its ally from damage, then you can be sure that the players are going to be confused as all hell about that.
「There is no sense and meaning in living wisely if you are going to die like an idiot in the end……!!」
It can easily be said that stability is the exact opposite of the concept of heroism. It seems that Seigwurm is a firm believer in the concept that no great crisis can be prevented without a great Hero of the People being involved in it. People don’t yearn for a crisis-free hero, at least not Siegwrum.
However, if Siegwurm wanted the players to act in Heroic way, surely he must have something that will benefit them for going out of their way like that.
But…… But still……
What would have happened is Argent Owl’s reaction time was way slower and she was too late to defend herself, falling dead on the ground instead of the small dragon? When you are going on a Heroic Adventure, starting from the square one is something that you cannot do, otherwise that would not be an action befit of a Hero at all.
「This is bad, really, really bad, you hear me, Argent Owl!? For the current moment, we should back away and rejoin my guild mates back at the ship! Otherwise we won’t stand a chance!」
「And here I was, hoping that I will get to play around some more in here…… Hmm? What that?」
All of a sudden, Argent Owl looks up to the sky. Her intuition as a number one gamer in the United States, something that should technically not be present inside of a VR world, told her to do that at this exact moment. She was not looking at Siegwurm still hanging in the night sky, but she was looking somewhere beyond him, towards something still hidden in the darkness of the night.
「–––––– UUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH…………」
A perfect starry sky, a part of which is cut out in black. No, it was not cut out. It was covered. Covered by something that was huge and was travelling across the night sky at high speed. At this rate, it would even cover the golden surface of the moon itself.
And it was screaming, at that ––––––!
「SIEGWUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!」
「NUOOOH!?」
In the next moment, a huge mass of blackness rammed right into the side of Siegwurm, throwing the Golden Dragon off balance. That black mass was none other than Noirling, who has come to the battlefield while flying at a monstrous speed.
And then at the same time. On the ground, an army consisting of members of almost all races besides People of the Forest and Fish People emerged from the forest.
「Umm, I guess with things as they are now I am technically the commander here? Umm, oh well, in that case…… Forward, march!」
A scarf, a pelvic girdle, and a headband. Although they can be worn in different places by different people, a humanoid figure like a lizard and a humanoid figure like a dragon, all wrapped in a black cloth, jump out onto the battlefield.
And leading them was a human with a fox-like face.
