ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 436: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 13 Part 1

It seems that AI guiding both the big dragons and the smaller ones is not determined by the lone factor of targeting the players with the biggest kill scores amongst everyone present.

And there is this certain thing I have heard from other players that I managed to help all around the battlefield. It seems that the more aggro is directed towards the White Dragon Bryleinego, the more small dragons will start to pop out of it. That, and their variety and characteristics will start to get more and more diverse. At least that is the most popular hypothesis.

In other words, it means more or less that the smaller dragons are more prone to targeting those players that their mother, the White Dragon herself, considers to be the highest threat at the current moment. So it would naturally goes like that: if I wonder around the battlefield and help the players who are being attacked by the smaller dragons, I should be able to take that aggro off of them and focus it on myself, right? At the very least, that is my theory here, but I am willing to assume that it is more or less correct.

And that would mean that anyways……

「Oi! Are you listening to me? Or are you perhaps asleep!?」

「Yes, I am listening, I am listening! I’m a bunny after all, so my ears can hear everything loud and clear.」

「I see, oh well, as long as you are listening then I guess that it is all good! …… Or not really! That sword! Yes! That sword right there!」

For some reason, right about now one of the targets of the White Dragon’s hate was following us, seemingly with the intention of not letting us get away.

「You there, is that…… It is! It’s Aradval, isn’t it!!!???」

「Umm…… No……? I mean, wasn’t Aradval supposed to be a spear or something else like that? And this thing is a sword, no matter what you say or how you look at it, right?」

「Mhmm……? Ah, you know what? I guess that you are right, but…… No, that’s not it! Wait just a minute! I know! Now I remember! There is an old tale in our tribe that teaches you to have a flexible mind no matter what hardships or circumstances you are facing! It is the anecdote about how the great Hero Dordana had to break his own weapon during battle! He was using a spear, but the battlefield was extremely narrow and unfit to swing a spear around! So he broke the blade from the pole and thus Aradval became a sword! That’s right!」

After that there was a two seconds of rather awkward silence. Of course, the smaller dragons were not going to let that slide and started to rush towards us with the killing intent emanating from their bodies. In response to that, I slashed the two smaller dragons in half with my sword and the Giantess that was following me managed to dice the giant-sized dragon with ease thanks to the dual swords she was carrying with her.

「Nah, I’m telling you, this thing was a sword from the very beginning. I’m sorry if it resembles that Ardaval of yours, but it is not Aradval.」

「Yeah, that’s right!」

For a moment out there I have thought that Giantess might actually be someone like Weissash, a high-ranking NPC amongst the Giants tribe. Or at least that would be the implication her weapon was giving, since it was clearly distinct from all the other weapons the other giants were using here. But here is the real question: will I be able to reach an understanding with that Giantess, just like I managed to do that with Weissash? I mean, role play can certainly open up many doors and make many things possible, but everything has its limits. Would this person be one of such limits?

「You! Why do you have that!? What have you done!?」

「Whoa there! Don’t you dare to just jump to baseless accusations and conclusions on your own! What if the situation is exactly the opposite of what you think of it!?」

「Eh? Ahh, umm…… I mean……」

Whoa there! Good thing that I have a three man squad here with me. Thanks to that the possibility of getting jumped all of a sudden is really low and we can respond with our own Divine Punishment if need be. But that is only if we will be forced to make a fight with this Giantess, which I would honestly like to avoid, given our current circumstances.

「No, I am sure about it, there is no doubt…… That brilliant blade, the feeling of the lingering flame, that aura of a weapon that destroys the dragons standing in its way…… I see, so! Does that mean that you have managed to find it!?」

「Yes, that is correct! You are correct in stating that! That’s amazing! I knew that you would understand that right away! By the way, what is your name? I’ve never caught that.」

「Mmmhhh, aaahhh…… My name is the Unrivaled Dual Swords, Mora Vegalta Phione……!」

Oh, is that right? Not that I really get it, but it must look really cool when you are fighting with dual swords while being three meters tall.

「…… Mora Vegalta?」

「What? You don’t know? Talk about a disappointment. That is the name of the great weapons that our revered ancestor Odin used to carry around with him and fight. This name is also an homage to the great swords of the past…… Vegalta!」

「Oh wow! Really? That’s actually amazing!」

The dual swords are swung in unison, slicing the small dragon into ribbons. I see, so this is a sword that can basically split into dual swords…… But when it comes to that name, isn’t that somewhat weird? I mean, this sounds more like a name of the place rather than name of a weapon. Could it be that there is some kind of a greater story behind it?

「Fufufun, I was born in the village of Vegalta and I wanted to use those swords in order to exact vengeance upon the Dragons alongside my brothers and sisters, and what’s more…… Wait! No, that’s not it! That’s not what’s important in here right now!」

「Oh? Wait, that’s really interesting and all that, but please let me change my clothes first. Then we can talk some more.」

I honestly feel like we have been going on like that for more than eight minutes straight here. It’s a shame that humans can’t tell the exact time with the help of their biological clocks alone, but one thing is important in here: I don’t feel any dread or looming sense of crisis approaching fast, so it is most probably alright for me to make a slight detour just like that.

But on the other hand, it is not wise to just wait for the crisis to come around on it’s own. So it’s better to get a move on and deal with the problem before it manages to escalate even further.

Then I take out a jet-black crystal from my inventory and swing Aradval with one hand, destroying the crystal in one fell swoop.
