ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 440: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 17 Part 2
「The Plan. You know what Plan, right? The one that caused that idiot over there to go on a monstrous rampage? That idiot alongside his robot sidekick? About goddamn time they finally get their asses to work……」
「Fuhm, yeah…… HMM!?」
It was a great reaction coming from both Rust and Mold right there. The two looked to the side where Katsu was pointing towards, and first they both went pale on their faces, only for their eyes to open as wide as saucers, their looks happening to scream “Is that a freaking MONSTER over there!?” No matter how you look at it, you couldn’t have asked for a better reaction. And while the two were busy comprehending what was happening towards the White Dragon, Katsu turned his attention towards the Green Dragon.
Right there, a whole new battle was still raging on, showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
「When it comes to the Non-Standard Tactical Warbeasts, each set consists of many parts and the additional armaments that come alongside them. However, since three people have the right of ownership of those things, in order to use some of them, the other two have to give their approval. Oh, and by the way, this is the Aether Reactor, without which the Non-Standard Tactical Warbeasts have no hope of working.」
「Wait, whoa, wah, geh, haah!?」
Saying that, Katsu took out the Aether Reactor and threw it Rust’s way with an ease with which you would normally throw an apple. However, Rust tried to catch it with clumsy movements and them was cradling the item in her arms just like one would hold a newborn baby.
「I mean, I shouldn’t be too long before others start to converge around here as well…… And yet, why do I get a feeling that things are going a little bit too smoothly for us……?」
In fact, contrary to people like Akitsu Akane, who apparently had no “desires” while playing video games, Katsu as a Professional Gamer with quite the track record on him was quite competitive. Or rather, his desire to win and be on top was quite strong.
Therefore, if things like the ones in here were going smooth, TOO smoothly for his liking, he would always become anxious and uneasy…… But those feelings were with him since the very moment this Unique Scenario presented itself before the players, so right about now he had no idea if his instincts were right, or if they were simply playing tricks on him.
「Alright then…… I wonder just how the “Nuevo Riche” is faring……?」
In the first place, this whole plan is actually one crazy and weird of a story. Despite of one of the conditions for clearing this quest being “Defeat Siegwurm, the Heavenly Emperor”, the Golden Dragon King in question continues to hover high in the air, far outside of the player’s reach. And it is only a natural and logical conclusion that only three players and no one else have access to the Non-Standard Tactical War Beasts at this point in time. Therefore, since the vast majority of the players are bound to stay on the ground at all times, there must be some sort of condition or a trigger that forces Siegwurm to go down towards the ground, right?
So far, the golden shine is still far away into the sky, so far that only one player managed to reach it up to this point in time. But perhaps that’s about it. Perhaps only one person being able to reach so high was simply not enough here. Katsu ponders that problem, thinking just what could be the trigger that would force Siegwurm to go towards the ground or make it vulnerable.
「The Brave Hero, the B.I.G, personality trait or character……」
「–––––– I’m pretty much sure that this is all about reaching a positive evaluation of the “Collective B.I.G Gauge” of the entire player base to pass a certain threshold, or something alongside those lines.」
「Hmph, you certainly took your sweet time getting here, huh? Pencilgton.」
「No, well, you see, that Green Dragon turned out to be way more persistent than I would have thought it would be, so…… I just went and found Tottori the Simane, and I ended up shoving all of the Brockentreed’s aggro onto him~.」
Somewhere out there on the battlefield, a lone bowman screamed in terror as the Green Dragon started to approach him. He may have been revered as a Hero by the other players, but truth to be told something like that was a little bit too much for him. But his scream soon blended with the other sounds of the ongoing battle and no one was able to hear it anymore. Now, treating the Green Dragon like the thing of the past, Pencilgton chugged down an entire bottle of HP Recovering Potion and looked towards the Red Dragon ,where the battle was becoming fiercer and fiercer by the moment.
「Pufufu, I feel like it’s been ages since we have last met Sanraku-kun in game like that…… He certainly has become much wilder, hasn’t he?」
「Yeah, just like an herbivore undergoing a sudden change into a carnivore. But the scale here is way too big and it happened way too fast.」
「I’m so scared~. You think it’s some sort of a side effect from having played too many shitty games? Have they finally caused poor Sanraku to basically go mad? Kukuku, what do you say to that, Katsu-kun?」
While taking her eyes off Sanraku and switching towards the two dragons duking it out high above in the sky, the Human Mandragoras, the number of which was reduced to seven, readied for battle once more.
「Since this Dragon seems to be so obsessed with the idea of Heroes, only saying Brave Hero this and Brave Hero that, I guess that the condition must be connected to that particular idea. But anyways, I have heard that our dear Sanraku-kun even challenged Siegwurm to a duel, huh……?」
「But it is also a possibility that the worst case scenario won’t come to pass, right? Right?」
「No, no, no, my dear Katsu-kun. You see, no matter how you try to look at it, the legends of the Dragon Slayers are just highly unrealistic and improbable.」
「Aaahhh…… Could it be that all of the Colored Dragons are going to be defeated just like that?」
「Surely, this is rather inconvenient for us the way it is now, but on the other hand……」
It is a policy for the “Wolfgang” Guild that Noirlind must be kept alive and emerge victorious from this duel. And if it is indeed so, it means that all the other pieces are unnecessary and has to go. Red Dragon, White Dragon, Green Dragon……
「No, let us go forth exactly the way we were going up until this point! We know what we are fighting against in here, and seeing that the Green Dragon Brockentreed can be one resistant bastard even now, I’d say we need to focus our efforts onto the Red Dragon and the White Dragon instead. Getting rid of them first is going to create a whole lot of “free-time” players, the ones who are going to create a “High Risk, High Reward” kind of situation here on the field……」
「I mean yeah, sure thing, the rewards here are bound to be great, but wouldn’t the risks associated with them be even greater?」
It is only a natural course of action. With each of the Colored Dragons being taken down, the number of the players converging onto the remaining Colored Dragons would increase as well. And taking the current situation into account, it was something that was bound to quickly become a double-edged sword: something that could give the players advantage against the Black Dragon Noirlind, but it could also give the “Wolfgang” Guild advantage over Siegwurm, the Heavenly Emperor.
What’s more, the members of the Anti-Noirlind faction possess a huge trump card here, the one called Skull Azuchi Castle. And seeing just how much of an edge the players received against the Red Dargon Red Howl with just increased Fire Resistance, this buff granting facility was bound to become a problem sooner rather than later. Not to mention that it was a fresh wind into the sails of the Anti-Noirlind supporters.
「Are you perhaps referring to Siegwurm who is right there?」
「And what would that mean, exactly?」
「–––––– Come here, oh Brave Hero!…… or something like that? I don’t know.」
