ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 457 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 457: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 34 Part 1
The weapon I am currently holding onto is called a “Reborn Legacy Weapon: Weissash’s Hundred-Legged Centipede Shiki Eight Zero Point Five Thousand”.
At the first glance this thing looks just like some really weird stick that is unlike anything that you have ever seen in this game. It is neither a club nor a cane, it’s much closer in design to a spear but it is not that either…… but if you really get down to it, this weapon is classified as a halberd.
Once I initially deployed it, I wasted almost ten whole minutes at inspecting this weapon and trying to figure out what it is exactly and what is it supposed to be doing (staring at it for three minutes, touching it for five minutes and the two minutes of doing things to it that are better left unspoken for the peace of my own sanity). …… And this might be a very strange thing to say about a weapon from the Era of the Gods or somewhere around that time, but this thing seems to be the latest model in the series. At least that is the feeling that I was getting here.
Aside from the basic materials, Break demanded a whole lot of rare ores for her to complete, but was that really something that was necessary for a weapon from the Era of the Gods? …… Weissash blacksmithing, on the other hand, only demanded the materials from the Giant Female Centipede and had an entirely different feeling to it than what Break presented me with.
…
………
……………
「Ooooh! Ooooh! It’s been a while you two, huh……? I was wondering if you were still alive or if maybe something finally done you in, you know……?」
「H-Hey now, Break! At this point in time I’m way too resistant to any danger out there, so where did you get the idea that something might have “done us in”!?」
「OGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO……」
「B-Break-Onee-chan……!? W-What’s wrong!? You look as though you’re about to faint!? And whoa……!? Foam! There’s foam and bubbles coming out of your mouth all of a sudden!?」
The…… thing that Weissash pulled out and presented to me was a little bit hard to describe here. What was that, a stick? Or maybe a metal brush? A broomstick with something similar to crab legs opening up and closing constantly? It was definitely difficult for me to pinpoint here.
「Alright, boy, now let me see those materials.」
「Coming right up!」
Hey, Break! You’d better snap out of it , too! Your precious Papa is right here! Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! Or something even worse is going to happen to you.
As I was starting to take out the materials that I was asked to procure from my inventory, Weissash started to brandish the strange metal-crab rod around, and as if in response to that the materials from the Female Giant Centipede started to flow in the air and move towards his location all on their own. This thing was starting to get weirder and weirder by the second.
「 Humans are just such a species. They can’t blow fire from their mouths. Their claws are rounded and dull. And once you lightly roast them, they scream as if they were about to die…… So in the end, both weapons and armor are just the means by which humans hope to get closer to the creatures that were born with those traits from the start.」
「Break? How are you feeling? Still with us?」
「Yes, I’m alive…… At least for now……」
Every time Weissash swings his metal—crab rod around, the portion of materials that I have procured flies forward and gets processed into something completely different all on its own, without anyone even touching said materials. Was that a skill? Some sort of ability? Or maybe magic?
What this strange crustacean rod was doing to my precious materials was pretty similar to what an eraser was doing to a piece of paper completely filled with text. It was erasing the current shape of the materials and changing them into something completely different. It’s as though the materials were being crushed or grinded, changed into smaller “screws” or shavings. After a moment or two when all of the materials were like that, it looked as though someone opened a bag of puzzles in the air and was going to assemble them just like that by themselves.
「But you see, this thing is quite the opposite. This device, or should we even call it a relic to make it simpler?」
「Eh? The opposite? What do you mean by that?」
「You see, lad, humans are humans, and beasts are beasts. That’s just the way it is. Beasts cannot become humans, and humans cannot become beasts by the same principle. However, when it comes to humans, with the creation of the right tools it is possible for them to come close to the beasts in terms of power. It is never going to be the same, but it will be closer, even if just a little bit. It is the way in which humans have always tried to defy the natural laws and order of things.」
From what I can understand, every blacksmith dreams of one day achieving the ultimate form of their craft, such as being able to forge weapons and armor out of single materials, or achieving the level of skill in which wood would play the substitute of iron and where mere stones or pebbles could take the place of jewels and precious stones. It is supposed to be the secret blacksmithing technique of the “Old Days”.
After a moment or two, there was something strange that was starting to form at the very tip of the metal-crab rod that Weissash was brandishing. It was some kind of liquid core, or should I say that it looked more like an organic engine? And one after another, the components orbiting around it were slowly being added to that engine, assembling into its final shape in the same way you would be kneading a lump of clay.
「Say, lad? You do know that there is more to a piece of equipment than just simply swinging it around like a madman, yes? This should be basic knowledge for a warrior. Weapons are tools, and each tool has the best and most optimal way in which it can be used. And this is the thing that makes the difference between a good warrior and the bad warrior: the ability to realize the best ways in which he can use the tools that he is given……」
「Yeah, it is exactly the way as you say, Big Bro.」
Legacy Weapons or Rebuild weapons have a certain peculiarity: they tend to inherit the characteristics of the materials that were used to enhance them. Think of it like with the case of Crystal Scorpion Gauntlets and the Crystal Pillars they are able to produce. Or their poison. There are certain things you can do with that and things that you cannot do with that, right? In the case of poison, it tends to work well on monsters and all sorts of organic matter, but is not all that good with machines and inorganic substances, correct?
