ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 460: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 37 Part 1
Animalia’s current job is set to the highest profession of the Which Doctor category, a sub-job that is called “Yin Yang Daishi”. She also decided to combine that with another class called “Warrior Soldier”, a newly discovered sub-class of the Monk job.
Originally it should not be possible to expect a dramatic enhancement of performance by placing an avant-garde job in a sub-job slot, especially the one that has various restrictions than when it was set as the main job. But a thing like that was not possible for Animalia, or at least not at the current moment. In fact, with some exceptions (such as Imron, where it is important to be a blacksmith first and everything else later), the mainstream consensus of this game is that the main or “active” jobs should be more or less combat oriented. Otherwise it’s not nearly as efficient as it could be.
However, this line of thinking is something that would normally only be limited to “healing” jobs and those that allow one to become a member of the production force. But in case of the “Buffing Support” or “Debuffing Support”, the same theory actually gets turned around on its head and reversed.
A half-baked fighting status is only half-strength, but if you continue to be like that, then you have to learn how to make due on the battlefield, which gives birth to some curious combinations and ways.
「 –––––– “Garden of Hunger”, “Collapse from Suffocation”.」
Thanks to the widespread buffs and debuffs distributed from the Skull Azuchi Castle, especially the ones regarding Stamina and Strength stats, the players grew more powerful than ever before. Because of that, the small dragons have been falling dead to the ground one after another at an astonishing pace, causing the players to gain more and more control of the battlefield.
「“Naked Drought”, “Wall of Poverty”, “Dantian Breathing”……」
At the current moment, Animalia is no longer the player that she used to be. There is not a single shred of her old debuffing self left in her. She is no longer a pure rear guard. Right now she specializes in supporting debuffs that allow her to weaken the enemies over the vast terrain, and then closing the distance and beating the everlasting shit out of those enemies with her fists. All thanks to the breathing techniques that allow her to quickly recover her own MP. .
Animalia’s current playstyle is to not weaken the enemies and then attack them by accident. It is to weaken them and then attack them with intent and purpose. It is a subtle difference, but it is also a playstyle that shines even more when there are large-scale battles being waged, involving a whole lot of players and even more enemies.
「The natural environment here was a habitat for many animals to live in! And I simply cannot overlook a monster that destroys such habitats and hurts my precious animals! So I’m sorry, but you are going down right here and right now!!!」
「FOOLS! YOU UTTER FOOLS! I’M GOING TO KILL YOU ALL RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE STANDING! YOU CAN TRY TO FIGHT ME, BUT IT’S ALL FUTILE!!!」
A large mouth of meat lumps and bones is opened, and something long pops out from there. Was that a tongue, perhaps? No, even if it doubles as that role, it’s a much more terrifying thing.
「At the tip of the tongue, is something there……? Whoa!? Its upper body!?」
「KIIIIIIHHH!!!」
「Guuuh……!! “Row of Wedges”!!」
Although via the process of level-down build Animalia managed to raise her own Vitality stat the point where she could be a member of the avant-garde to some extent, right now because of that sudden attack she was barely able to escape death. Animalia escaped death just barely, but still the snake-like upper portion of the White Dragon’s body managed to do quite a number on her. She grasped her staff in her hands and groaned in severe agony. She then started shaking vigorously to get rid of of the stun debuff that was placed on her God knows when.
At this point in time Animalia was still unable to use the “Hand of Tartarus”, a spell that can be well said to be synonymous with her own name. At the current moment Animalia’s only hope of surviving is to basically evade all the White Dragon’s incoming attacks and to not let herself get hit, not even once. And “Hand of Tartarus” would not be of much help here, since one of its demerits is that the caster needed to sacrifice almost all of their HP, which would leave Animalia pretty much immobile here.
「GUGEOH!?」
There was a tongue with a stake made out of light at its tip generated just above the White Dragon’s head. And in the next moment that same tongue stretched out towards the ground in pursuit of its victim.
Unlike the “Hand of Tartarus”, the effect of this spell is judged based on the MP of the caster and the Strength of the target. It is a nifty little thing to have when you are in a bind, but it is not something that you could expect to be all that useful, even against smaller targets such as the small White Dragon. At best, it can restrain the target for a couple of seconds, giving the caster a time to reposition or counterattack. At worst, it can be broken almost instantly without making any kind of difference to the opponent.
「GEBOH! GERORORORORORORO!!!!!!」
「Ugh……Attacking from point blank like that always seemed dirty to me……」
The large mouth is opened even wider, and then a small dragon with the characteristics of a Red Dragon is additionally produced and spit out from the inside of it. Animalia starts to think while spreading out a debuff after debuff, at the same gulping down MP recovery potions. She even lost count on how many of those she chugged down in just the past hour. And since her MP recovering potions were starting to run out, it was a good time to start thinking about switching to MP recovery via skills.
(Ugh…… I’m afraid I do not have what it takes to deal a decisive strike here……)
She doesn’t have nearly enough firepower like a certain Crystal Bomber or that other Bright Red monster that appeared on the field all of a sudden and completely out of nowhere. Come to think of it now, the nametag above that Red Monster seemed strangely familiar to her for some reason.
Part of the reason why Animalia is in such a predicament right now is because Seigwurm managed to steal the vast majority of the people that were fighting other dragons. But there is also another reason. It’s because the battle here was slowly starting to approach the half a day duration milestone. When you are constantly fighting something for so long, you tend to burn through all of your resources at an alarmingly fast pace. And restocking in a situation like that is more often than not out of options.
