ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 482 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 482: False Threatening Violence Device Part 1

So there we have it now. A confirmation that some players were surely waiting for the longest of time now: Shangri-La Frontier has firearms. Allow me to repeat that, so the reality could sink in better: you can use guns in this game. But for me it’s nothing new, actually. I mean, from the shape of the Legacy Weapons you could have sort of predicted that something like that would be the case here.

However, it is not the usual case with the guns in this game. Usually it would go like this: some player who by some miracle happened to locate a blacksmith with the title of “Grand Master” would make the absurd and unusual request for a firearm, going as far as providing or creating blueprints for the weapon, as well as gathering a whole bunch of rare and hard-to-come-by materials. Plus, I am sure that getting such an out-of-the-ordinary weapon like a firearm in this world would also cost an absurd amount of money. So you can say that in this game guns would have been something like a decoration for the best or the most dedicated of the players, a badge of pride for the absolute elite.

But here is the problem: the only Grand Master who would probably know how to craft firearms is Weissash, without a doubt. There is also Break right now, a freshly cooked Grand Master, but from my previous experiences with her I have come to realize that she has absolutely no idea what firearms are or what principles they seem to operate. And even if she knew what they were, I am sure she would still lean towards making standard weapons instead of firearms. A very twisted and chaotic version of “The pen is mightier than a sword”, perhaps……? That is exactly why even someone like me, who has connections to two Grand Masters, was as far from obtaining firearms the “normal” way as anyone else in this game at the current moment.

On the other hand, I do believe that there is a chance for one of the drop items from the Unique Monster Gravekeeper Weathermon to be a firearm of some sorts. However, this is only an assumption on my part, and the problem with this is that this battle is what you would call a limited event, so there is no fast and reliable method of farming this thing in order to find out if my assumptions are indeed correct.

As a matter of fact, the current level of civilizational advancement for the world of Shangri-La Frontier is that of a world where people would still prefer to kill one another using swords and spears, so something right before the Middle Ages or maybe just shortly after that. So I guess that in this world the only way for the players to obtain firearms would be via Legacy Weapons or excavating them from the ruins and facilities that were connected to the Era of the Gods, probably the only era advanced enough to have produced firearms for themselves.

So in other words, for as long as there are active vessels from the Era of the Gods somewhere in this world, there would always be a possibility, no matter how small, that they would have working and intact firearms somewhere on board. However, I never would have thought, even in my wildest dreams, that they would be just laying just like that inside some vending machines right in the tutorial area. It was just way too surreal.

「Hey, I just want to make sure, but…… Are those all Legacy Weapons?」

「Legacy…… Weapons……? Ahh, no, please wait just a moment………… Ahh, you mean the Devices, right? So if that’s your question, then I’m afraid that the answer here is a “No”. Those weapons are but low priced versions of their stronger counterparts. They do not possess any exceptional abilities and offer only basic firepower and functions. I’m really sorry if their appearance was a cause for confusion.」

「………… Yeah, look. I’m sorry as well, but…… What do you mean? Is there something else rather than Legacy Weapons? I don’t really get it. Could you please explain it in such a way that even a complete idiot would understand?」

「Those items are, in great nutshell, things in the production of which things such as Exceed Mechanism and various Active Controls were omitted purely for the sake of mass producing them. So I guess that is the most fundamental difference between them and those “Legacy Weapons” that the Next Generation Human Being is referring to.」

So, in other words, those things are just that? Just your regular-ass firearms? What you see is what you get? But still…… Maybe I should get a few of them just in case? Who knows? It might be a good investment for the future. Not to mention that maybe with a proper leveling up and upgrades they would unlock some sort of hidden potential? It’s always a possibility.

「Supplementary explanation: as it happens, the armaments utilized by all Conquest Dolls, this particular unit included, is a mass produced model as well. However, in case of the Conquest Dolls, only the “Exceed Charge” mechanisms of the weapons are being omitted. Therefore, the standard for the Conquest Doll’s weapons tend to be vastly different from that of regular firearms. That being said, there exists a possibility for manual use of said weapons.」

That’s right. When you get right down to it, firearms are just killing tools that are relatively simple and easy to use. You just have to point it towards anyone or anything you want to get shot and you pull the trigger. Even a braindead monkey could be easily taught how to do that. So there was no reason at all why the humanoid Conquest Doll with a bendable thumb and a set of five fingers on each hand would be unable to master using that as well.

「And just to clarify, are those things free of service as well?」

「No, I’m afraid not. Or at the very least, not quite. You see, you don’t pay for those things with money, but rather a virtual currency, a Score. And you accumulate Score by defeating various enemies scattered around this exact ship. That is the gist of it.」

Hmm, Virtual Currency? So it’s like, what? Micro Transactions or something like that? How do you even write it? Oh, like that? Ahh, so it’s not the real currency but the points you get in-game. Now I get it. Good. For a moment out there this game had me a little bit worried.

So…… You can buy those things with little farming, huh? Uhehehehe, it looks like I am in for a fun time with both farming and shopping that will follow afterwards.

Small handguns and shotguns are useless to me. It’s not that I cannot use them or make them work, but it’s just that they do not fit Sanraku’s current battle style all too well. Same with sniper rifles, really. I prefer to get up close and personal with my enemies rather than trying to take them out from afar. And since I prefer to get really close to my enemies, it is a whole lot more efficient to just slash at them with my swords rather than trying to play around with firearms.
