ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 482 Part 2
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 482: False Threatening Violence Device Part 2
Of course, some smaller firearms could fit my style of battle quite well, but…… Oh well, they are for sure not nearly powerful enough for me to prioritize them over my usual weapons. So that’s that. To be perfectly honest, there was no actual reason for me to use firearms in this game. I mean, if I want to have a sniper or a long-range fighter, it would be much more effective to just give some weapons to Saina and have her do the dirty work in my stead.
Then we have the good old and reliable assault rifles…… On one hand they can pack quite a punch, but on the other hand they actually occupy both of the user’s hands, which is a huge minus, especially for someone like myself. Like, when I was playing Cosmo Buster, my go to firearms were the ones that I could hold and fire without issue with only one hand. The demerit of such weapons is that they do not possess any special powers and characteristics, but having one hand free to do as you please with it is something that vastly offsets any demerits like the one mentioned above. It is surely something that cannot possibly be easily dismissed or be underestimated.
「Ideally, I would like to find a firearm that is both small enough to be handled with one hand and strong enough that it would pack enough of a punch like the two-handed guns would……」
I for one surely know that a gun like that exists. You can even say that it is something that is a staple for any game out there with the First Person Shooter elements, no matter if it is Survival Island or Cosmo Buster. In games like that you want to have a gun that is small and strong, especially in the very beginning when you do not have access to any stronger or unique weapons. The stronger the caliber the better.
「Say, Brave Fish? Of all the small guns out there, which one can be handed with only one hand and has relatively the largest caliber?」
「Hmm, if we get those criteria into consideration, then how about this weapon? Its effective range is about one hundred and fifty meters, the bullets that it fires are coated in mana for added penetration power and damage! Its name is “High Power Pistol –Aguakate–“!! And guess what!? It also comes with the added safety lock function, to prevent accidental fire against friendly members of the human race! It comes as a whooping cost of only two hundred and fifty thousand Score points!」
「That’s not cheap! It’s actually pretty high up there!」
No, let’s not dismiss everything before we get to know the exact situation that we are currently being in. I mean, sure, I have done some farming of the Techno Magi-Gels, but would that even be enough to get the required amount of Score? I get the feeling that my current score would be high, but not exactly out there yet. But it is still a possibility, so let’s not dismiss it right of the bat! However, I do get the feeling that the rifle is indeed well beyond my reach at the current moment……
「Well then, how about some trial shooting? That way you can actually see if you will like the item or not before actually having to buy it! But then again, you would need some actual shooting target to see how it operates in real combat situation……」
THUNK! There is a small box falling into the outlet at the bottom of one of the vending machines, just like a can of juice or soda would.
When I pulled the small box out of the outlet, it quickly turned into a myriad of particles of light, disappearing without a trace. Of course, the box itself may have disappeared, but it left something behind. It was a small and flat, simple white handgun. Honestly, it looked more like a lump of plastic molded into the shape of a gun rather than the actual weapon. Also, it feels as though it was a weapon made from a single part only, rather than an amalgamation of many different parts having different purposes.
However, here is the thing: we know for sure that this weapon is not a Legacy Weapon. Looking at it calmly, it is something that is pretty much an unknown category and factor. So, what do you do when you receive something that is unknown? You simply go and read the flavor text.
* B2 Civilian / Auxiliary Sub-Device “Aguacate”
Maximum Number of Bullets Held in Magazine: Ten
Magical Power Needed Per Bullet: Fifteen (One Hundred Fifty for the whole clip)
Auxiliary device originally developed and mass produced on board of the Leviathan-Class Ship. It functions as a firearm thanks to the ability of loading the mana particles directly into the device’s ammo clip.
Since the main purpose of this device is the self—defense of the ship’s inhabitants, its specs as well as actual battle performance are significantly lower than those of the military-grade weapons. However, if the attacker is a small monster and their pack is not that huge, even this weapon should be more than enough to fend off any potential threat.
This device operates on mana and fires mana-infused bullets towards the designated target. Thanks to being mana—coated, the type of damage that the enemy is inflicted with tends to be non—elemental in nature.
If the conflict manages to escalate to the moment when this weapon needs to be used, you can expect that the conflict is going to be resolved thanks to this weapon in a flash. But still, such tools of needless violence should never be used carelessly, and they should never be drawn onto another human being. After all, violence is never the answer, but only……
「Yeah, that’s about enough of flavor text reading, thank you very much……」
Who would have thought that a gun flavor text would include the sentences about violence not being the answer to one’s problems? It was certainly awkward and a little bit creepy, I won’t lie here.
However, I still think that this should be a genuine article, not some sort of air—soft model or anything else like that. At the very least it must have contained enough firepower to be able to reassure the people of the Era of the Gods about their safety.
Fumu, but the specifics about the mana particles…… Could it be that it was a weapon designed for Mages to use? Does that mean that muscle heads were forced to use something else or not use firearms at all? And please don’t tell me that it was impossible for them to use normal ammunition, because I’m never going to believe a bull crap like that.
「By design it looks more like a toy rather than an actual weapon…… But its weight and center of gravity seems to be telling a whole different story? So what’s the truth here, hmm?」
I then try to spin the gun in my hand, or try to gently throw it in the air and then catch it by the handle. It certainly feels a little bit strange compared to the genuine weapons, but maybe that’s just the difference in cognition in the game world.
But since this thing fires magic bullets, it means that the Techno Magi-Gels are going to be resistant to them, right?
「…… Oh well, not that it matters all that much.」
Even if it is a toy, I can make it work. I wanted power from this thing in the first place, not the absolute or killing power.
「It should be more than enough to pierce the walls or the floor. Oh, I know, Brave Fish? The technique to make firearms was something that was developed later on during the Era of the Gods, right? After all, the floor and the walls seem to be just your regular lumps of iron. But that’s not the case with this thing…… It’s not all that simple of a tool, right? There should be some very specific gimmick to it, right?」
「Fufu, ufufufufu…… Who would have thought that my very first visitor after so long is going to be so knowledgeable about so many things? Am I supposed to feel lucky? Or maybe unlucky here? This is really troubling, since I’m not getting nearly as many chances to explain things as I should be……」
Nice, I thought that the area where only small fries would come out was going to be rather boring and uninteresting, but it seems that there will be quite a few interesting ways for me to actually try and capture this labyrinth.
