ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 491 Part 2
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 491: Great Bunny Judgement Part 2
Emul started to mutter something under his nose, but both Ewel and I decided to just ignore it and carry on as if we had heard nothing. Besides, what is it here that Emul did not understand? It should be relatively easy to understand, right? It’s just that when I see someone whose style or way of conducting themselves resembles that of my own so closely, I just can’t hold myself back from beating the shit out of them and proving to them that they are but a phony and that I am the genuine article here! It’s as simple as that.
But there is no pause button in this game, so you can’t actually stop time in order to cool your head. Once certain gears are set into motion, they will just keep on turning and spinning and there is nothing you can do in order to stop them.
「Yeah, so what? You have a problem with that?」
「Hey there, if you have been dealt a bad hand, there is no one else that you can blame for that but yourself! And instead of bitching about it, you might as well try to make the most out of it!」
「Fuh…… For someone so petty you surely know how to say something cool from time to time!」
You utter fool! Who do you call petty!? We are practically the same, you and I! So if you say that I am petty, it means that you are petty as well! Get your facts straight!
「Thinking about it logically, no matter what you should be able to differentiate between fakes and genuine articles if you are to be dealing in certain products…… But you can’t really do something like that now, can you?」
「Guh!」
「Don’t you know that things such as technology are a true treasure? And wouldn’t powerful and useful things basically be a waste in the hands of the people who don’t know how to use those things and realize their true potential?」
The acquittal route is no longer possible, so what exactly should I do here for the sake of commutation…… That is, what can I do to possibly make the damage that Darunyata was about to receive as light as possible?
Also, I would really like to get that delinquent bunny to stop looking so smug and overconfident all the time! But it’s a really mysterious thing, that feeling I feel right now. It feels strangely similar to what I was feeling when I was fighting against Silvia and wanted to beat her at all cost……
「Hoo, hoo…… I can see that both of them are acting quite lively for some reason……」
「Edward—onii-chan! You make it sound as if they are getting along, but the truth couldn’t be further from that fact! At this point in time both of them are only keeping on going at it to see who is the superior one in here!」
Once more, both Ewel and I ignored Emul’s words. I know that, God Damn It! I do realize that! And believe me, I have been getting this really strange feeling of déjà vu for a while now! It’s that feeling that you get when you log into some sort of a multiplayer match, get queued up with someone at random and it turns out that this someone is a player of the exact same skill level as you are! You may fight together, so you will help each other out in the time of need, but that’s about it! Don’t count on anything more!!
We might be allies on the same team, but it is imperative that we establish who is the superior one and who is the inferior one here! And what better way to establish that than to just duke it out!? Or by comparing our KDA ratio! And don’t you even get me started on when you lose with the difference of only one kill! This is the most frustrating feeling in the entire world ever!
「If they want to be forgiven, then it is only natural that they should provide the proof that cleanses them of their sins! You know, not guilty unless proven guilty! At least that’s how we do things where I come from! So let’s hear them out at the very least!」
「It’s not all that simple! Just because you think you are in the right, it does not give you the right to do anything you please! And it doesn’t matter if you are doing it for someone else or even for your country’s sake!」
Kuh, he’s right on that front. However, my reasoning here is simple, and I stand by it all the same: the highest level of production jobs is equivalent to the national treasure class. Every single one of us makes mistakes, but does not mean that the punishment for those mistakes has to destroy your prospects for the future. If you want to punish someone, do so in a way that makes their talents useful for those who that someone harmed.
「You there, lads…… For the time being, why don’t you try to calm ourselves down a little bit?」
Not that it was the actual physical attack, but hearing that voice at that exact moment, both Ewel and I stop dead in our tracks, feeling as though a powerful blow was struck right in the middle of our stomachs. Is that the power of pure intimidation at work here?
「I understand where both of you lads come from and what you are saying here…… But aren’t you forgetting about the most important thing in here?」
「The most important thing……?」
「Which is what, exactly?」
What? What could it…… Is it some sort of a bribe? Nah, that’s not it. Couldn’t have been. But then…… the most important thing…… Hmm?
「Say, Darunyata?」
「Y-Yesh!? What ish it!?」
「We are operating here on the assumption that you are telling us the truth this whole time…… Because you wouldn’t dare to lie to us, now would you?」
「B-B-B-But of courshe! I-I-I would never even dare to lie to any of you!!!」
Having received a full-blown wave of intimidation coming from Vysache, poor Darunyata looked as though he was about to collapse at any moment now on the spot.
I have no idea what their relationship here may be, but the way I was seeing it, it looked pretty much like a corporate newbie being bullied by their superiors, or being pushed around by some nasty CEO…… Or even better, it felt like a poor foot soldier all of a sudden being shoved right in front of the Commanding General or some equally high figure of authority.
The current atmosphere also made it feel as though one wrong word in here could be more than enough for his head to be chopped off of his shoulders.
An absolute referee. Someone to whom none of us could possibly compare ourselves to. Someone who was a lawyer and a prosecutor at the same time. After Vysache was done speaking, it wa Ewel’s turn. He turned towards the cat and asked him, slowly but firmly.
「–––––– Why, how can you be so sure…… Go on and tell us.」
「Ah, euh, auh…… T-This is, you see, it’s because……」
No, don’t tell me…… You stupid cat, so there was a reason for this? What should I do here now? I don’t think that this guy actually has the courage necessary to come clean and spill the beans here. So how am I actually going to follow with this……?
「U-Umm, you see…… I-It’s because I…… I…… I’ve been putting it…… away…… in my pocket, that …… I-I’m most terribly sorry! So terribly sorry for that! B-B-B-But……!Y-Yes, but! However! T-The things that are contained inside of those amber crystals……! I-It’s just…… It’s just way too powerful and dangerous! I-I did that in the off case that the B-Bird Person could become a threat to peace and stability to our beloved Catzeria……!!!」
For a single moment out there, everyone present falls silent.
Ewel and myself just cast a long glance at one another, and then without saying a single word both of us just casually shrug our shoulders.
「「YOU SHOULD HAVe SAID SO RIGHT FROM THE START, YOU ASSHOLE!!! WANT ME TO BEAT THE EVER–LIVING SHIT OUT OF YOU!!!???」」
「Hyiiiiiihhhhhh!?」
So there was a reason for this thing to go down! And a pretty big one at that!!!
