ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 518: After a Puppet Show, a Music Show Right Away Part 1

In order for us to travel fast and efficiently, I have come up with a little neat trick that I have decided to name “Acceleration Mode”. In this mode I will store Saina away back inside of the Inventoria and will carry Emul in my arms. That way I can run forward at full speed without having to worry about any of my friends falling behind.

「Fufu. Fufufu…… Fufufuhahaha!!! Gaze upon this! Just look! This is what ultimate power looks like! With this little amulet that I have received from my caring family, the speed and pressure will no longer affect me in any way! Fuahahahahaha!!!」

「Yeah, you know how we tend to call that back where I’m from? Nepotism. And here we can see said nepotism in full swing. And you’re not even ashamed about it, which is ultimately making it worse!」

But it seems that he was speaking the truth here. Because ever since we started travelling at the accelerated pace, he not even once tried to barf all over me, or complained about this being a jet coaster ride or that he’s going numb from the G-Force affecting him way too much. And I mean, his current behavior surely is slightly annoying, but it’s a much better alternative for him going all teary-eyed and snort-nosed on me while relapsing between losing consciousness and snapping out of it all the time.

「Right then…… Ever since we started travelling we were using the position of the stars to get a hold of our position and correct the direction in which we are going, but I would surely like to have something else to go by if I could help it……」

For now it’s all good and all that, but what are we going to do once the stars disappear? It’s not like they are going to stay here just for our convenience. So it would be a good idea to actually talk about it right now, while we still can weigh our options.

「Hey, Saina? Got any bright ideas for us here? We could surely use that famous intelligence of yours right now, you know?」

「…… So far our course is more than ideal, Master. If there will ever be a need to correct it, I can always send you the coordinates from the inside of this here Inventoria.」

Yeah, yeah, tell me something that I don’t already know.

「But I must say, the altitude and the speed at which we are currently proceeding are quite fear-inducing indeed.」

Well, I mean…… At least at this altitude nothing is going to get in our way and there are hardly any monsters that would dare to attack us. I mean, as long as trees won’t start to fly in the air or some giant airborne predator decides to approach us, that is.

「Inclination: the distance remaining until the Office Doll Front…… two hundred meters.」

Oh, so it means that we are getting closer to our final destination, right? Well then, let’s see it…… Huh? We should be able to see it soon since we are so close, but there is actually…… nothing here? So what? Does that mean the actual place is located somewhere else? Like, maybe…… underground, or something like that?

Once we started to get really close towards our destination, the answer to my question was starting to become apparent.

「Ahh, the trees are making it increasingly harder to see anything, so I’m going to start coming down bit by bit, okay? That way we should not miss anything crucial.」

And just like that, with each passing meter the high and massive, crooked trees were drawing closer and closer. Judging by their sheer height and massiveness, it must have been that below their canopies we would hardly even get some rays of sunshine, but that’s something that’s beside the point for now. Setting my foot on the ground and coming to a stop, we could see that the trees were initially creating a sort of a wall around this area, and the further you went into it the more elevated the terrain was becoming, kind of like a spooky wooden staircase. So it would stand to reason that this wooden staircase would go on for a while, before it would eventually level with the top of the trees and stay that way. Or at least that’s what I think.

Needless to say, there is no way that such a thing would be created through natural means. But if we stop for a moment and consider things from the in-game perspective…… It certainly looked like something that Conquest Dolls could accomplish. I mean, they were originally created by the people capable of traversing the void of space, and their weaponry was all cutting-edge tech, so it would stand to reason that they also possessed some kind of oversized swords or saws that would have been able to cut the forest like that. And that they would possess no common sense or a sense of reason while they were doing their job. Yeah, sounds like Sigma alright.

Now, this gives birth to a certain question: what kind of gloomy gardener this place was hiring? Or rather, were they even hiring a gardener in the first place? Because based on the things that were surrounding us I was starting to highly doubt that.

「Here. Right this way.」

「Ooohhh…… Now this is something that I would call impressive.」

Before coming into this place I would have said that the Leviathan was the peak of Great Science-Fiction that this game had to offer, but this place was actually cutting it really close to snatching that title away from the Brave Fish…… Hmm, I see. Using the topography difference such as this, it would certainly be possible to create an entire building or complex of buildings that would be unable to be seen from the outside.

And it seems that this was the main characteristic that the Conquest Dolls were looking for when they discovered and remodeled this place: using the difference in terrain elevation in order to build what they wanted to build here while also keeping it hidden away from the prying eyes of outsiders…… Yeah, so no matter how you look at it, this was a more than adequate place where they could erect their office.

「No matter how you look at it, this place just drips the vibes of a secret hidden base…… And no matter the scale or the purpose of this thing, the little boy inside of my heart can’t help it but to feel excited beyond any measure!」

「Actually, the definition of a secret base may be very well suited here. And it would certainly not be a mistake to call this place as such. Especially since the very nature of the mission carried out inside of this facility is something that should remain hidden from the knowledge of the Next Generation Primitive Human Beings.」

Hmph…… So, is this something like one of those secret projects or operations run by the Library? No, let’s just forget about it for a moment and let the situation unfold without that much of a bias, shall we?
