ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 550: Is There Anything On Standby In Here? Part 1

For Saiga Rei, it was the first such time in her short life where she felt that the time period of twenty four hours was simultaneously going incredibly fast, but also incredibly slow. It was such a refreshing feeling and a new experience for her that she herself was at quite a loss what to exactly think about it.
「C-Clothes, I need to get some clothes ready…… A-Also, I need to make sure that my hair are in order…… Aaahhh, a-and make-up as well! I must make sure that my make-up is done properly, but not too obviously……!」
「Rei-chan, I know that you are excited to do this, but please, at least try to calm yourself down a little bit. Getting overly excited won’t help you here all that much, and it can only jeopardize all of your efforts thus far. Besides, no matter how you would like the moment to come sooner, you can’t change the fact that in this world one minute equals to sixty seconds, wouldn’t you agree?」
「A-Actually, I really would have liked it if one minute was over in like six seconds. That would be really great right about now……」
「Yeah, dreaming is a good thing, but some dreams will never come true, you know? So stop hoping for something that you know is not going to happen. Now listen here, Rei-chan, and listen well: try to calm down. I mean it. Stop for a moment. Then take a deep breath. Then exhale. And then take one more deep breath. It can work wonders, I guarantee you this.」
「B-But we only have one more day left to get everything ready! I don’t think I am going to be able to withstand this at this rate!」
No matter just how well prepared Rei thought she was, every single time when she went to do a double check just in case something was missing, something seemed to have been missing, or not done the way it should have been done.
There was also another rather important problem here, the fact that Rei could not really turn toward her mother or sisters for advice when it comes to accessories or manicure, because they were pretty much oblivious on that subject as well. And with Iwamaki-san being unable to help her in that particular field here, this situation was rather frustrating, to the point that Rei was even considering giving up on that subject entirely.
There was one day left until the promised date. One day to make absolutely sure that everything would click perfectly. But every time the word “date” (with confidence) would come up inside of Rei’s mind, her heart would start beating like crazy and it just would not stop. And she was more or less sure that because of that, she would be unlikely to catch any wink of sleep tonight.
「But you know, isn’t that actually a good thing for once? I must admit, such a development was mostly unexpected even for me, but we need to think of this situation as an opportunity unlike any other. An opportunity like that only comes once, so we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to waste it. So listen carefully: you have the advantage that you do not need to cut your hair. Your only problem is to do your make-up a little bit more carefully than you usually do.」
「…… I also think it would be better for me if it was of a better quality.」
「Okay, listen to me here for a moment, Rei-chan darling: when it comes to dating, no matter if the difference comes from age or social status, the whole thing can basically fold in on itself in an instant if the differences are not going to be balanced out to some extent. I am pretty much sure that our dear Rakuro-kun is a total newbie when it comes to dating, so I am sure that he is going to spend a maximum of thirty thousand yen…… Or you know what? Scratch that. I don’t think that his smooth shitty games-for brains is going to bother with his hair or buying new shoes, so let’s say that he is going to spend around ten thousand yen on this outing. Now then, Rei-chan, answer me this: what is the total cost of all those goods that you wanted to buy online just now?」
「…… Around one hundred twenty thousand yen, I think.」
「EXCUSE ME…………!?」
After that, for a short while Iwamaki-san’s voice could not be heard on the other side of the call.
「Umm…… Iwamaki-san?」
「…… You’d better cancel all of that, Rei-chan my darling. I’m telling you, it’s going to be a whole lot better for you that way. After all, you are going on a simple date, not some sort of a dance party meant for the higher echelon of society.」
「B-But still……」
「Rei-chan, you do realize that there are limits to how fashionable people are willing to be, right? And being forcibly overly-fashionable can only cause the people to start giving you sour looks and distance themselves from you. By the way, are you okay with switching this call to a video call for now? Do you think you could show me the clothes that you were going to wear?」
「Y-Yes, just one moment……」
At that point in time the sliding doors to Rei’s room opened.
「Rei, I have just checked it, but it looks like the hotels in this day and age does not provide its clients with proper methods of contraception.」
And then the sliding doors were closed silently.
「…… Huh? Did you say anything just now by any chance?」
「Please pay that no mind. It’s just a pesky Zashiki-Warashi, that’s all.」
「Zashiki-Warashi!? What the hell!?」
「Rei, I am going to warn both Mother and Grandfather in advance, so if you would like to stay there overnight, there should be little to no problem.」
「…… That Zashiki-Warashi surely seems to be very nosy. Also, it seems to be pretty well-versed in your current affairs.」
「I know that they do not mean any sort of harm by it, but sometimes my sisters can get WAY too overly enthusiastic about the idea of me enjoying my youth to the fullest. I’ll just need to have some serious talk with them in a short while……」
「…… Yeah, right. Just make sure that this youth of yours won’t be dyed too much in red, okay?」
When it comes to Rei, she does not usually talk about herself or her past all that much, but from the tone of her voice and the occasional faces she would make Iwamaki-san could pretty much guess that it was something that could be well and easily placed in the “It’s complicated” category. He would gladly learn some more about that, but since Rei’s trust in Iwamaki-san seemed to be so unwavering, he decided not to do that. The ratio of what he could possibly gain here versus what he could lose seemed to be way too uneven for him to consider taking a risk like that.
