ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 552 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 552: Freshly Reincarnated Supernova Part 1

I know that it is a real stretch to use such a term here, and that using the gaming terms in real life and be considered as kind of cringe, but at the current moment it would be no real exaggeration if we were to say that together with Saiga-san I have managed to form a temporary party. In other words, it’s perfectly reasonable that the outside parties would consider both of us to be a pair as well, not an individual plus individual who just happened to share a mutual goal and head towards the same location.

Of course, this goes without saying, but once we got onto the train, instead of looking for single opened seats we started looking for the one that would accommodate both of us sitting right next to one another. Because apparently that is what people who are regarded as a couple should be doing in a situation like that. Not that I would know from any of my previous experiences, since they were pretty much non-existent.

「Alright, here is the map of the entire event area. The general placement of the booths seems to be like this. Now, since the entrance is right here, I think that what we should do right off the bat is…… Hm? Saiga—san? Are you listening?」

「Y-Yesh, what ish it!? Y-Yes, I guess so, I think so, too! This place looks good. That place as well. Oh, and what about that place? What do you think?」

「Umm…… Saiga-san? With all due respect, but that place right there…… That’s actually the toilet. You didn’t notice?」

「Uguh!? R-Really now? I-I guess I was not paying that much attention as I thought I was.」

Umm, yeah, if there was ever a thing that could have been classified as a certified “Yikes” moment, it would have been that moment right here, without a shred of a doubt. I’m sorry to say that, Saiga-san, but that’s actually the truth.

And the worst thing is, that you have no one else to blame for that but yourself, Saiga-san.

Once we found a free double seat in one of the train’s cars we sat down there, Saiga—san from the window side and I from the isle’s side. Then I, thinking it was a good idea to plan our route, or attack path, in advance, took out my mobile device and found the sufficient tab in the web browser. Displaying the map of the entire JGE venue for both of us to see, I started to point my finger at various booths and make suggestions as to what things and attractions we could go and see. After a momentary lag Saiga-san joined me in that effort as well, but, well…… Yeah, the place she pointed out first and foremost was without any shred of a doubt, a toilet.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I do realize that toilets are important during events like that, but I don’t really think it’s necessary to actually include them in our route. We are not THAT desperate for an efficient attack strategy.

「N-No! I-I mean, this place is important to include, b-but that’s not about it! M-My hand just happened to slip! Yes, that’s right! It was just a slight misalignment! T-This is the place that I wanted to point out in the first place!」

「Umm? Let’s see, what do we have here…… Hmm~…… Huh? Is that it? Supernova?」

「Y-Yes, that’s right. Do you happen to know about it, Rakuro-kun?」

Hmm, if you are going to ask me whether or not I am familiar with the name itself, then the answer here would need to be: yes, I am somewhat familiar with it. But the fact that Supernova is one of the exhibitors during the JGE, it must mean one thing…… That there is going to be at least one shitty game there. Without a doubt. But now, I do wonder…… Royal is the company that was responsible for creating Bakumatsu Online. That’s one example. When it comes to the creators of Shit Chronicles Online, the Oberon Games, that company has already sunk so deep to the bottom of the ocean that there was no possible hope of them ever recovering from that financial fiasco and making a surprise comeback…… But Supernova? I think that I am familiar with some of their previous works, but what exactly was that? I can’t actually put my finger on it. …… Ah! Now I remember! Wasn’t that one of those other shitty games that was placed in space?

Yeah, but what was the title of that game? It was not Universe Storm, of that I am sure. Was it Cosmo Buster? No, that’s not it, either. Think, Rakuro, think! I am sure that the answer to your question is in there, somewhere! For sure, it was a company that was located overseas, and…… Ah! There! I remember it now!

「Oh, yeah! That Supernova! The guys who have created the Galaxy Sheet Labeler, right?」

When it comes to what kind of a game Galaxy Sheet Labeler was, it was certainly a shitty game, alright. Not to mention that it was the kind of a nihilistic shitty game that could only be enjoyed by someone possessing an immense amount of money and a whole lot of free time on their hands. From what I can remember, it was not all that great of a game, so imagine my surprise upon learning that this company was still afloat and alive.

「What kind of a game…… is that? I have never heard about it before.」

「Huh? Ahh, let’s see…… How should I put it……?」

Even though I have proclaimed that game to be a shitty game, it is really hard for me to honestly classify it as a shitty game. I could say here that it is a pretty nihilistic game for a very specific consumer, but that would actually be putting things in a really big nutshell. For starters, participating in the events is a really complicated matter because of a one and simple fact: that every single action and event taking place in this game takes place in real time. And I think that pretty much everyone realizes that a solution like that comes with a whole lot of problems all on its own.

In all honesty, this game tends to balance a really thin line between being a shitty game and being a perfectly normal game, but that is only because games like that tend to have its share of enthusiasts who enjoy that type of content and see absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, the player’s job does not end with just wandering through the void of space aimlessly. With the space being nothing but jet-black void, there is always the dissatisfied NPC crew that needs to be put in their place, there are always hostile alien lifeforms that are WAY too eager to pick up a fight with you, and even space pirates looking for the opportunity to earn so easy money really quick…… So while it was certainly not the easiest of places to be in, it was also certainly not boring. …… At least that’s my take on it.
