ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 556: Nostalgic Scenery Seen From the Wings of the Swallow’s Perspective Part 2
「Hmm, this thing here does not look half bad…… Oh wow, so soon!?」
SCRUD! And the enemies started to appear all over us, looking like puppets that a small child would make with what parts it had available at the current moment. However, if the key point here is a bad design, the enemies were all appearing in the five meter radius from us, making it look as if they were not going to let us get away that easily.
However, since this is a game, there are a whole lot of things that must be changed or adjusted in order for them to work properly. And the same principle was applied here as well.
「Seriously now!? So much recoil for something like that!?」
God damn it, how is this possible to miss at a point-blank range!? And what’s more, one shot, two shots, three shots…… Three shots aimed at the head, and all of them missed!? What the hell!? Aiming is so hard here, and we cannot exactly afford to wait and aim carefully…… Ah. So, that’s how it’s going to be?
「Is this going to be like that time when we were fishing inside of that wreckage!?」
I take action almost right away after that. I held out my hand in front of me as if I was trying to grasp the air that was in front of my face, even though I had no other weapon in that hand. Well, I had a controller in it, but that’s not the point. Then, my hand started to suck in the parts that were left after that defeated enemy, and the pieces of scrap that I was absorbing started to fill out the gauges displayed over the gun in my other hand, strengthening its statistics.
「For the time being, reinforcing this thing is the best thing that I can do here!」
「THREE BURST!!!」
「Whoa there!? What the hell!? What is this!?」
This gave me quite a fright…… But at least I now understand just how to do things here. It’s about saying what you want to do and then timing it just right.
BANG! BANG! BANG! With that nice sound the three bullets are fired from my gun and they travel forward, piercing the small fries and making them fall to the ground. Now, who wants to go next!?
「Kuh, but I must say that recoil is really something. And with a limited amount of bullets on me, it would be a better idea to conserve them just in case I need them later.
And that is to not even anticipate that the enemies in this game can lie in wait for you and set traps……. No, but rushing in at early stages is never a good thing, especially if you have no idea what’s coming or what’s the layout of the map. However, with enough patience and practice, Three Shot should be able to handle what’s about to come at me.
「What do you think about this situation, Rei-san!?」
「Umm, I think that it’s a little bit…… I mean, their numbers are……」
「Alright then! I’ll assist you a little bit!」
Since this is a tag team mode, helping one another out is essential to getting through this thing! So this means that while doing what I can, I can also look out for my partner and make sure that she is safe, and she can do the same for me!
「And here it is! The long-awaited Fatty enemy! A staple in games like that! It should have little HP, but it should be extremely powerful!」
「Ugh, it’s hard, as expected……!」
Pass! Pass! I don’t really think that we can hope to beat this thing just by shooting at it alone! And if I allow myself to get distracted by it, it will only allow the small fries to get closer to me! This thing is way more severe than I would have expected it to be!
「What’s this? Magnetic Repulsor?」
It turned out to be the action that brings all forms of scrap from my immediate surroundings towards me. Sadly, it was an action that dealt no damage to the enemies that were in their way, but oh well, what can you do? Some of it were bullets, and some of them turned out to just be the scrap metal that was used to strengthen my gun. Not a bad deal, if I do say so myself.
「Slug Bullet!」
Hyuh! The next shot fires a huge hole in the enemy, and it is the action that I could certainly feel! Ahh, I see it now. Maybe that’s the way in which I can deal with this guy……?
With this, a strategy chart gets formulated instantly in my head. Should I call this my specialty, or what?
「Rei-san! Can I ask you to take care of all of the small fries that might try to get in my way!? I’d really appreciate that!」
「T-Take care…… Y-Yes! Alright! Leave all of the small fries to me! I’ll make sure that none of it gets in your way!」
I did not honestly think that I would be such a relief to hear Rei-san say those words in real life as well, but I am glad that she said them with little to no hesitation on her part. I knew it, she truly is a reliable partner to have with you.
「SHOTGUN!!」
「Oh yeah! I somehow thought that this is what was coming!」
All of a sudden, the controller in my hands started to deform, changing into a weapon with a long barrel. Of course, this weapon was none other than the good old trusty shotgun, a weapon that no matter the time of the genre was considered to be one of the best things possible, no matter its shape, size or the function.
When it comes to the shotgun, it is a weapon that fires basic shots, and its slugs can be reloaded faster than in case of the normal firearms ………. It is not good to have so much strength in such a small package with so little drawbacks. It really is something else, that shotgun.
「……………」
「I-Is something the matter? You looked rather pale and shook for a moment……?」
「No, it’s nothing. It’s just that, I think I almost had a revelation of sorts in the middle of battle…… And that’s actually not good.」
SCRUD! One of the small fries tried to get close to me and attack, but the single shot from the shotgun was more than enough to communicate to it that it was actually a bad idea. Then almost right away I plunged my hand into the pile of scrap metal that was left and scavenged for any useful parts. Reload the shotgun, take aim with it, and fire once more. And with another small fry falling to the ground, a certain thought started to occur to me. It was the feeling of deja-vu that I was having not only in my head, but in my muscles as well.
What a certain thing should have been done, however…… What the hell is this feeling that keeps on nagging at me for a while now? It was so nostalgic and yet so alien, as if I have experienced something like this before. But such a thing is not possible, since I was mostly playing VR games in the past, not even touching Augmented Reality games for obvious reasons. So why? …… Swallow’s Nest is a company known from its Augmented Reality games, so they should have no history of actually dealing with VR content. Unless……
「Shotgun…… Hygery? CosBus? ShangriLa Frontier…… No, no! That’s not it!」
This oddly specific but at the same time exquisite use of the Ricocon…… This slight pressure and the feeling that something is always out there to target you no matter where you are or what you do…… No, don’t tell me…… There is just no way……!!
「Rakuro, -kun……? Watch out, it’s the boss! Rakuro-kun? Can you hear me!? Rakuro-kun!!」
Bird, Bird, Swallow, Nest, Successive, President ………….
