ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 558 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 558: Subjectivity Part 1
No, no way, there is just no way in hell that this is actually the case here, but wait, maybe, just maybe…… I really can’t believe that I am saying this. Is it really possible to make contact with that Trigger Happy Moron in a place like this? Could it be that someone like him was actually a decent human being? Not to slander anyone here, but looking at the way in which he was acting on that deserted island I was more than sure that he has a screw or two loose in his head, or that he is some problematic human being, or maybe even a criminal who is constantly at odds with the law. But even though I know that it is really a stretch to think like that, there is really no other way for me to explain this feeling I am having right now. However, I may have walked the same path on the vast road called Shitty Games, and by some miracles I have avoided going down the dark and grim path that he seemed to have followed.
「Uwah, no matter how you tend to look at it, this is one heck of a terrible hook to set for the unsuspecting gamers……」
「Huh? What are you talking about?」
「Rei-san, it’s quite simple. You might think that going all trigger happy on regular enemies is all fine and good, but that’s actually a behavior that is going to spell out your demise. For you see, that way, you are going to run out of the good and powerful ammo before you even get to the stage boss!」
「Huh? I think that I kind of get it what you are talking about, but at the same time I think that I might not actually get it at all……」
No, really now, from the very beginning I was thinking that something was not right in here. That something was rather suspicious. Although you could put this game in the rail shooter category to some extent, there is actually no upper limit to the number of bullets in the gun that you can carry. However, the fact that you can defeat the enemies simply by kicking and punching them also means that this game has a system that makes combat possible when the bullets run out. At the very least, this is my take on that matter. It remains to be seen whether or not it was correct.
But what does that even mean for me? In normal survival horrors with elements of shooting, if you are not careful with your ammo management you are quickly going to create a situation where you will be forced to deal with a boss character with nothing more but your bare fists or some sort of knife. And thinking about it now, I’m starting to see it: for some time now, the number of ammo packs that was being distributed around the map was becoming lower and lower!
Fuck my ass, that settles it! This is all the proof that I need! This game is definitely the work of that stupid assfuck Yashiro Bird’s company! There is a saying somewhere around this world that your taste in handling guns reflects your true character, but bullet management is even more important, god damn it all to hell! And this type of “gun—fun” is something that was right up Yashiro Bird’s alley!
「B-But! The ammo is decreasing, but the number of enemies appearing is steadily increasing!?」
「Less talking, more acting! Aim for the legs for now, Rei-san!」
Thinking carefully about everything that’s happened here from the very beginning, something was seriously wrong here from the very start. The stage and mode at which this demo can be played is an “Evacuation” type of battle mode. And the objective here should be for the players to eliminate all of the scrap monsters that approach them. But if that is the case here, then why is it that the defeated scrap monsters keep on appearing no matter how many of them we destroy? And how could they keep up with us? But that mystery was quickly unraveled the moment I stepped on the head of one of them and saw that it was using boosters mounted onto its legs in order to maintain a steady speed. So this means that if we simply leave them be, they would always follow and would not let us rest even for a moment.
On the other hand, if we don’t want to waste too much ammo, it’s an optimal strategy to break the enemies’ legs. That way, even if the enemies are not killed, they can crawl their way on the ground, and we can get away from them without that much effort in the first place. So remember; when in doubt, it’s always a good idea to just aim for the legs for the heck of it.
In. Other. Words. This. Means. More. Or. Less. That.
In this game, there is going to presumably be a whole lot of different kinds of weaponry at the players’ disposal. We have shotguns, rocket and grenade launchers, and more and more even more amazing ones. However, while it is a good thing that you get to have a choice in the armament matter, having way too many options can also turn out to be quite the disadvantage. At least if we want to consider things in the long run. The optimal solution is a gun type that consumes less bullets and saves us ammo by allowing us to break the enemies’ legs effectively and quickly. …… But that being said, only focusing on breaking the legs tend to get boring quite quickly, wouldn’t you agree? Then how about trying a slightly different approach here, one that is more suited for me from the times of the deserted island? Yes, the deserted island type of playstyle is going to fit in just fine here. And what would that be? Well, it’s all about utilizing the raw materials to our advantage!
「Rei-san! Please be on the lookout from now on! As soon as you see the enemy with a knife growing out of its body somewhere, let me know right away!」
「Ah! T-There! Right there……!!!」
「Thank you!」
So far, we have encountered about four basic types of scrap monsters. And while all of them look pretty much humanoid in form, each and every single type has its distinct characteristics that makes them unique in some way. One is the type that looks as if it was assembled with the use of randomly selected parts, and they can be dispatched using the three shot with a default gun. The second type is the one whose head looks like a stacked up totem pole, and this one can be easily defeated by using the shotgun. Then there are the fat scrap monsters, and those need to be defeated with the help of more than one shotgun blast or a strengthened special bullet from the enhanced default gun. And finally, we have the fourth type of scrap monsters: the melee-head scrap monsters, the ones that drop knife and bayonet parts when killed. And that about wraps it up. And if that’s the case, then I guess I don’t need to say anything more, right……?
