ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 563 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 563: Crimson Feathers Burning Bright Part 1

Basically, what happened right here is that one guy decided to take action before anyone else, and by pushing others around right from the get go he managed to create the kind of situation where he took the initiative from everyone else, because the moment everyone realized that the battle was on, one of them was already on a higher ground then the rest of the competition.

It’s a really strong tactic because you can basically dominate the other competitors relatively fast. But at the same it is a dangerous strategy, because you are basically making every other competitor your enemy. However, there are no things as such as absolutes in this world, and this strategy right here also happens to have a certain hole in it.

No matter how strong you are, if you can’t wrap the fight up quickly, the longer this is going to drag out the worse and worse your position is going to get. One cannot maintain the upper hand against many for long. Not without the appropriate strategy and means to carry the strategy out flawlessly.

But even though it was basically one against all the rest…… The one armed mecha seemed to be completely unfazed by this astonishing handicap. They just stood there in place, gazing at their enemy, but not taking any action. They must have been paralyzed with fear, or would not want to risk getting shot down in some sudden or gruesome way just like the one before them. That was all that the Crimson Mecha really needed.

Also, I get a feeling that the three Nephilims that were still up in the air have little to no idea how to properly operate their machines, but that wouldn’t be all that surprising since this was nothing more than a demo version…… But the other two seemed to behave like seasoned Nephilim Hollow players. Or at least someone who knew what they were doing.

The Crimson Nephilim springs to action once more, causing other frames to shake violently. However, the mechas in this game have a built-in mechanism that prevent sudden shocks and sways like that from interfering with the system, so it was more of a psychological attack than anything else. -called idling. Nephilim Hollow also has those systems that prevent the pilots from suffering from too much acceleration and sudden evasive moves, always keeping them at the center and so that they know what is going on at all times. This also applies to achieving great speeds, sometimes allowing the frame to achieve the maximum acceleration from the stationary state in under a few seconds.

In response to the Crimson one’s provocation, two other Nephilims jump forward in unison. It was supposed to be a combination attack of both lightweight and medium weight armaments made on a short distance. The assumption here must have been that the Crimson one would be unable to do anything in time, and that its armor would be unable to withstand a barrage of bullets of this intensity. …… At the same time the other three units were getting ready to attack while keeping their distance, in case they would have to follow up the attacks of the other two.

But it was at that time,

「Ooohhh!!!」

Here and there you could hear people leaking voices filled with exclamation. Even the lightweight mecha and medium gun mecha, which had been preceded by the same time, stop roughly at the same time. Even the other three units came to a full stop, as if affected by their “comrades”.

But no, seriously. I do understand why they would act like that. The remaining Crimson Nephilim has lost his arm, that is, its only means of attacking is only a beam chainsaw equipped with the remaining right arm.

Technically you can put as many weapons on your Nephilim as you want, as long as the loadout does not go above a certain threshold. However, allocating those weapons is an entirely different thing, with each frame having a specific number of weapon slots that can be filled at the given time. And it seems that the Crimson Nephilim still had some weapon that it could use up its sleeve. And this means that there is something else on him beside the chainsaw…… Which in turn means that he might as well have means of countering attacks on mid to long range as well.

And if indeed so, it would be foolish to charge right in, thinking that you have the advantage. Perhaps that was the conclusion that the other players reached at roughly the same time, and I would totally not blame them for thinking like that.

It is this line of thinking that was actually responsible for the decline of the Nephilim Hollow’s playerbase to such a great extent. Thinking too much about the intentions of the enemy can cause you to become hesitant, or create a lapse of judgement. A lapse of judgement that might as well be critical for the entire fight. And seeing that, the Crimson Nephilim sprung into action, actually realizing that this was the chance that it had been waiting for.

「Uwah, this thing might actually end up becoming some serious damage, let me tell you.」

「Is it really that amazing of a move? Or maybe so dangerous?」

「At first glance it might not seem special at all…… But it is one of those situations where you might actually die in a blink of an eye if you are not paying attention at all times.」

Strictly speaking, the kind of action we are talking about here is the “One action that creates an opening for a fatal blow” kind of scenario. However, since this is Nephilim Hollow, I would not really count on anything as flashy as that happening here anytime soon. Since this is a demo version of the sequel, I guess that something flashy would be in order here, like a multi-stage combo attack or something like that. Something that would convince those who are on the fence to buy the game right away……

Looking up, a chainsaw flies forward and manages to pierce through another Nephilim, going through it like a knife goes through butter, sending sparks and whirling loudly at the same time. And even if that Nephilim would try to escape, it would be of no use, for the chainsaw damage would continue to be dealt as the Crimson Nephilim would give chance for sure. So it managed to lock its opponent in a situation where it could do nothing but sit around and be destroyed. Normally a simple evasion or running away would be more than enough to be safe from a weapon like that, but not when high speed movements are being concerned.

「There are four enemy frames left in the game! One of them was destroyed, but there are still two close-range ones and two long distance ones!」

「Umm, what are they doing now? Are they splitting apart?」

「Yes, that’s right. I guess that their line of thinking is that by splitting into pairs now, they minimize the danger of being targeted if they were still separate units. They must probably be stalling for time, or so that they can showcase some more battle options. At least that’s what I think.」
