ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 567: The Afterglow of a Distant Regret Part 1
There was a moment of silence. For a moment out there we all looked as though we were unable to understand what Pencilgon just said. Even Rei-san’s expression was completely blank. Apparently even the emoji helm could not generate an emoji that could reflect her current state of mind. We were just sitting here, chewing and swallowing our food in complete silence……
「Umm, hello? Can I talk to the local authorities real quick?
「She may be talking about a game, but who knows if she does not mean real life? Could it be that this moment has finally come?」
「I feel like this is correct, but at the same time that it is really wrong…… Oh well, not that I really care all that much. But what I meant by the “coup” here is the “going against those currently in power”. Especially against those of the kingdom whose name I have forgotten.」
Certainly, when we talk about “countries” or “kingdoms” in regards to ShangriLa Frontier, we can only mean the nation that is being present on the surface of the Old Continent. At least that’s the only thing I can think of. Because as far as the New Continent is concerned, those guys over there have created small settlements and villages, but nothing as great as the country or a kingdom. Well, the fish people seem to be quite advanced as a race, but they are out of the equation for the current moment for obvious reasons.
「When it comes to the internal affairs of the Einvurs Kingdom, at least you are the one who is aware what is happening there at the current moment, am I right, Sanraku?」
「Hmm…… Well, yeah, that sounds about right.」
When it comes to the Einvurs Kingdom, at the current moment its current king should be the former first prince after he banished the former king into exile and tried to assassinate him, right? And as to what kind of king the former First Prince is…… he seems to be nothing like the former king, that’s for sure.」
And it just so happened that at the time when the assassination was to take place, my Sanraku came onto the stage on behalf of the Saint-chan and rescued both His Majesty the King and the Royal Princess. Then I also happened to beat the shit out of…… What was his name? I have completely forgotten at this point. But surely he was a knight, right? So I guess that would certainly make me the enemy of the current king and his administration, if not even worse.
「Now, let’s change the topic for a bit. Do you guys know that Thirdrema has been assaulted by the Raid Monster quite recently?」
「Yeah, I know. I have heard stories about it, at the very least.」
「Yes, same here.」
Yeah, let’s keep it a secret for now that I have managed to score myself a really close encounter with that raid monster and how it ended up for me. To say the least, we are now somewhat of close friends, the way it managed to decimate me. I mean, if you do not establish your bonds of friendship with the help of violence, then you are obviously doing something wrong here!
「It seems that the current King is also aware of the presence of this raid monster, and he happened to grow so annoyed with it that he ordered the local dukes to organize the armed outing against the beast. He also dismissed the Grand Duke of Thirdrema from his position, which directly violates at least several treaties that go back as far as the time when the Kingdom was originally established. Needless to say, it was not at all a wise decision and it was met with a whole lot of anger.」
「Yeah, somehow I am able to imagine that just fine.」
Now, one has to wonder, could it be that this development was also a direct result of the World Quest being advanced by the players? Or maybe it was some kind of independent Unique Scenario? It was honestly hard to say with some of those things. But one thing is for certain here: the world keeps on moving forward, no matter if we like it or not…… Change is always something that is inevitable, no matter how hard you wish to fight it. And as a result of those changes, the royal family of the Old Continent is a huge mess right about now. But perhaps now the former Duke of Thirdrema is going to aid the former king and the Princess in their struggles? You never know with those things.
「So to make long story short, I think that it is in our best interest to just stage a coup against the current king and help to bring back the former king onto the throne.」
「That’s what I’m getting at. So we players are to play Mercenaries on behalf of the old king, is that correct? We are to become a mere sellswords?」
Whoa there, does that mean that Pencilgton wishes to get the players involved in a currently ongoing power struggle? I would lie if I were to say that I was not finding that prospect even slightly interesting, but at the same time, since this is the Shangri-La Frontier we are talking about here, it is something that can be a cause for a whole lot of needless anxiety.
「………… So? What’s in this for you? Because surely you are not going to do this purely because of the goodness of your will, right? What’s your ulterior motive?」
「Hmm, I could say that I am not doing so I can later use the fact that the authorities are going to be grateful to us and that they will be in our debt for lifetime, but no one would believe me…… So for now let’s just say that I do this driven by “righteous indignation”.」
After saying that, Towa Amane further lowers the volume of her voice, as if she wanted to make absolutely sure that no one outside of our close circle would be able to hear what she was going to say next.
「I have heard that the After Scenario for the Gravekeeper Weathermon is going to take place in the basement of the royal castle.」
「Mubuh…… Seriously now?」
「The Gravekeeper…… Weathermon……」
It is most certainly a name that someone like me cannot possibly ignore…… Even if that avatar of mine was to stray off into a dark and desolate path and be bathed in blood, there is no way that this “Sanraku” is ever going to forget Gravekeeper Weathermon. It’s just like one my previous “Sanraku” is never going to be able to forget the name of the Demon Lord “Arthur Pencilgon”. So of course when she mentioned that name, she had my whole, undivided attention in an instant.

It was the very first Unique Monster that I managed to defeat after beginning my adventures in the world of Shangri-La Frontier. Also, after we defeated it there was no longer any more story quest related to it, so we just kind of assumed that it would mean that this Unique Monster could be rechallenged at a later date. And while this matter may not be so simple in the case of Siegwurm the Heavenly Emperor, with the Gravekeeper Weathermon we at least got the confirmation that he was gone for good. That is why we assumed that his scenario was completed and there would be nothing more to it. Well, it seems that we were being gravely mistaken.
「An After Scenario…… That being said…… Just what kind of a quest is it supposed to be?」
「Hhmm, I originally wanted to explain that sometime later, but oh well…… So, you remember one of the rewards for clearing the Gravekeeper Weathermon’s questline, right? That one that looks just like a small hair ornament in the shape of the flower petal?」
「Yeah, I guess?」
「You see, the thing is, it seems that this thing has its own hidden effect…… Apparently it is a location device of sorts. It is going to direct you towards a place that is related to Set-chan’s…… I mean, Setsuna of the Distant Past.」
It hasn’t even been a year since we have met, but for some reason the sound alone of this name seems to be really nostalgic for some reason. However, that description seems to be a little bit too vague for my liking.
「Instructions Unclear. More Specific Description Needed.」
「Yes, let’s see…… It was only until recently that I started to display new locations. And apparently one of those new locations is somewhere located towards the West of the New Continent.」
「To the West, huh…… I can only imagine that it won’t lead us towards anything pretty. It is going to be something incredibly dangerous for sure.」
