ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 577: We Are, the Gunball A Team!!! Part 1
At the current moment I honestly felt like the dystopian winds were blowing all over me, but that was not something that was all that worth occupying my thoughts at the current moment. What’s important here is that even though the android army was really pricey to upkeep, they were extremely efficient in what they were doing. And that’s what really counts.
However, even after the big Update, I guess that Galaxy Traveler is still Galaxy Traveler at its very core. So basically, there are not all that much changes going on when it comes to the root of the game itself. You just wander through space, stop by to collect resources, you leave one planet and venture into space to plunder some other planets some more…… Yeah, this is basically Galaxy Traveler in a nutshell.
「But there are no planets in the nearest vicinity that I could land on, huh? Only gas giants as much as the eye can see…… This solar system is really just one useless gas giant after another, huh……」
No matter how you look at it, this place seems like a lost solar system to me. I mean, I can generate enough electricity here thanks to converting the heat energy coming from the local sun, but it would be best to just do my business here and leave as fast as I can…… Yeah, let’s do just that.
「Hey, Sonar? Do we get any reaction in this sector? Any at all?」
「No, Captain, sir. No reactions whatsoever, sir.」
「Alright, then. Next, run a visual scan on that planet over there. I want to find out what’s in there, just in case.」
「Yes, sir. Understood, sir.」
「…… Alright, onto the next task at hand. Communicator, I want you to send a Type Three Encrypted message towards that planet. The contents of the message should read: “We are independent”.」
「Yes, sir. At once, sir.」
My memories of this game are all pretty vague at this point in time, so I don’t really have any certainty about this myself, but I have heard that when a large number of spaceships use their stealth systems all at once, their Stealth Systems tend to interfere with one another, resulting in the occasional “sways” from time to time.
At the current moment I am inclined to believe that the behavior of this gas giant is most unusual. Therefore I decided to send an encrypted message. It is a type of message that could be received by the other players thanks to some interception equipment and some other useful skills. However, before any of that could be used, I have received my answer alright. Right in front of my very eyes. Just as I thought, there was a stealth system at work here alright.
「Uwah, seriously now……?」
「OUR SENSORS ARE PICKING UP MANY HEAT SIGNATURES IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY. BASED ON THE READINGS OF OUR SENSORS, WE CAN ESTIMATE THAT ABOUT EIGHTY TRAVELING REACTORS IS CLOSING IN ON THIS LOCATION.」
「NOW INTERCEPTING AND DECIPHERING A TYPE THREE ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATIONS…… “WE ARE THE SUPREME ‘A FLEET’, AND IF YOU ARE WILLING TO COOPERATE WITH US, WE SHALL ALLOW THE SPACESHIP ‘RAKUROMARU THE THIRD’ TO NAVIGATE TOWARDS US AND JOIN US BEHIND THE ‘GREAT WALL’……」
Supreme Fleet…… The Great Wall…… Ahh, oh yeah, so that’s what this is all about. I think that this is the introduction of a Dark Hero System. You know, the archetype of a hero who commits all sorts of evil deeds in the name of the greater good, and an archetype who is convinced that the only way to fight evil is to use the evil the equal amount. Now, I wish I would be able to detect evil characters in other games as well, but I guess that it would not work on someone like Deepslaughter, someone who can hide her wicked nature as something similar to evil undertones. It’s a shame, really, but that’s the way it is, I’m afraid.
But even so, was it really necessary for them to come here with such a great fleet to begin with? It seems to me that multiple players are gathering in one spot, but if you look at the information supplemented by the transparent monitor, the same name is clearly displayed on the majority of the spacecraft present here. In other words, there is actually only one person who runs this seemingly large fleet…… Which can only mean one thing: we have gotten ourselves a whale player for sure.
「Now then, let’s see what the fuss is all about, shall we? I mean, it must be something really great if it managed to get the whale players so worked up, right……?」
Honestly speaking, I am still really afraid to plunge myself into a large-scale space battle with a high mortality rate right after getting back into the game after being absent from it for so long. Especially so since there is a flashy new event no sooner than when I decided to return, out of all the possible times. I wonder, whatever it is that I can do right now that will net me some good spoils, but without sticking out my neck too much?
「Rakuromaru the Third, for the time being follow the navigation and land us safely.」
「YES, SIR. UNDERSTOOD, SIR.」

It seems that this other guy took me for some kind of a noob player who does not even understand what is going on around him. But that is good, I can certainly use that to my advantage. I can get closer that way and try to wring some information out of this guy, asking what the purpose of this gathering here is and such. And thanks to that, I will be able to get my bearings and understand what exactly is going on here.
Apparently, at the current moment two players are involved in a major space battle. And as it would happen, one of those guys seemed to be a well—known mercenary in this part of the universe. And the other contestant was someone called “Grand Fleet of Futatsuoka”, who seemed to be one of the top whale players around here. So there you have it. As to the reason for why those two were at each other’s throats…… Well, it was something that everyone was not all too sure of.
Now, it is not all that unusual for mercenaries to get into any pick up fights with other players just for sport, but I think that there is something more behind that battle that was going on here. I mean, for a Mercenary to risk their entire belongings in picking up a fight with a whale, there has to be something more to it, don’t you think? Anyways, while the Mercenary was preparing himself for the decisive battle, he noticed that his opponent managed to form an alliance with yet another fleet (another whale player, from the looks of it) and it seems that those newly allied forces were about ready to perform a united strike. In other words, the poor Mercenary was about to face an onslaught from two directions at the same time. Now, what was he going to do? Was he to divide and conquer here? Or maybe he would choose a daredevil strategy and would simply go in, hoping to take out all of his opponents at the same time?
