ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 578: A Firepower Worthy of Fifty Thousand Yen or Above Part 1

「Well, alright then, since you are our last one participant, you don’t really have that much of a choice when it comes to this thing. So here, take this. Gracefully accept it and I’d better hear no complaints about it, understood?」

Ooohhh, a Gazelle, huh? That one animal that can run really fast through Savannah for its life while making all of those freaking bloody noises, huh? I mean, this is not that bad of an animal. Well, obviously I would have liked something more graceful or something faster, like a cheetah for example, but that’s not really bad once you get down to it. I mean, as long as it can outrun a lion and survive in the most hostile of environments, I have no problem with it. …… It would be really bad if I were to receive something sluggish and lethargic. Then I would have to protest for sure, and be really adamant about it no less.

This group of randomly assembled individuals is called the “Division Just Met”. Now, since we knew next to nothing about one another, and there was hardly any time to socialize and get to know one another, we have decided to opt for a far simpler and more efficient solution: we have decided to wear helmets with animal motifs so that it would make the identification process that much easier. And just like that, our group effectively turned into a Mercenary Unit complying of mechanical animals. No, I just can’t help it but to think that this is some one big irony at work here, since one of the children of our relatives was heavily into various animals as a form of hobby, so by extension I happened to learn quite a few interesting facts about them…… Or I would really like to say that. Now, there was one more question that needed to be asked here, but when I heard the words “That would be three thousand yen, thank you very much”, I felt like the peaceful atmosphere around this place was THIS close from quite literally shattering to pieces. I mean, come on! There are so many people in here, so many different units, and only this unit is going to actually charge me for being able to participate? I call bullshit on that!

「Now, you see, those helmets might seem plain and ordinary at first glance, but they are anything but that. There is actually a little secret to them. But you see, there is a little catch to that as well. …… Oftentimes battles do not go the way we want them to go, and you or your teammates might get captured by the enemy and be taken hostage. And also, since there were many people who were asking about this, I need to tell you this as well: the ships that you will be using here were prepared with prioritizing speed in mind over any other parameter. This means that while the ships have a pretty decent speed and acceleration, the same cannot be said about their armor or endurance in general. Oh, and one more thing that you need to remember: the weapons and ammo that those ships use are all from the pre-Update era, so you need to pay extra attention to not do anything too daredevil with those things. Lest you want to be in for a really bad time.

Nice, I like the sound of that. Did you hear that just now? Great offer, it’s practically a steal at this point! Surely, no one else but a guy like that would have been able to obtain a ship like that! And it is precisely because of that fact that he is going to demand some additional fee later on, mark my words! Oh, and let’s not forget that this offer surely is one hundred percent legit, totally not a scam! Now, there seemed to be people around here who took all of those instructions quite seriously, but there were also those who seemed to think that it was all one huge joke, saying things like: “What, seriously? So, does that mean we can only accelerate forward in those things? What about combat? Huh? That’s it?” …… Yeah, at this rate we might even want to ask the other side for permission when we are going to land on their ship and try to get rid of it, am I right? Or am I right here?

Apparently it seems that the person that this someone was calling to was none other than yours truly. And sure enough, once I turned around I saw a huge man wearing a helmet shaped like the head of a rhinoceros looking directly at me…… And whoa! This guy really was huge! I’m not sure about the exact height, but his avatar must have been at least two meters tall!

「It’s you, right? That one guy that everyone is talking about? The guy who requested for his ship to be a transport ship?」

「Well, yeah, I mean, if you put it that way…… Yes, that’s right. So, since you are asking me that, I guess that you are one of my squad mates? Because we have the team of five people, right?」

Honestly, this guy seemed like someone who would fancy some good old roleplay, therefore I have decided to answer him in kind, using a foul—mouthed roleplay rather than responding with proper honorifics and polite speech. As for the name of this guy…… Oh yeah, I almost forgot. His name was replaced by the name of the animal that his helmet was fashioned after. It was the other special effect of the helmet that we were all wearing right now. So trying to say his proper name right now would be nothing more but a wasted effort.

「You see, I tend to be the kind of player who uses extreme swings in order to get things done…… But the thing is, this is the kind of playstyle that I cannot accomplish purely on my own. Or rather, I need time to prepare to do it myself.」

「Aaahh, so this means that you want to hitch a ride, in other words? But are you really sure about this? After all, we cannot guarantee that we are going to reach our destination in one piece, you know? There is always a chance that we are going to be shot down and destroyed.」

「If that time really comes, then I’ll think about something. And if we do get shot down, this simply means that others will have to make up for our defeat, don’t you think?」
