ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 586: Take the Plunge, Make a Decision, and Somehow Witness the Shadow of a Bird Part 1
「Thank you so much, oh Machogamine-kun……」
After making a flurry of attacks I turn my back in a heroic way to the enemy and start to walk away, and the Battle Drone, whose front is shattered by a hail of raging bullets and lasers, slowly disappears into nothingness. Although the result was a short-term settlement, it is a fact that even a small amount of weapon violence, which could be erased by about one hundred players in under one minute, was carried out right about now without even thinking about it too much.
While seeing off Machogamine, who had burned his life to protect Python that couldn’t move because of her assigned role, with the rest of us still on high alert and on the lookout for more enemies, we looked at the three monster robots that had stopped functioning and fell to the ground, about ready to disappear. Then we turned around.
「I was saved out there by that wired connection……」
「I mean, if you stop to think about it now, isn’t that weird that monsters like that were packed so tightly in a place like this?」
「Yeah, I guess that it was pretty weird, but thanks to the specifics of this place and the size of the enemies, only Machogamine continued to be targeted by them. So all’s well that ends well, I guess?」
I don’t know about the exact concept behind it, but the shield that was in Machogamine’s possession only made him even greater target for all the enemies around here. It was honestly quite sad to witness. While the tank is collecting aggro from the enemies, the attacker bypasses and destroys the wired cables at the backs of the three mechanical monsters and that makes the battle come to an end…… Well, on paper it doesn’t sound that bad, but if you were to see it all go down in real time, it was honestly quite a massacre and utter disaster.
There is a danger sense in this game, a radar for disaster-prevention, like aliens and beasts. It should be installed in every ship, but you have to be constantly looking at it for possible threats, otherwise it will quickly become useless and invalidated. After all, there is nothing better when it comes to danger prevention than the human judgement when it comes to confirmation…… But no, for some reason I am still not convinced here. Because there are enemies in this game with stealth camouflage that can fool most conventional radars. Beasts like that are sometimes even more annoying than combat-specialized battleships, because you can’t target them that easily and before you take them down they can cause quite a bit of damage ot the players and their resources. But yes, aside from that…… It is honestly quite amazing that five players were able to hijack a Terraton-Class ship just like that. Yup. Talk about this thing being quite the achievement.
「…… Oh well, that may have been a little bit unfortunate, but at the very least we managed to accomplish what we were set out to do. Now, we might as well think how we are going to explain it to the owner of this ship that they are no longer the ones who are in charge here.」
「Hahahahahaha, you are truly continuing to exceed any expectations, you lot. It might be still the time for the truce that the gentlemen agreement set up, but let’s use that occasion to seize complete control over the Hexagonal Palace, shall we?」
According to the rules of the gentlemen agreement, no offensive action against players and NPCs is to be taken during the time of the truce, but there is no rule that prohibits any other actions. For example, you can repair the damage that’s been done to you, produce ammunition for the combat operations that will be performed the next day, take care of the NPCs mental state and comfort…… Basically, you are allowed to perform all of the work that you would normally perform behind the scenes during a time off.
At the current moment, the Hexagonal Palace is temporarily transferring ownership of the core central ship to our side thanks to us hijacking the whole unit. This is the result of the operation that Mister Mercenary managed to launch shortly before the beginning of today’s truce.
「Fufufu Rokkaku, you bastard, if you want to be the number one player in the entire Japan, you can’t conform to those who say that your habits are bad! You need to double down on them and do your thing! And if you are too lazy to change your stupid ways, then you have absolutely no right to complain when someone hijacks your ships and uses them for their own devices……!」
「Uwah……」
「Wolf, I’m afraid that from this point forward we might be balancing on the brink of the normal world and a world we must absolutely not dare to step into……」
「Yeah, and the Capitalism marches on, huh……?」
「…… So, anyways? Whatever are we going to do tomorrow? Mister Employer?」
「Hmm, tomorrow? Ahh, oh yes, that’s right. About tomorrow. Yes, that’s right, this is only the day two, after all. Also, I’ll need to be extra careful when sending messages to those assholes.」
Hmm, that’s…… Not something I expected to hear, to be honest. I wanted to hear something about remodeling the Hexagonal Palace’s interior system while we were in control of it…… But I guess it was simply not supposed to happen here. And I get it. After all, separating the structure of such a formation, and of Terraton-Class no less, is not an easy feat to accomplish. So even though I was itching for some grand-scale sabotage, it seems that I will have to keep on dreaming about it. But anyways, after this is all said and done, it seems that the scales of the war have been tipped ever so slightly, even though no major movement were being made. Before it was about even with a tremendous disadvantage towards the Mercenary, but now it was even with a slight advantage towards the Mercenary. Now it was only a matter of making necessary adjustments to the original plans. But wouldn’t it be safe to assume that this war was as good as won right about now?
…
………
……………
At that time, it was the most logical thing for us to assume. However, we were soon to find out just how wrong we were to assume something like that……
……………
………
…
「Uwaah…… Take a look at this, everyone! Witness the moving fortress of one hundred thousand yen or even more! Talk about the biggest waste of money that the Universe has ever witnessed!」」
「…… It’s that kind of scene that I do not wish to witness with my own eyes. But once seen, it is something that can never possibly be unseen.」
「But is this really worth a one hundred thousand yen? Something like this? Seriously?」
「This thing seems to be so awkward and hard to look at that I actually cannot take my eyes away from it.」
