ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 590: Momentary Scatter of Brilliance Part 1

–––––– This here is the recording of a certain communication log done between certain players in a certain game at a certain time.

「My, oh my. My, oh my. It seems that lately the economy is doing nothing else but exploding on a constant basis. But anyway, how are you doing? Life treating you good so far?」

「That damn King of Home Appliances, bastard surely outdid himself this time around…… But I see, now I get it. The fault lies entirely on our end, since we were in a rush to produce some results as soon as possible. But still…… It seems that he managed to enlist the help of some pesky little insects. And that they were even more troublesome than we could have imagined.」

「I honestly thought that they would be no bigger of a nuisance than a swat of nasty flies, but oh just how wrong we were to assume that. They turned out to work as hard as bees and their sting is as nasty as that of a wasp……」

「Yes, that is just what I was talking about. And because of that the result of their actions turned out to be completely unexpected. Well beyond our estimated predictions. As for the result of their actions and their imminent consequences…… In the near future, we might seem a trend that non-paying users might grow in importance. Not to mention that the Mercenaries might see way more employment than in the past. That is the reality we are going to be facing soon enough.」

「Thank you for your wise words full of insight. But I never would have thought that at the same time as the technology would advance, the culture would gradually start to degrade. It’s honestly kind of disturbing.」

「Now then…… Is it okay to assume that using the private communicators all the way through is going to net us a good, desired result?」

「Aahh…… Yeah, about that. Look, I am sorry, I really am. But you see, communicating through this method is actually…… a death sentence. Breast Meat.」

「Huh? What the hell are you talking about?」

「It’s not like there are some bigshots or great enemies listening in on this conversation, but it’s just that you are no good. Just that and only that. And with the core of your ship about to be crushed to atoms, why don’t you take it nice and easy while starting over from scratch? Who knows, it might do some good to you.」

「…… Okay, not that I get what the hell is going on here, but let me just tell you this: don’t you ever think that you have won this thing, you hear me? It is precisely at a moment like this that you think that you have already won and that no one is going to hurt you anymore, some people pop up straight out of nowhere and do just that. It only takes a moment to turn the win took for granted into a painful and humiliating defeat.」

「I shall take that into consideration, thank you very much. However, please do come and say this again to me once this final battle is over, if you are going to be still alive, that is. But for now, let’s see just what our dear visitors are capable of? Are they perhaps all bark and no bite? Or maybe they know full well how to use those fangs and claws of theirs? This will certainly going to be interesting……」

At this exact moment there was a sudden communication blackout ––––––

※ Contrary to some popular opinions, this conversation did not ended up in disagreement.

This place is a battlefield, in case that some people are still yet to realize that fact. A chaotic and never-ending pandemonium, a place where once you enter it, there is no hope for you to ever come back from. I also guess that it would be a pretty fitting description to call this battlefield Hell itself. The players can bet all their hopes, dreams and lives on trying to break through this pandemonium in their fighter ships and other small vessels like that, but the truth is that only the players like us, the ones equipped with Terraton-Class ships, can hope to break through and live to see another day. As for others…… Well, they are going to wake up back on Earth, without a doubt. We all knew that and we were certainly ready for there to be some sacrifices alongside the way, but……

「Did Fox kicked the bucket for real? I can’t see him here.」

Yes, that was probably it. We all wanted to believe that this was not the case, but I mean, the evidence was all there and working against us. Specifically, Fox’s name was no longer anywhere to be found in the user’s interface. It completely disappeared from the small column listing all current party members. What’s more, because of all of the interference from the raging battlefields the comm devices were down or jammed, so we could not call him and confirm his existence that way. But even so, even if we were to try and call him for hours upon hours, it would be still to no avail. The game system was pretty adamant and merciless about it. Fox was no longer with us. He was gone. It was a fact, a reality. And we had to accept that reality and be ready to move on without him.

「Fare thee well, Captain, fare thee well. Let us hope that we can meet up once more back on our beautiful and Blue respawn point.」

However, this place was far outside of something that we would be able to clear on our own, with our own abilities, I’m afraid. Compared to both the Hexagonal Palace and even the Queen’s Throne’s interior, the level and equipment of the NPCs here was on a completely different level. Basically, when it comes to this game, NPCs are something to be treated as an expendable. A consumable item in humanoid shape. They accumulate skills and experience points over time, just like we players tend to do. So if the NPCs here were so high level and with such good equipment, it is only a testament to this player’s prowess and skill in commanding his crew. After all, they managed to survive for so long in this empty void of space without dying, that their NPCs crew reach a completely new height.

They must be a real monster of a player. That G Cup Breast Meat fellow.

In the early stages of the assault I was somehow able to go through the battlefield without that much of a problem thanks to the offensive capabilities of my monster bike, but that state of affairs did not last long. The enemy AI turned out to be something capable of pseudo-learning about their enemies’ patterns, and soon after their attacks became way more precise and ferocious. They were even laying down traps ahead of time to make the advance even harder, and before I knew it my bike was officially out of commission and I was falling down.
