「…… Leaving aside the problem that making a statement like that would force this Unit to heavily doubt in the mental integrity of this Unit’s contracted Master, this Unit is positively sure that there is no such risk in here. If the damage of this degree done onto something so small would be enough to wake the Origin from its slumber, then the Next Generation Primitive Human beings would not be here in the first place. All life on this planet would have been eradicated a long time ago.」
Ahh, I see. Well, it’s good to know that much, at least.
「Alright then, I guess we are going to dig this fucker up and see what’s the big deal is.」
I then took out a pickaxe and lounged towards the blasted thing in order to start excavating it, while both Wimp and Emul gave me those kind of looks that seemed to be saying that they were more than sure that I have officially lost the last shreds of my sanity and just went full-blown mad. Well, jokes on you, because I’m very much sane here! And I really mean business here! Now, let’s see what this is all about! I was unable to find out anything about those things when I was fighting against the Great Red Devourer, but now it’s a whole different story! Alright then, here we go! Heave-ho! And heave-ho!!!

Oh shit, this thing is hard! Like…… Really hard! Extremely hard, even! No, like, seriously!? Are you kidding me!? This pickaxe should be made out of extremely rare materials of the highest possible grade! But even so, I was pretty much unable to make a single dent in this thing? Not even a scratch? Then how the hell am I supposed to even excavate this shit!?
「But, I’m not giving up! So what if it cannot be helped!? Right now my interest is piqued! I cannot help myself but to go right ahead and keep on digging until the deed is done!」
The only thing I can really do now is to hit this thing! And then hit it again! And again! And again! Just focus on hitting it repeatedly! And then hit it repeatedly some more! Just keep on working with that pickaxe, until its Durability levels are starting to go dangerously low!
However, no matter how hard I was striking the blasted thing, it was not denting. Not even one bit. What’s more, at this rate getting it to drop me something was becoming more and more unrealistic of a thing to do. Realizing that, I was about ready to give up on the idea of excavating this thing and just gave it one last swing with not even that much power behind it, when……
「Oh.」
「Ah」
「Hmm?」
There was a loud crushing sound, and contrary to what everyone were thinking a piece of the black and sturdy thing fell off from the whole rest and fell to the ground. It was something so unexpected that everyone could not possibly believe it the first moment, and then the eyes of everyone present, myself included, widened in surprise.
「Oh, ooohhh…… I don’t know if I just happened to dig enough with this pickaxe, or if it’s just that some part of it just seemed to be rotten and came off on its own…… But I guess that all in all we managed to get what we wanted! Fragment of Erebus, obtained!」
「Y-Yes, let’s just…… Let’s just leave it at that, shall we? It will be a whole lot better for everyone this way.」
Umm, yeah, but what the hell is this thing’s deal? Isn’t it WAY too sturdy for its own good? I mean, every other player would just leave things like that and gave it a rest, not even knowing that they might have been only a step away from achieving what they set out to do.
But anyways, let’s see what this item is all about. Because I get a feeling that it might just be some sort of an endgame-class item, something that should not come into player’s possession this early on. With all that being said, let’s just take a look at the flavor text to see what’s what……

The cells of the Black God are a ridicule counterpoint to those of the Gods of Light, and the five colored elements that become muddy and darkened over time prove to what God they have sworn their allegiance to.
Well, as far as flavor texts goes, this one is as edgy and dark as you might have expected it to be. And while it offers some lore information for sure, it’s really infuriating that it does not provide and useful piece of info that we could use at the current moment.
「W-What is this? What are we even supposed to do with this thing right here……?」
「Maybe it will serve some purpose later down the road? Like, we have obtained it too early when we were not supposed to obtain it? That kind of a thing?」
「Want to dig the rest of it all up!?」
In and out of itself it’s not all that bad of an idea, but I’m afraid that if I start to dig around here without stopping, I might actually get late for the “festival”. Besides, this thing looks to be only a split of some minor piece, anyways, so it should be okay to leave it alone for now. What’s more, it looks like my pickaxe won’t be able to handle any more abuse, so I wouldn’t be able to continue digging, anyways.
「Alright, since it is a really troublesome material to dig out, we are going to leave it at that. Besides, it’s just one piece, so it’s not like……」
「But there’s still more from where that came from.」

From now on, I think it would be beast to clean the hideout of all of those things, since it would be unwise to just leave them alone to their own devices like that. We are most definitely going to clean this place up, but not now. But rest assured, I’m not leaving it hanging!
「When I am going to have some free time, ok!?」
One sentence, and what power it can hold over people! But seriously, you should get yourself a hobby in here! Like cooking or, well, I don’t know…… If you have too much free time, you’ll want to dig a hole in the ground, so it would be better to spend your time in a much more productive way……! Like, picking up trash and making artistic installations out of them and so on. No, for that reason, don’t make a big hole like fossil excavation site!
「Oh, and there was also something like this stuck in here……」

「Understanding: it is most probably due to the great damage being dealt to my brain.」
So, it was not Sigma. But then who……

Perhaps Wimp managed to excavate something even more imposing than the Erebus shard.
And that other thing was also about half-excavated from the ground, and right now it was starting to crack up, becoming opened and about to release what was sealed inside of it.
「You moron, what the fuck did you dug up there!?」
「That’s the thing I told you was so dangerous and crazy! That thing, there’s something that’s alive in there!」
A huge “pupa” that would be 5 meters long, including the part that was probably buried, was about to emerge at the end of our lines of sight while we were busy screaming and shouting……!!!
