ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 648: ”Ivory” Likes Breeding Part 2
So, first thing first, if this was all going to succeed, we decided that all fifteen of us needs to work together. Then we slowly started to push forward through the fourth layer. And after about fifteen minutes of traversing a slightly mountainous field……

At that moment my reflexes triggered completely on their own. But instead of the mode “Spear Warhead Javelin” that specializes in one-shot penetration of larger targets, I chose the mode “Needle Warhead Needle” that specializes in quick rate of fire and increased amount of shots per bullet. So it was basically a genuine machine gun right now. Once fired, the gun makes a nice noise and pierces whatever it was that was trying to approach us while moving underground.

[No, it’s just that…… I felt as if something was trying to approach us, so I shot it on instinct. But I no longer feel its presence anymore.]

I wonder what was that, that strange presence? It felt somewhat nostalgic, but at the same time it felt pretty abominable…… I mean, it felt pretty much like the smaller version of that Mud Digger boss that I have fought all that time ago. It was a rare creature that was a chimera fusion of a shark, catfish, and some other terrestrial creatures, but this one felt more like a combination of a lizard, catfish, and eel. I wonder if its overall length was exceeding one meter? Or was it way smaller?
At first glance, it may have looked like a lizard, but it was only a coincidence that I managed to notice that it also possessed the sliminess peculiar to eels because it was trying to approach us in that natural snake like movement…… I also failed to notice it sooner because it had mud and fallen leaves all over its body, a sort of a natural camouflage.
Seriously, if my instincts did not kick in here, this little fella would have approached us completely unnoticed, and who knows who would that turn out in the end? It was then that I noticed something else. One more eel-lizard that was approaching us in an unusual way, starting to swell and grow in size just like a puffer fish that was on the verge of bursting into bloody shreds ——

[No, you see, I’m certain that a Volley Shot is something that involves bouncing the ball back in the air, but……]

Oh yeah, who would have thought? A small creature that blows itself up with enough power to snap trees in half and blow holes in the soil? Simply unheard of, god damn it!

[We need to reorganize the party! One team of five and one team of three will go and look for the bamboo shoots! The rest will take care of this thing!]
We noticed that all the “sounds” that shook the ground around us were thar of the explosive fish scurrying about, and after forming according teams we all started to run away in different places all according to Professor’s instructions.
If we stay banded together, it will be more probable that the explosive lizard-fish will get us. But by dispersing in different directions we bring that probability to a minimum. But there is also a probability that a stray bullet is going to fly your way regardless.
[Alright, listen up! Our group is as follows: me, Rei-san, Akitsu Akane…… and then Exploding Green Peas and Bansai-san!]

That’s why after hearing that the Exploding Green Pess Sis threw a glass bottle behind her. It certainly managed to hit one of the monsters alright, the one that was relentlessly chasing our team……

It was then that one of the Swimming Mines exploaded. And what followed was an even bigger explosion, most probably because the glass jar that she threw was not an explosive per se, but rather some chemical substance that enchanced the effects of explosives. As a rddult, we were almost caught up in an explosion that was four times bigger than the original one, and we were pushed forward with such great force that we almost all fell toI don’t know how many Swimming Mines got caught up in that blast, but for the time being none of them could be seen anywhere near us.
[Well, that was certainly one way to get away, huh……? Thanks for your hard work, everyone. So, what should we do from now on?]
[Hmm…… I’d like to go down to the second layer and look for information on the explosive fish in the Library, but … it’s not realistic because fast travel hasn’t been lifted in here for the time being. Let’s find bamboo shoots for the time being?]
[But what are we supposed to do here!? Shouldn’t we first want to root out all of the bomb fish before eventually trying to root out the bamboo shoots!?]

Somehow, those words held a huge convincing power. Like, I instantly agreed with them, the sheer thought to question that logic or oppose it not even budding inside of my mind.
