ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 650: Bamboo Floor Livestock Part 1
My honest opinion here: this whole floor was starting to become one huge hassle that was hardy worth the effort that we needed to put into it.
At the current moment we were all facing quite the dillemma here: either we could try to traverse the entire floor unarmed and try to fight occassional monsters we would come across with our bare hands, or we could arm ourselves to the teeth and brace ourselves to fend off hordes of monsters that would try to swarm us and blast us all away in a suicide bomb attack. And that is not even taking the eventual boss monster into account. Because then the same kind of problem would present itself to us: do we fight the boss with our bare hands? Or maybe we try to take it out with our weapons as soon as possible? I think that it would be better and safer to just try and use our hands, but then I bet that the boss monster would turn out to be an extremely sturdy one that would be hard to defeat with that exact method. So yeah, quite a hassle, indeed.
「What’s more, it seems those monsters around here possess the kind of intelligence that it closer to us humans, and the way in which they calculate the danger a Player may pose include both our equipment, skills and disposable items as well.」
「Want us to try and conduct another field test?」
Exploding Green Peas Sis, that’s awfully kind and generous of you, but only if you are willing to conduct all of the clean-up action yourself when this will be all over. Also, you don’t even know just how annoying those ell-lizards can be, especially in greater numbers, aren’t you?
At the current moment we were all sitting safely on top of the artificial mountain with our equipment promptly taken off, bu we could still hear the loud sounds of explosions coming from the distance. So this must mean that some other players were not so lucky and that they were still on the run from the Swimming Mines at this very moment. Hopefully they would soon learn the gimmick behind those things, otherwise they are going to have one hell of a nasty time.
「What are you going to do? Are we perhaps going to help them? Or do we just push forward and focus on the objective?」
「No, we are just going to leave those guys to their own fate. As things stand for the current moment, we have neither the time nor the resources to go and help others, especially if they cannot defend themselves properly…… So we are going to continue our search for the bamboo shoots. And just like Sanraku demonstrated not so long ago, those monsters seem to rely on echolocation to a certain extent, so maybe the screams and shouts of the other Players are going to divert their attention away from us. So while others are being busy with getting themselves blown to shreds, we can use that opportunity to ignore everything else and aim straight for the boss battle.」
「But isn’t that equal to basically abandoning your comrades to their fate? Not to mention, a group of five could be of use to the whole group sometimes later down the road.」
「I saw that the Professor’s group was on the move towards that other group. So it’s entirely plausible that the Professor’s group managed to realize what the gimmick of those monsters is and are now on their way to help those who are struggling.」
So, in other words, we are letting the rest of the group become a decoy while we are going to scout the area in search of the boss monster, right? No, but when all is said and done, the Swimming Mines are not the real problem here. They are hardly even what you would call a strong monster to begin with. Sure, it’s pretty nasty tactic that what basically acts like a suicide bomber can sneak up on you, but that’s about it. It still needs to detonate itself, and to that end it makes a whole lot of noise. So reacting to that should not be all that problematic, unless you are deaf or your reaction time is basically non-existent. But then you wouldn’t be here in the first place.
Oh well, in other words…… I guess that the poor “Library” at the current moment is quite literally sprinting through an open mine field. I pity those guys, but at the same time I would never even think about trading places with them. So thanks for all of your hard work out there guys, and please continue to give it your very best!
「Alright then. For the time being, let’s try to guess just what kind of boss monster are we going to be dealing with in here. Any ideas, Akitsu Akane?」
「Huh? Me? Umm…… Oh, I know! I think I got it! Panda bear! How about a Panda bear!? That sounds pretty accurate, wouldn’t you agree?」
「…… Akitsu Akane, sorry to burst your bubble like this, but bamboo and bamboo shoots are an entirely different things.」
「Huh? That’s actually news to me! Why didn’t anyone told me about this before?」
Speaking of bamboos, it seems that there was a bamboo spear user in Bakumatsu Online, if my memory serves me correctly. It was something quite memorable because even though it was the Bakumatsu period in this game, that particular player adapted the playstyle and the mannerism of a warrior from the stone age. Like a nomadic hunter sort of thing. But he did not managed to defeat any Rankers or make a great name for himself, mostly because he was quickly targeted by all the hyena campers and other scum like that, so he was eventually bullied into spawn hell and stopped playing altogether. But not before making sure that a whole lot of his bullies would fall down to Hell together with him. Because who said that you need to accept your fate and not try to rebel against it?
「As far as I can see, there seems to be no bamboo grove anywhere nearby. Maybe it is somewhere else? Like, on top of a different mountain?」
「You mean as if…… The bamboo shoots are serving as the crowning jewel of some other mountaintop out there?」
「But if it was indeed like that, wouldn’t that basically contradict what this picture is showing us? …… Because we can see in this picture that the background is not even close to what a summit of some mountaintop would look like. 」
「Maybe those bamboo shoots are located on top of something that wanders around in its inactive state? But now that the players are all here, this particular monster might go to some specific location and just wait there for us to find it?」
「Well, since this is all but a game and all that, it is most likely that this scenario is possible. After all, the Behemoth must have at least some levels of control over the monsters that infests its interior.」
