CHAPTER 119: EVERYTHING IS CONCLUDED

***VITOU’S POV***

I was absolutely speechless this entire time. From the moment my father and that man began discussing Naoko-san and I, I found myself unable to speak as some sort of chilling force kept me in place.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; this man, the most powerful man that I have ever came across, was so indulging of my father and calmly discussing the marriage of his sister like it was his typical Tuesday. Why was he doing all this when all he had to do it proclaim that Icefire Mountains are his and nobody would be able to say anything against him? Just from the fact that he was able to bind both Naoko-san and me without a ripple of power showing shows just how strong he is.

The most painful thing however was the look Naoko-san showed when the proclamation was made. I was sure she was on the verge of tears, but the look of disgust she shot at the three of us made it obvious that any bit of respect she may have held for us is long gone by now.

“Vitou dear, today we made history. Now that he has territory to his name he is bound to this country and we also got Naoko-chan. Now this is how you seal the deal, remember what you saw today and hopefully one day you will be able to do things like I did.”

I couldn’t deny that I was excited as I would be able to marry Naoko-san; after all, ever since I saw her that day in Kapitalia I was completely smitten. Not only was she strong, but her charm was stronger than she gave herself credit. There was something about her demeanor that makes it impossible to look away.

“Father I really don’t know what to say. But all this almost seems too good to be true.”

“Did you know that at the time the title of the Archduke was given to his ancestors the person denied all claim to land saying he does not want to be bound to any place and remain free. This is the biggest hold he had against our royal family since his status is already on par with the king. But now, all that has crumbled. He officially has to pay tax to us and answer our calls since he has territory in our kingdom.”

I could see his logic. It was true, but why would that person come out into the spotlight just for this reason. He could have lived freely wherever he wanted, even at those mountains and nobody would notice. Something didn’t feel right.

“I hope you are right father, but there is one big problem in all this; Naoko-san. From what I saw she already loathes us for doing this to her. You can bet that even if I do end up marrying her, you won’t be seeing a grandson anytime soon.”

“Don’t worry, I already have a plan for that. He said the only thing we can force her to do is the wedding ceremony and that is exactly what we will do. I do not wish to cross that person and as for Naoko-san, she should still be somewhat manageable. I just need to invest into training heroes a bit more. I don’t believe that she can handle all twelve of them.”

I know that my father is always scheming something, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to claim the throne from his elder brother. It is also thanks to his schemes that the kingdom was flourishing right now and that most of the people were not complaining though some have suffered under his schemes and it seems that Naoko-san will become one of those people.

“Father don’t push it too much, you saw her how she can become when she snaps. I don’t think we can control her that easily if that happens. Also always keep in mind that while she may be a noble here, her origins are special and should not be overlooked.”

“It’ll be fine. Just you wait.”

With that all discussions ended. Father left me alone in the room. The party was long over and I heaved a sigh. I hated that the outcome was as it was and yet again I was glad it turned out like this. She is invaluable to us and that man cannot be forgotten, both of them can be counted towards our national strength now.

“Vitou, I just saw Naoko-chan being carried out unconscious, what happened here?”

“Toriwa we just gained a powerful ally. I won’t have to worry about any national threats in the future. As for Naoko-san, I will leave her in your care for the time being, although it will not be official. But do look out for her, also report to me if she grows stronger or does something in the next few months.”

“I can do that, but I won’t be able to tell you much about her strength. Status is a secret after all and her level does not represent her true power. Don’t forget that she did go against us before and put up quite the fight despite the level difference. I know you limited your power in that match just like I did, but the way she dealt with both of us shouldn’t have been possible for someone with a level of fifty something.”

He did have a point. Thanks to Daisuke, I did know her current status and the sheer number of stat points she had already rivaled someone three times her level. Only heroes have a chance to rival her if they work extremely hard and gain twenty or thirty levels. Sadly, it would only be in a single area. I don’t know what she did in her past life or who she met to gain such power but it should not be left unattended.

“Either way, keep me updated. Throw in your estimate if you are not sure I trust your gut, it saved us multiple times in the past. I will be leaving as well. It was good to talk to you again Toriwa.”

I left the room and joined my father on the way back to the ship. I knew this ‘vacation’ is over now that he got what he wanted. After all this was the sole reason we left the capital city.

***ARCHDUKE’S POV***

“You are beyond reckless to even think about swallowing my mana. Do you have a death wish? You should thank the heavens for letting you develop poison resistance. Do you know how much trouble you would cause if you died right there? Well, kind off died. Everything would be in vain, well this way things will be easier since you can’t resist now.”

I placed Nao-chan on her bed and cast a rather nasty magic on her. Sadly it was necessary to ensure things go according to my plan. However once she opens my present, she will be thankful and her promotion to A-rank will be smooth.

“When you wake up you will hate me, but once you have lived for long enough you will understand my actions today.”

I left the present and a note behind before leaving her room and moving to my new territory. Those mountains will soon become the place to be at, and only selected ones will be able to go there. I just plan on going there first and claiming all the benefits.
