CHAPTER 125: CREATING A SECRET BASE

I moved all my belongings to the cavern where I first fought the Goblin King. To make this place livable I took two whole days. Since the entire place was closed off I needed to get rid of the stale air and take care of some monsters that have spawned naturally. Much to my dismay most of those monsters were rock spiders.

The big room where the Goblin King was acted like a central area so I invested most of my time cleaning it up and slowly turning it into my personal lair where I planned on being until the guys from my clan arrive in Orzak. While I waited for them, I had no plans on training as I told the guild master. This was my vacation and I planned on enjoying it.

Byakko was hunting and every monster that he killed that was weaker than a general C-rank monster was sent to the guild while others were delivered to me where I would just stuff them in my inventory and then continue sleeping and daydreaming.

This went on for two days, before I got bored of doing nothing. To pass the time I made the elementals create a simple stove and took out my cooking utensils to cook the food that was lying in my inventory. Since I had the time I should hone this skill and prepare as much food as I can. Since time doesn’t flow while things are in the inventory I can store even boiling hot soups and have them served whenever still boiling hot.

For the next week I was in a cooking frenzy. I burned through my stash of ingredients with lightning speed. I was making appetizers, main course meals, soups, salads, dressings, side dishes and desserts. I estimated that once I cook all my food I would be good for the next three years.

Halfway through my stack of ingredients, I ran out of bowls and pots to hold all that food so with the help of elementals I tried and made my own bowls and pots. They were ugly and slightly deformed but they served their purposed. Sadly I would not be able to sell them. Maybe if I put in more effort and figure out the exact way to make ceramics I can turn it into a great business opportunity.

On the seventh day I got a message I thought I would never get

[CLASS: Chef has been unlocked.]
[SKILL: Cooking has been acquired.]

I was not surprised about the class, but the skill. I have already done my fair share of cooking, but for whatever reason it never appeared. I thought that such skill simply didn’t exist in this world, but since it has appeared only now even with all the boots I have gaining skill proficiency it must have some amazing effect or it wouldn’t be so hard to acquire it.

Upon inspecting it I only felt disappointment. This skill really is useless, I thought I would be able to make some food with special effects, but it only makes it more delicious. Meh, it will probably just correct some mistakes I make while cooking.

According to my expectations there is still about three weeks before my guests arrive. I could not cook anymore since I was getting low on raw ingredients and I didn’t want to back to do shopping so I decided to go for a change of plans.

I began clearing out the rest of the cavern while making a map of it. Since I thought about making it my personal lair and headquarters I might as well learn everything about this mountain cavern system. I don’t want to get lost one day in my own area so I decided to draw out the entire cave system.

I was glad I got a new skill, but aside for now I don’t think I will be using it much in the future. I was the type that simply went in and hoped for the best. Anyways for now I will raise this skill.
Since I have spent so much time cooking and not gaining a skill I forgot just how amazing the title [Work-out Maniac] and [Tabula Rasa] skill were. Seeing the skill levels going up so quick I forgot about everything else and just focused on mapping out the area wanting to get max level on the skill.

I have long finished mapping out the cavern, so I also added the surrounding areas. One thing I noticed while raising the skill level was that whenever I came across a new area I was able to notice details with much ease and note them down on my map which made it more intricate and detailed. This kind of map that I made would be sold for quite the money to the guild.

And now I have gained a new skill. This one seemed much more useful than the previous one since it didn’t sound like it would be so time consuming.

I stared at the explanation; only 1min and a three hour cooldown what kind of ridiculous ratio was that. It was only after a bit that I realized how broken this skill was. It said ‘complete’ map which means that every hidden room and area will be reveal as well. With this treasure hunting will become a piece of cake.

Feeling the greed for finding treasure well up inside me I ran some distance away and activated my skill. Hidden areas and rooms, I will find you and all treasure hidden inside will be mine!

***NINO’S POV***

“Uncle, lately I had a feeling that Naoko-san had changed.”

“Her charm has grown so much lately. I am sure she will be a wonderful noble. Even I wouldn’t mind chasing after her if I wasn’t so old.”

“No, I don’t mean that, also gross. I mean she gives me the vibe that she no longer wants to improve her rank at the guild. Just up until recently she was going all out to rank up then all of a sudden she became dead set on not doing anything anymore.”

At first I thought she was only going through a phase or something. Naoko-san was someone that didn’t make much sense to me among the humans. Even heroes seemed more predictable than her. But seeing her devastated look every time she gained more contribution I felt like I was missing a piece of information that would explain all this.

“Eh, seriously? I never noticed. Well whatever the reason I am sure she will become strong soon enough. She seems to be doing something big. I overheard a lot of travelers and adventurers saying they heard terrifying sounds in the forests around Orzak. They described it as if the earth was shattering and those brave enough that decided to check it out only found freshly dug out dirt. When digging deeper they discovered never seen before caves and ditches.”

“But what does that have to do with Naoko-san?”

“Can’t you see, she must be the one digging all that and creating those places? I was skeptical about her excuse of training since I couldn’t find out anything at first, but now I realize why she had to leave the town to train. She really would have destroyed Orzak if she failed her magic. Anyways don’t worry about her, she will be fine.”

I stared at my uncle with a puzzled expression. Despite what he said I still couldn’t get my answer as to why she was so reluctant to rank up. I left the guild master’s room and went back to work.
