CHAPTER 134: THE OGRE VILLAGE
“We’re here, this village appeared three days ago and until we destroy the boss monster it will not disappear. The gods sure do enjoy thrilling events to prepare something like this for us.”
I frowned upon hearing the way Hii-chan spoke. These so-called gods were probably drinking and betting among themselves who would have the most kills since they made the test like this. It was sickening to think they would do this all this, even endanger other residents all for their amusement. This is unforgivable, and that is even without my prejudice about them, since they wanted to eliminate me.
“So what are you planning to do? How do we deal with them? Do you guys already have a strategy for when the boss monster appears or do we just storm in and rampage around?”
“We must meet with the other heroes first and then we will decide. I’m sure you’re aware, but ogres are quite strong and their attack can easily kill you if you are careless. That is why we should try and avoid taking on a lot of enemies at once.”
“Maeda-san, your help will be crucial since you are the only one that can use Dark Magic proficiently. With that we can be safe even if we take on more than five at once.”
How uncreative, taking on monsters head on and risking lives when there is a much easier way to deal with all this. Ogres can’t swim because of their heavy and metal-like bones. That is why using water will be the best way to deal with them, especially since most of the have an affinity with fire. None of the heroes here are weak since they have been travelling and fighting for a year, but to not make use of the monsters’ weakness is stupid in my opinion.
“Okay, so where is the other party? I thought they would be here already since they were scouting the area.”
“They’ll be here soon enough. Anyways, we need to take out as many ogres as we can before the boss monster arrives. If we don’t, fighting will become that much harder later on once the boss monster calls upon the rest of the ogres in the village to join in on the fight against us.”
With that being said, they started discussing different things to do once they know more information from the scouting team. At first I was interested in what they might come up with, but soon lost focus. Honestly, I was disappointed. It felt like all of them were relying on their power to defeat the enemies and none of them bothered to research the real weaknesses of monsters and how to use that.
When the scout party joined us and gave the estimate number of about two hundred enemies everyone became worried. Such a number didn’t feel that threatening to me. Aside from me, only Nakamura-kun and Ishikawa-kun didn’t feel nervous. I decided to step in once their discussions came to a standstill.
“If you are so worried about their number I can enter and lower that number for you. I mean, ogres are strong, but most of them are extremely stupid and single-minded. They will often fall for even the most obvious traps.”
“As if, you may have monstrous reputation, but even you can’t go against all those monsters alone. I heard from some adventurers that your stats at LV1 were even lower than the newborn’s. Even if you reached LV100 you could never compare with someone that had base stats of 100 at mere LV1.”
I looked at the person speaking. So far I have never talked with him before as he was part of the scouting group. I don’t know how he got Nord-san and his companions to talk about my status, but he shouldn’t be quick to jump to conclusions.
“I don’t see the problem that you have with me, but since you think I can’t deal with the ogres how about you make a bet with me? If I take out more than half of the ogres present in that village you will have to give me an Epic-ranked item.”
I heard several people jump in surprise. An Epic-ranked item is not something that can easily be found lying around. The armor set I got from the tournament was only presented because the King was certain Vitou would be the one to win it. Me taking it away from him is a big loss to them.
“If you lose the bet you will also have to give me one. I know you are in possession of that armor. I look forward to wearing it.”
“Just let me say, I don’t want you whining later on how I was acting unfair, cowardly, and shameless, disgusting on in any way cheating. Are we clear?”
“Pff, don’t mock me. I will let you off at once if you back away now and apologize for being so preposterous.”
I just smiled at his provocation and moved a bit further away towards the village. Since they couldn’t swim all I had to do is drown them. I chanted my incantation and called upon earth and water elementals. Since there was neither a lake or a river anywhere near here I simply had them create one.
I made a deep ditch over a hundred meters in diameter and with the help of water elementals slowly had them fill it up. In the meantime I also added an earth layer on top of the ditch to hide the trap and went inside the village.
Thanks to the bet I made nobody was interfering with me and I could rampage all I wanted inside. I stood in the middle of the village and yelled out from the top of my lungs.
“COME OUT YOU PEA-BRAINED BRAWLERS. THIS QUEEN HAS A BET RIDING ON YOU.”
The voice carried out far and soon several ogres were running after me. I took out Sapphire and slashed the ogres to make sure they will stay really angry with me.
As I was rampaging around the village more and more ogres began running after me trying to kill me. Ten became twenty, twenty became fifty and by the time I was out of village bounds a whole horde was following after me trying to squash me with their bats, swords, hammers and clubs. They didn’t care that I was leading them away from the village; they only wanted to get rid of me.
I ran across the trap and once all of them were over the trap area I simply had earth elementals collapse to top layer of the trap and all of them ended up falling down into a deep lake. To make sure none of them gets away I emptied the entire volume of water that was stored within the sword and then recreated the lid and waited.
I looked at the stunned faces of heroes watching all this happening and the enraged face of the one I made the bet with. I didn’t say anything at all, I only waited.
