CHAPTER 221: TIREMIA

“Thank you for your patronage. I hope you have safe travel.”

That was the last guest that visited the inn. Marc just brought news that we’re allowed to pass through, which meant that the ‘Lost Inn’ would be stopping its services. I was glad and sad at the same time. I was exhausted, but the money I made was quite satisfying. I earned 300 gold in the past four days. The food problem was solved by purchasing from merchants passing through. I knew that I was paying more than the market value, but I was really in a pinch.

“I’ll be ready in a minute, I really want to get out of here and head on.”

Just like before I called upon fog and used it to place the inn inside the inventory. Truly a cheat skill that shouldn’t be exploited by others. We made sure to pass the border before I let the fog clear out.

We flew southwards from that day without any delays. I was really excited to see the capital because it was located on the coast. It wasn’t the first time that I will be seeing the sea, but from what I heard, Tiremia is supposed to have a tropical climate and its beaches are really pretty. I couldn’t help but imagine tropical paradises like the ones from Earth.

After another week on the road we finally came across the sea. I did notice a slight change in temperature, but there wasn’t any drastic change. It is not like you would need an AC or fans to endure it. It was warm, but not hot.

“How do you call this climate tropical? At most I would say it is moderated, just slightly. This is not what I had in mind. I was thinking high temperatures with more moisture in the air than in the sea. I want lagoons and cocktails!”

I was screaming at Vitou who was the first one to describe Tiremia. And to make things better Taichi and Daisuke were completely on my side also complaining to him.

“That is horrible, who would want to live like that? This is ideal. Temperature almost never goes below freezing and in summer thanks to the sea, it never gets as bad as in continental parts of the continent.”

Meh, at least there are beaches. I will definitely go for a swim, which will most certainly happen. I got here over a year ago and still haven’t gone for a proper swim in the sea. I don’t count that time I was attacked while staying with Triton.

With my mind firmly resolved we entered the area of the capital and I was immediately stunned. The entire city was built out of stone that reminded me of marble. The entire place looked like something you would expect to see in Greece, or somewhere like that.

“Welcome back, Your Highness, esteemed guests. I have been told to inform you that you are to immediately head towards the castle. The King will welcome you.”

Luckily there were no delays this time around. Several guards offered to lead us towards a place for wyverns and then to the castle. It is very thoughtful of them to provide a place like that. I’m touched. Tiremia, your first impression is very good, you should be proud.

The castle did not disappoint either. It towered over the city, its walls white and the grandeur left you with your mouths open. Comparing it to Kapitalia’s castle it was similar in size, but the impression you are left with looking at them is completely different.

“Greetings dear friends. I welcome you to Tiremia and my home. I hope you enjoy your stay.”

After a short greeting from the King and the Queen we were all assigned rooms in the castle. I should probably mention one thing, right now Fulgy was nowhere to be seen. He was with us right up until we reached the castle and then all of a sudden he separated. I found it a bit odd, but since he left it means that he has a good reason for it. I wasn’t worried about him whatsoever.

My room was right next to Vitou’s which was not that great, but I should have expected it considering the purpose of this trip. Mia had a room of her own across from mine while Taichi and Daisuke shared a room across from Vitou’s.

Now that it was here I couldn’t relax. I would have no free time in the future as I would be obliged to attend countless tea parties and dinners to provide invitations. I for one thought that it would be better if the kingdoms were not on such good terms. My life would be much easier at this moment.

On top of all that I wasn’t making any progress with [Obsidian Curse]. I could swear that I was sensing a ton of annoyance coming from the item whenever I put it on. Not an encouraging feeling if you ask me, but I had no plans on giving up. I will overpower this item and make it my own.

It was late at night and I saw on the map that everyone was in their rooms. I figured I should be safe enough to put the earring and just like before the wails, cries and curses came yelling in my mind. I braced myself and endured it all while paying attention to my health.

It was different this time around. Every so often when I would wear the earring I would scream to drown them out and tell them to shut up. This was more of a kick to my senses than anything else. However, today it felt like every so often some souls would really shut up albeit for a tiniest bits of time. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if I was imagining it or it was really happening. But I decided to tell myself I was making progress towards my goal.

[SKILL: Mental Fortitude LV1 has been acquired.]

The message caught me off guard and I lost focus, which in turn made me unable to control myself and the sudden rush of screaming voices made me pass out.

***ARCHDUKE’S POV***

This place hasn’t changed at all since the last time I was here. The people are still as foolish as ever, never concerned about any of the real problems, only enjoying themselves. This place always makes me wonder just how they were able to last this long in the first place.

I’ll go find Nao-chan, she tends to be interesting. Let’s see if I can get her to cause trouble while she is here. Her title alone will be enough, but it will be better if she really decides to take action. But lately I couldn’t help but notice her being distracted. She keeps messing with something sinister as the aura of death is being wild lately around her. I guess she came across something from Thanatos’ era of rule.

It didn’t take long to find her room. I bet she would yell at me, so I will just barge in. Her reactions are really cute, to a point where I want to pamper her like a child. I pushed the door open and found her passed out. Bleh, boring. I looked at her status to see if she got stronger and upon seeing it I immediately ran to her and shook her awake.
