CHAPTER 223: SIGHTSEEING
“Little Lady, please don’t bother our guests.”
“Princess, don’t run away like that.”
Two maids immediately went over to the girl’s side and began apologizing to me. Four others that arrived were guards that were alarmed by the noise, but quickly left seeing I was only wearing my pajamas.
Soon the maid dragged the princess away and I was left alone without getting an answer out of her. I peeked outside the window and saw that the sun had just risen. Feeling like I would not be able to sleep anymore I dressed up and went towards the dining hall.
When I walked in I was surprised to see it empty. I didn’t expect many people inside, but I thought that at least one or two would be awake. Oddly enough, even the staff wasn’t here nor anywhere in the kitchen. Did I come here too early? I mean the princess was already awake, so it should not be the case.
I checked the map and saw that everyone was in their respective rooms. Heaving a sigh I decided to take a stroll through the town. I will probably find a good place to grab a bite.
I left a message with a guard who looked surprised to see I was already awake, and left the castle. The atmosphere in the city was different from the castle. Everybody was already busy with work and hurrying around. I asked some citizens to show me a good place to eat and after finishing breakfast I went to deal with some important things.
Since I was in another country I will definitely need to obtain the specialties that are not easily found in Elicia. And the most important thing was to stock up on sugar, lots and lots of it. That is why the first place I decided to visit was the farmer’s market.
“Old man, how much are these peaches?”
“Are those really apricots?”
“Grandpa, are you selling all that spinach?”
“I’ll take all the cheese that you are selling.”
I have really gone on a shopping spree. In the first place I didn’t plan on getting so many things, but when I saw the prices I simply had to. I didn’t even bother bargaining. For example, a bag of plums, roughly 3kg cost me 30Lyr. I would have paid at least 200Lyr in Elicia.
And since I didn’t bargain for the price everyone was more than happy to sell and told me about other things that I might be interested in, mainly the fish market. I found that extremely informative because fish was not a common dish in Elicia. There were some ‘fishing’ villages and towns, but fish trade was not developed. If you wanted to eat fish, most of the time you would have to go catch it yourself. But what I wanted was saltwater fish. I wanted to make sashimi and sushi.
The fish market opens at noon every day and the way it works is similar to an auction. The targeted audience and traders and dining places, but anyone that has money can join.
“Good day, I would like to enter the fish market.”
There was still some time before noon, but I decided to arrive early. I knew that I had to register if I wanted to participate.
“Young miss this is not a place for children. People are here to buy fish. I cannot let you in if you are only going to observe.”
That is not nice, I am an adult.
“In that case, you don’t have to worry since I am already 18 years old. And I can assure you that my paying power is higher than half the people in this place. Now can I please get my participation badge or whatever it is called?”
I also passed him my adventurer card that had more than enough credibility to let me in. I saw the man turn pale as soon as he saw it. He immediately gave me the number plate while apologizing profusely. I took it along with my guild card and made my way towards the docks where the auction would be held.
It seems that I would finally have a decent supply of fish for personal use. If they are selling other types of seafood I will make sure to get that as well. I can’t wait; I will definitely get my hands on everything that I can.
***VITOU’S POV***
I simply adore this place, there is no need to start anything before late morning. No early practice, no paperwork. I can actually sleep in and relax. It is amazing. Only when I heard the clock tower strike 10 o’clock did I decide to get up. There was no point getting up earlier because nobody would be awake.
At the dining room the King and Crown Prince were already dining. I greeted them and was chatting with them as I ate.
“Vitou, do tell me how you decided to marry Duchess Maeda. I was certain you would take my lovely daughter for your wife.”
“It was arranged to strengthen the bonds between Archduke Tenryuu and us. She is his sister, but I must say I was smitten long before I learned about her relation to him. She is quite something, you will be able to see it for yourself. Especially if you can get her to drink a cup or two.”
“Haha, I will look forward to that. Speaking of which, where is she? Is she still asleep?”
I had a bad feeling all of a sudden. If there is one thing that I know is that she will never oversleep. Even on the way here, she was always the first one to get up and prepare breakfast. If she got up and found nobody…
“Reporting to His Majesty, His Highness; this one had been left with the message: Lady Maeda has left the castle and gone into town. She reported that she will return by sundown.”
I knew it! I knew that she wouldn’t stay put. I gritted my teeth and excused myself. I called Nakamura and Ishikawa and then stormed out of the castle to go and look for her.
