CHAPTER 245: PAIN
I have long stopped counting the time in this place without light. I went to sleep and woke up not knowing if I slept for a few minutes or a few days. I felt neither hunger nor thirst. I was never drowsy nor was I well rested. I could not see, hear, smell or feel anything. The only thing surrounding me was darkness. Darkness and hatred.
I didn’t know when it started, but at some point I felt like someone was staring at me, watching me with hatred and maliciousness. As time went by, that feeling intensified until a point where there was nothing but hatred around me.
“If you are so brave to imprison me and hate me like this, why don’t you show your faces? The only thing you can do is hide.”
…
“A bunch of cowards, hiding in the dark, not daring to face me. I bet you use this darkness to hide the ugliness of your faces.”
…
“In the end, the only thing you can do here is hide. You are just prisoners like me. You hate me because I didn’t have to endure this darkness for as long as you did.”
I called out to those hidden, but I never got a response. I even wondered if there really was anyone in this place. Well, since they aren’t willing to show themselves, I can only free myself using my own power.
However, the moment I started gathering my mana, a sharp pain going across the left side of my face made me scream out. I was panting, trying hard to keep myself awake and not pass out. Just now, I couldn’t sense anything approaching me and yet I was wounded unexpectedly.
But there was one thing I knew for sure, these things definitely didn’t want me to use magic. Since that is the case, it is only natural I do exactly that. I planned on gathering enough mana to break this weird prison, but once again I was attacked in the main place, this time completely losing consciousness.
***VITOU’S POV***
I stared at Naoko standing inside the barrier. Once again blood spurted from her scar, dyeing her face crimson and hiding her beauty. I was really worried about her, but there is no way for me to approach her.
“Not good! Daphira, go and call him here. I don’t care what you do, just get him here. This is after all his fault and he should be the one to clean up the mess. If he dares to delay, tell him he can kiss goodbye to the deal he has with me.”
“Yes, Young Master!”
I saw the butterfly disappear and the Archduke frowning deeply. I was worried beyond all measure because this was the first time I saw him show such a solemn expression. The situation should be worse than I thought at first. I don’t know who he wanted to bring here, but that person shouldn’t be by any means simple.
“Archduke, what is going on? Why is she bleeding? Why can’t we see anything at all.”
“Don’t bother me, if I lose focus all of you will be dead. That would make her sad once she wakes up. I advise you all to go back and stay away from this room.”
Wait, this barrier, now that I look at it, it is not preventing us from reaching Naoko. If I am correct this should be trapping her inside. I tried to send everyone away, but in the end all I was able to do was make Daisuke and Taichi move a few steps away and stand near the door. The dragon refused to move an inch, just staring at Naoko without blinking.
I also refused to move. The woman there is my fiancée and I have no plans on leaving now that she is in danger. But once this is over, I will still demand an explanation. If there is none I will make sure this kingdom changes its name.
But right now, I can’t do anything. I could only do what the Archduke said earlier and pray.
***NAOKO’S POV***
When I regained my senses, the pain I was feeling was still present. In fact, right now I felt like someone was whipping me, not bothering to give me any room to breathe.
I couldn’t take it anymore. How dare they do this to me? Once I am out of here, everyone will know what it means to anger me. They want to send me to death? Let’s see if I will allow it first.
I kept on gathering mana while trying my best to ignore the attacks coming my way. I wanted to cast a light barrier around me, but I couldn’t change the properties of mana. I couldn’t utilize any of my magic. I became worried. If I don’t do something soon, I won’t be able to escape this place or defend against these attacks.
Feeling myself growing weak, I did the only thing I could think of. I released all of my mana alongside my deathly aura that I possessed. If I can’t escape, at the very least I hope they will stay away long enough for me to recover at least a bit. The last thing I remember is feeling someone dragging me and pulling me into his arms.
***VITOU’S POV***
“Nao-chan!”
I saw blood coming out from countless cuts all over her body. The bloody mist around her soon turned black and I could no longer see her inside the barrier.
“Everyone, get out! If this magic escapes the barrier, nothing will be able to save you.”
Despite his warning, I took a step forward and wanted to come closer to help her. However, before I could do anything I saw a man rush past me and directly enter the barrier. Not even two minutes later, the mist cleared out and I saw a man, the most handsome man I have ever come across, holding Naoko in his arms as if she was the greatest treasure.
