CHAPTER 291: THE IMPOSSIBLE FEAT
“You said, the Black King, the Undying Necromancer, the most evil person in the world, just came to you for a cup of tea? And you let him in?!”
“Technically, he let himself in. I just made sure that he got out. Well kinda.”
“And you, you two have hid the fact he is your brother? I should imprison both of you for withholding that information. Do you have any idea how important that is? Any detail about him is crucial and needs to be shared.”
“Technically, he is expelled so he isn’t our family. Not anymore.”
Right now Vitou, the Archduke and I are standing inside a soundproofing barrier and I was trying to calm down one overly angry prince. As for how we got here….
When the dust settled a person walked out from the ruins, but it wasn’t the Black King; it was the Archduke whom I summoned at that time. Seeing that he was the only one here, I dismissed my underlings that rushed here and began saying what happened.
When I finished talking, Vitou came rushing, alongside several dozen royal guards, and I had to go through a million questions that he had for me. I didn’t lie and told him that the Black King decided to pay a visit, but I didn’t bother staying around and escaped immediately. I didn’t let him have a chance of trying to do anything.
Vitou went to search the ruins of the building and in the meantime, I kept talking to the Archduke. He was frowning, but there was no much surprise about it.
“What do you think he is planning? First he walked in and asked for tea, and afterwards he tried to solicit me into joining him. I really don’t know why such actions?”
“Honestly, I don’t know either. I hate to admit it, but his thoughts are the most hidden. I can only blame myself for being the youngest one up until now.”
Although we weren’t mentioning the Black King by name, nor did we say anything that I told Vitou that happened, he overheard us and connected the dots, which in turn made him really mad almost sending a punch at both of us. And that is how we ended up where we are now.
“Vitou, you can’t blame us. Do you think any of us would be able to walk outside if rumors spread about our relationship with the Black King? Do you think you would be able to stand next to us? No. We would most likely be sentenced to death and burnt on a stake to appease the crowds.”
I saw a flash of horror run through his eyes as he finally calmed down a bit. I really felt bad for him, because I knew why he was terrified.
“Fine, I won’t say a word. And I thought I had complicated family relationships. You two are on a whole different plane when it comes to this. I do not envy you.”
That is an understatement. But now that he knows this, maybe… I looked at the Archduke, but before I could ask anything, he already took the lead in speaking up.
“Well, in that case you should probably know that the two Black Dukes are also part of our family. And just like the Black King, they were expelled when they decided to choose the Black King instead of Thanatos. In the future, you can reveal that you know this truth if you ever need to buy yourself a few seconds of time to counterattack or escape. They should be affected for a bit, since this is not something easily spread.”
The calm that he was able to regain was shattered once again and he blew up once again lashing out at us.
“The heck! How much more are the two of you keeping from me? Are you going to tell me that you have a cousin that manages the dungeon and an aunt that is a Demon Queen?”
Hmm, now that he says it, I could drop another bomb on him.
“Not really, but being dungeon masters kinda runs in the family. Don’t be surprised when you find out. The dungeon in Labyrinth Town should belong to one of the three brothers. I don’t know about the other older dungeons.”
The ban I imposed on the Heroes will eventually disappear and at that time, Vitou will learn about my additional identity. But by then, it will be too late.
“This is impossible! How am I supposed to deal with Black Hand? If those there are anything like you two, our fight against them is hopeless.”
“Vitou, don’t be depressed. Actually, there are some benefits that they are no longer our siblings. Just remember who our father is. We have his protection and they don’t. As long as we are strong enough, we can take them on.”
This is what I am relying on. There is no way any power of his can overturn the protection of Thanatos-sama. As long as I am the Daughter of Death, there is no way for Death to claim me. He dotes on me way too much to let me disappear.
“I’ll trust you this time. Go get ready. We’re leaving tomorrow.”
I watched as Vitou brought back the guards to the castle and left me along with the Archduke in the middle of ruins.
“It seems that I called you here for nothing. I hope you weren’t in the middle of something.”
“Well, my sister called, I had to rush over as soon as possible. Don’t worry about it, it wasn’t for nothing. At the very least, we know that he is willing to move for you. That is something very important to know and we can make use of it.”
He put his hand on my head and for the first time I felt a sense of relaxation that I haven’t had in a very long time. Not since that tragic day I lost my family.
