Death’s Daughter Chapter 292

I have lived alone for a very long time now. There weren’t many people that stayed near me during those years. In fact, it was only Hii-chan that would be around from time to time, but we never grew that close to each other to say that we were inseparable. I always felt a certain coldness and distance towards him.

But right at this moment, I felt the same kind of feeling coming from the Archduke, as I did from my elder sisters back home. The kind of spoiling and indulgence with tons of affection and no hidden meanings behind it.

I knew at that moment that I had made up my mind about how I should be treating this person and just exactly what to feel. The original infatuation over his drop dead gorgeous looks faded away and as I interacted more with him, my anger over his betrayal of me had gone away and there was even a sense of trust when I was around him. I knew that I would never be in danger whenever I am around him.

“Since you said that it was not in vain, I will keep on bothering big brother in the future as well.”

This was the first time that I addressed the Archduke as my “big brother” with sincerity. Not to mock him, not in an act or as a sarcastic remark. I called him like that to acknowledge his identity alongside mine.

In the past, I have said that Thanatos-sama was my father, but deep down I didn’t accept it fully. I didn’t want to admit that I had a new family. I didn’t want to accept that my existence on Earth has been over and that this was my new home. The big part of it was because all my new family members were weird and I was kind of crushing on all of them, but now it is different. I am ready to accept them all and to be weird alongside them too.

“Good, you can do that. But right now, I need to get you somewhere safe.”

He took my hand then we found ourselves inside an ice valley. I wanted to know what he was doing, but before I could do that, I felt my power surge and escape my control.

I was confused with the sudden change happening to me. I couldn’t figure out what was going on and why all of this was occurring out of the blue.  But I was sure that the Archduke knew about it and that is why he brought me here.

I could feel the aura around me grow extremely heavy, so much that cracks were being formed in the ice all around me from the mere pressure that this new power surging in me was creating. I was really confused over such changes, because this wasn’t the first time I have seen someone gain a divinity seed. However, there was no such great change in the surroundings on the account of the seed being created.

When the pressure around me grew too heavy, I fell on the ground and I was tortured by pain which seemed to be breaking every bone in my body and rupturing all my organs, turning me into mush. At the same time, a cold sensation started spreading, making me have a sense of relief among all the agony.

“Hang on Nao-chan, this should be over soon. Just hold on.”

His voice was distant, but it gave me a push to bear through it. I knew there was only gritting my teeth and enduring until the very end, so that is exactly what I did. Thankfully, the freezing temperature really helped a lot with enduring this pain.

There was a ton of information being stuffed into my head, but I couldn’t make heads or tails out of it. I only knew that the painful sensation had stopped.

“What the heck was all that?”

“Congratulations little sister, you are finally part of the truly strong in this world. Tell me, what attribute did you get?”

I looked at the Archduke who finally reappeared in front of me. He was holding a wrapped box in his hands. Obviously he was prepared long ago for this.

“It said something about it. I think it is called Life Ice. I have no idea what it means or does.”

I gave him a meaningful look and waited to get my explanation as to why all this happened to me. He should have gone through the same ordeal since he is aware of it.

“You finally accepted Thanatos as your real family. This is the step we need to take to unlock our divinity seed. If you work hard enough, you will be able to become a true god and leave Doren at that time.”

Only that? It seems too easy. What about Byakko? Why wasn’t he able to get his divinity seed before he met me? And what is Life Ice? I had so many questions.

“What else?”

“Hmm, let’s see… Unique attribute is what you need to practice in order to increase the power of your divinity seed. It also shows which position you can possess as a god once you reach that point. Things with Life in it are really precious and have great strength. You’re really lucky, I didn’t get it at that time.”

“What about admin rank?”

“You should probably check your status, there will be a huge surprise for you once you take a look. Plus it would be easier to see if for yourself then to make me explain things one by one to you.”

I opened my status like he said and I was stunned because the difference in number is simply too great. I might have underestimated just how much of a difference a divinity seed makes.
