CHAPTER 42 – SETTING OFF

The thing I needed to do today was to visit the blacksmith and a tailor. I first went to see the blacksmith. The one I always went with was Kort. Over the past two months, I became familiar with him and I would always sell scrap metal I got from goblins or other monsters to him. He was the one most willing to buy them. After some time, he became my personal blacksmith and I would leave all my equipment maintenance to him.

“Well, if it isn’t our town’s celebrity. What brings you here this time? Don’t tell me you have more things to sell. I don’t remember hearing you taking another quest that needed you to kill monsters.”

I took out Amethyst and placed it on the counter. I did ask him about Rainbow Sword, but he didn’t know about it. I never showed him this sword, but now I had to. I was still reluctant, since this was a magical item, however I really needed another sword.

“Do you have a sword that will be on par with this one? The length and weight need to be somewhat similar.”

Kort-san took the sword and examined it. I had no idea what he was seeing, but for an item having a legendary rank his expression looked rather dull. Well it was sealed at the moment, so no wonder he wasn’t exclaiming in awe.

“This is a good sword but sadly it is only a replica. It is sharp and overall extremely well done, but it lacks majestic aura that the original has. I can show several swords that you might like but all of them are expensive.”

“A replica? A replica of what?”

If this was a replica it means that someone has an unsealed sword. I was sure this was
the real deal thanks to [Heaven’s Eye], now do tell who has another sword.

“King Erik of Elicia and King Artim of Villikis each have one of the pair swords. Sword of Light and Sword of Fire, both are legendary items passed from ancient times. There are many replicas but almost none of the quality you have, luck must be on your side to come across it.”

I took back my sword and looked at the ones Kort presented me but none of them felt, right compared to Amethyst. In the end I bought two of them and decided to use them instead of Amethyst. I decided to practice with two swords whenever I had a chance during this trip. Also, I need to work on casting magic faster without having a free hand.

Afterwards, I visited a tailor and bought a few sets of clothes that look somewhat nice. I had no idea what the fashion was in the capital but I figured having new clothes was better than worn out robe I wore almost every day.

Upon finishing everything I needed I decided to relax and take the rest of the day off. I thought about going to the forest and take a nap, but I could hear thunder in the distance so I didn’t want to risk getting caught by a storm. Instead I just slept all day in my room.

Finally the day arrived and I was waiting in front of the town gate. This was the place we were supposed to meet, but Earl Orzak was nowhere to be seen. Odi-san and Volt-san were both here even before sunrise with some basic supplies, I told them not to worry about the food. I didn’t want them to carry around stuff that was unnecessary to slow us down

“Good morning Odi-san, Volt-san, thank you for accepting my request on such short
notice.”

“How could we decline a request coming from the Empress? Besides Nino-san told us he will promote us once we are back, so this is a double win for us.”

“Naoko-chan let’s hope there is some action on the way there, I don’t want things to be too boring.”

I don’t want any action. Hopefully this will be extremely uneventful journey to a point we all die from boredom. Finally the Earl arrived and immediately called out to me. He didn’t have extra carriage, just a single one where he would be travelling while keeping an eye on the Duke.

“Naoko, good, you’re already here. Go and stuff everything in your inventory. Also hand over the bears to me. I don’t suppose you want them to stay outside and run alongside us, that is simply too cruel. I want to pet them a lot. There are the horses I prepared for the three of you.”

That person, he knew I had inventory and immediately decided to use me as a mule. And I couldn’t even do anything while he took the two bear cubs away from me. He then entered the carriage and didn’t peek out anymore.

I looked over to where the horses were. Two personal guards were already sitting atop and Volt-san and Odi-san were climbing while I just stood there staring at the black horse like an idiot. How the heck am I supposed to climb this giant horse?

“Naoko-chan what’s wrong? Let’s go!”

“Naoko-chan could it be, you’ve never ridden a horse before?”

I blushed in embarrassment as I answered. An average high school student would not know how to ride a horse. Laughing loudly, the two of them helped me up and showed me the basics and soon I got the hang of it. We were finally starting the journey towards the royal capital Kapitalia.

***NINO’S POV***

“Nino, did Naoko-sama already leave?”
“Oh Millie-chan, you’re here. Yeah, she left this morning. Let’s hope things will calm down a bit now. I think we had enough excitement to last us a decade.”

“Yes… although it was fun seeing people acting like that. And the way Naoko-sama acts is amusing as well. She really knows how to deal with different situations.”

“She’s unique for sure. You really took a liking to her, didn’t you Millie?”

I have known Millie for quite some time now, and she doesn’t really get attached to many people, not the way she is to Naoko-san. It really makes me wonder why.

“She is special, and yes, I do like her. She makes me feel relaxed also spirits adore her as well. I must say I am jealous.”

I better keep an eye on her in the future as well. Who knows she might be able to become the strongest creature in Doren and become the thirteenth god.
