CHAPTER 45 – DON’T MESS WITH ME
“Naoko-chan what exactly happened here? Are you alright?”
“I’ll be fine. This person was a dwalf and he was the one observing us all this time. He planned on killing the entire party and decided to start with me while I was practicing, but you see the result of that plan. His skills were nasty though. If you tried to kill him you would die as well.”
I could hear all three of them gulping really loudly as I gave that explanation. I collected the corpse which was mostly burned down and went towards the campsite. I didn’t forget to thank the elementals for their help before letting them go.
Everyone was on alert when we got back. Nobody was sleeping. Honestly, it would be weirder if someone was able to sleep with all that screaming that had been going on.
“No need to panic, the attacker has died. It appears that it was a single person acting alone.”
“That’s not important, did you have to torture him that much? Even I got goose bumps and I’ve seen some very disturbing stuff in my life. No matter who your opponent was, couldn’t you have killed him easily?”
“The situation got sticky.”
I explained everything that happened and his skills. It really was a nasty skill to have.
Once they realized that, I was no longer getting weird looks. The Earl wanted to examine the body to see if it belonged to any criminal organizations but it was too damaged to confirm and his belongings didn’t give much information.
When everyone calmed down from all the fuss, it was decided to start the journey early today, and following a light breakfast we set off. I used the little time alone I had to check on the titles I earned.
[Loved by Spirits] – the spirits have taken a special liking to you and are willing to help you without asking for price in return
[Nerves of Steel] – enduring great pain has strengthened your mind making you strong
against mental attacks.
[Calamity of Crown Colosseum] – A person made legend in duels for her great strength
and peerless skills. Title represents the power shown by defeating countless players in a different world. Because of its immense power it had been sealed until the owner became strong enough to bear it. *When in battle raises base stats*
Aaah… Thanatos-sama how could you do this to me?! You did it on purpose, didn’t you? I hate this nickname, it’s extremely embarrassing! I don’t care that the effect is awesome and overpowered, but at least name it something normal like Battle Crazy or Berserk. In fact, why do you even know about this? Did you read my memories when you gave me that sealed title? You demon, no devil!!
While I was cursing Thanatos-sama the sun had risen. I was very annoyed with his sense of humor when all of a sudden several light arrows fell down upon us. They were aimed at the three of us riding on the horses. Extremely pissed I launched a huge mana wave disrupting the arrows which shattered upon impact. Ooh, so that is how you use [Disrupt], I can finally use it normally.
Stupid sniper, just because you have a large range it doesn’t mean you are safe. I already know you are over 300 meters away, considering I was not sensing your presence. Come on, just dare shoot again. Just as I thought that three more arrows came our way.
“Volt-san, Odi-san protect the Earl.”
I left them and sprinted towards the direction where the arrows came from. As soon as I catch a whiff of you, you are dead. And sure enough I sensed him trying to run away. Sadly for him, I was faster. With my high agility and space magic, I easily intercepted him. He was holding a crystal longbow that had no bowstring, nor did he carry a quiver. If I am correct, he should have taken those shots at a distance of roughly 400-500 meters. I think he was able to do that thanks to the bow. I don’t see it otherwise.
I used [Blink] to get directly behind him and knocked him out with the sword. I took away his weapon and put it in my inventory. It will definitely be useful to me one of these days. Picking him up, I walked back to our party. He was heavier than he looked, also I was more exhausted than I thought I would be.
“I’m back, brought the sniper back alive. He might not wake up soon though. I think I hit
him really hard.”
“That’s amazing. Naoko-chan you are revered as a great magician, but your physical strength is no joke either. Volt told me about his fight with you, but I didn’t believe him. You’re one crazy scary woman.”
I ignored Odi-san’s last comment, and under Earl’s order began searching for marking of Black Hand, but he didn’t have any. It seems interrogating him was the only option to learn about who he was working for. After stripping him of all his possessions he was thrown inside a prison pen bound and with his lips sealed.
Luckily he had woken up by lunch break time, but as expected he didn’t speak a word. We asked him about the identity and reason for attacking but he didn’t budge. In fact, instead of despair he seemed more like waiting for something.
I was not the only one that was feeling nervous about his behavior. The following two days we all have been on edge. There were no more attacks on us, but the air seemed eerie.
The worst thing is that we didn’t encounter a single monster at all. Not even a goblin or a wolf. This was highly unusual.
“Naoko-chan according to my plans for today and the next day are the only dangerous days where we might be a target, but I can’t help feeling the urge to speed up. What do you think?”
“I don’t like the atmosphere here. It seems deathly. I want to get out of here as soon as possible, Earl-sama.”
“HA, HA, HA, HA! It’s already too late for you to escape!”
The bow user began laughing frantically. This is the first time I heard him talk, it seems something bad is happening. Why does he say it is too late?
“What do you mean, speak up!”
“The moment Argus and I didn’t report to our friends you have been destined to die. It is the ultimate trap from which you will not be able to escape. Not you, not me, not even her.”
He pointed at the western sky where a giant black cloud was approaching. No, not a cloud as it was moving against the current. I focused my sight and realized what it was: not only the sky, but the ground was filled with monsters all running this way. You’ve got to be kidding me!!!
