CHAPTER 58 – I AM SO ASHAMED

I woke up feeling extremely refreshed and feeling unnaturally light. The large window showed that the sun was already high in the sky. The soft bed really pulled you in and made you want to sleep just a bit more. There was only one slight problem in this whole picture; I had no idea whose bedroom was this.

Looking around, there was nobody there and I was fully clothed, although I was not in the dress that I borrowed from Inoue-san, but rather in everyday shirt and trousers. Changing into fresh clothes I left the bedroom, however I didn’t find anyone at all. The house was huge, to a point calling it a mansion would be more appropriate. I explored every nook and cranny of this huge mansion. I was completely certain I was alone. Checking my status, nothing much was different. Even the amount of money wasn’t that much different from yesterday. I did have a bunch of accessories and jewels on me I didn’t have before. Just what happened that made me end up in this place?

For now I left the mansion, locked the door with the key that was in the lock and put it underneath the doormat. I needed to find someone who was with me so I can find out everything drunk Nao did. The best thing would be to find Hii-chan or someone from Cerberos party, so with that in mind, I first went to visit the guild hoping I would find Colt-san there.

When I got there, it was as rowdy as usual, but unlike before there was no fighting or pushing around. Since I needed to check if Nord-san or Colt-san were here I tapped the person in front of me to ask him, but as soon as he turned around he became startled and immediately bowed deeply towards me.

“I am most terribly sorry for realizing you have arrived Honorable Boss, please forgive me.”

Following his not so quiet apology, around a fifth of the present adventurers all gathered in front of me and bowed respectfully. What is going on here? According to this reaction, it doesn’t look like drunk Nao was laying low. Just what did I do to make them respect me to such a degree? And what is with that ‘Honorable Boss’ title? I need an explanation and soon.

“Umm… did any one of you see Nord-san or Colt-san here?”

After a quick discussion they replied.

“Negative, after leaving with them yesterday morning nobody had seen them at the guild. Should we go out and look for them in your stead Honorable Boss?”

“No, don’t do that. You said yesterday morning, so that makes today the day before the royal tournament, right?”

“That is correct, Honorable Boss.”

Oh dear, this means that I lost an entire day somehow. I need to reach the castle soon.

Telling the gathered adventurers I have nothing more to ask, I left the guild. Just what did I do to make them all act like this. I feel like I became a boss of some criminal organization and they became my subordinates.

Going through the castle gates, I was called Viscountess on several occasions and the guards were all treating me better, compared to the time before the trial. So the word about me becoming nobility has already spread. Well, at least it did inside the castle. I retraced my steps from two days ago to reach Inoue-san’s room and knocked on the door.

“Inoue-san, it’s Maeda Naoko, are you in?”

However, there was no answer, so I went up to one of the guards stationed nearby about other heroes’ room, but I was notified that they were all having practice fights in preparation for the tournament and should come back later on. I wanted to go, but unfortunately that area was restricted to me. Feeling helpless, I returned to my room. Much to my surprise Earl Orzak was inside looking rather angry.

“Naoko-chan, you sure have guts challenging me like that. I haven’t been this offended in a long time. I knew you held the title of the Queen, but I never thought you would be able to drink that much. I lost face in front of so many people. I never thought you’d beat me even after fighting so many people before me.”

AAAARGH! JUST WHAT DID I DO? How did I end up fighting the Earl? If we were drinking, why was he at the guild in the first place? I can’t see that place being the location where nobles go for a drink.

“I am terribly sorry if I have caused you trouble. Please forgive me.”

“Tsk, thanks to you, we need to stay until the end of the tournament because you made me apply as well all the heroes, several high nobles and bunch of high grade adventurers. I’m truly amazed how you were able to piss off so many people with a single sentence. Thanks to you, this just might become the largest tournament in the past hundred years that the kingdom didn’t plan out in advance.”

Oh my god, how could I do something so reckless as anger a bunch of strong people all at once? Does the drunk me know no restrain? I should really stop all alcohol intake in the future.

“Say umm… aside from you, who were other nobles present at the guild. I am not entirely certain.”

“You…how can you act like this? Aside from me, the newly appointed Duke Edward, Earl Worshire, Count Mirez and even the Crown Prince was there who came to meet with his younger half-brother. Well, since all of them lost to you I didn’t lose too much face. Anyways, I came to tell you I have no plans on holding back at the arena. I will not lose again to you or to anyone else for the matter of fact.”

I am so ashamed. I probably insulted the Crown Prince and half the kingdom in the past two days. I seriously need to talk to anyone that can explain everything that happened ever since I started drinking with Nord-san. I waited an hour or so in my room before heading towards Inoue-san’s room once again. This time she opened the door as soon as I knocked.

“Maeda-san what brings you here? Why aren’t you at your new mansion? Wait a second, don’t tell me…”

“Please, PLEASE, for heaven’s sake, tell me what happened in the past two days. I beg you.”

“I knew it! Come inside, Hii-kun will come by later so I’ll start explaining. But you sure are different when you are drunk. Also your boyfriend is super cool and handsome, why didn’t you say you had one before? It’s no wonder you didn’t aim for Hiiro. Well, this is how it started…”

It seems I am now a house owner, insulted royalty and got a boyfriend while I was drunk. I hugged one of the pillows as I listened to the story.
