We’d prepared all sorts of warehouses, from makeshift sheds to proper roofed buildings, and separated them from the rest with ditches and fences to keep people from wandering in.

It was the kind of setup you’d expect to get sealed shut if things ever went sideways.

We weren’t handling cash, but we were dealing with precious-metal goods big enough to need a wagon to move. Management was absolutely essential.

We’d also placed Ria’s quarters right in the middle of the warehouse district. That was partly for safety—but also to ensure that both the valuables and Ria, the real treasure, were under Elna’s direct protection.
