Even a dulled training sword hurt when it struck.

“Don’t pull back, Noah! Step in and strike!”

A blow slammed into his shield, sending a jolt up his arm and locking his joints. The shock rippled through his body, freezing him in place. The thought of counterattacking with the sword in his right hand vanished. All he could do was push his shield forward in defense.

“Tsk. Do you even understand what I’m saying?!”

Another strike crashed down from above, knocking his shield aside and exposing his face to the watching crowd.

He was a young knight with boyish features, and a pale skin one wouldn’t expect from someone whose job involved fighting.
