“What do you want from me?” Hilda asked.
“Stop spreading wild rumors.”
Irritated by his arrogant tone, Hilda glared back at the boy sharply. She had never been fond of children, and her natural response was to keep them at arm’s length.
The boy shrank back a little at her intense gaze, but he didn’t back down.
“A-Anyway, just stop it.”
“And why should I listen to some brat like you?”
“It’s causing problems!”
“How so?”
“…”
“What’s wrong? You came picking a fight, and now you’re speechless?”
Maybe I’m overdoing it against a kid.
She knew she was being provocative, and the boy’s clenched fists showed his frustration. It felt a little mean-spirited, but ultimately, it wasn’t her problem.
“If you’ve got nothing else, scram. I don’t have time for this.”
“Negative. We were just idling.”
“What?!”
