Lisa believed she had changed. Three years ago, she wouldn’t have been able to think this way.

“You’re right. It must be my age,” Hannibal said with a look of resignation. “I made a mistake. You’re not like Liza.”

“No.”

“I still think it was wrong for Liza to make a Demon Pact,” he said suddenly, and Lisa froze. “It was a mistake. She should have run for her life. I understand she wanted to protect Luke, but she should have run without a second thought. Liza made the wrong choice.”

“Ah, but I—”

“However, your birth… was the right thing. I can say that without a doubt.”

Lisa froze again.

Hannibal smirked. His face no longer seemed trapped by the illusions of the past. He had shaken them off far too easily.
