“I was just about to get up, dumbass.”

The sword spikes on his back weighed like boulders. Just standing up demanded a lot of effort. Luke pressed his hands to the ground, stretched his arms, planted one knee, raised his hips—executing each movement one by one, deliberately and slowly, until he finally stood.

Once upright, the weight that had been pressing on his back shifted to both legs. His knees nearly buckled under it, but he drove his katana into the ground in reverse to support his upper body. With three points of contact, he managed to hold himself steady and sluggishly raised his head.

Standing before him was a towering warrior clad in black armor. Horatio Disraeli was staring straight at him.
