On the outer wall of the cell, a sconce held a candle with a faint, flickering flame.

There were no windows in the dungeon. Sunlight didn’t reach them, nor did the wind. A cold, biting chill lingered in the air. Even the stone floor beneath them sapped their body heat, so the three of them had to sit in a circle, huddled together, sharing warmth to get by.

“It’s cold. Really cold,” muttered the most visually striking of the three. She had short, silvery hair and dark brown skin. Though small in stature, her arms and legs—visible beneath her travel clothes—were lean and muscular. “It’s supposed to be summer, right? Just because this is a dungeon doesn’t mean it has to be freezing.”
