Summer’s end was just around the corner, but the midday sun still blazed down in all its brilliance.
Vegetation across the vast, open plain basked in the warmth of the sun, while a free-flowing breeze carried the heat away. The sky stretched endlessly overhead, and through the middle of the field ran a single road, where a covered wagon trundled along at a leisurely pace.
On the wagon seat, red hair whipped in the wind like dancing flame.
“The wind feels great,” Cecily murmured contentedly, narrowing her equally red eyes into a smile.
She wore a light outfit—just a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a skirt. Her left hand, holding down her wind-blown hair, wore a silver ring on the ring finger that glinted in the sunlight.
“It really is a lovely breeze,” agreed Lisa, who was holding the reins up on the driver’s seat.
