A few mornings later, at another stop.

“How are things progressing?” Lisa asked.

Cecily, though embarrassed, answered honestly, “On the first night, we held hands while we slept.”

“I see. And?”

Luke had stepped away to pay for their lodgings, so Lisa took her chance.

“Second night, he let me use his arm as a pillow.”

“Third night, he hugged me really tight.”
